I bought this... only going to get the sound in this video using emg pickups... seymour duncans give you only van halen hot for teacher sound. If you have to be quiet than I would get this, otherwise I would pass on this product, it sounds like a very cheap amp.
@googxmsr I used to say...."there is no bad and good gear...there are only badly selected sets". Maybe You should Try some other guitar or monitor system. And...I don't agree as for the pickups...It's all about what You can achieve by matching right wood, right construction, right pick, right articulation, right amp, and right pickup...
@kHeartgrand Honestly You can get a crunch overdrive but vintage sounds are based on other frequency response so for me there is nothing that much "good for all" and best for the classic rock stuff is AC30 (my private taste) cause it has lots of warm, low midrange .
Wonder if you could use this for an overdrive pedal, actually sounds pretty cool I heard it in a mix and thought it was a nice amp mic'd up. Sounds like there's actually space like it's not direct. How'd they do that? lol
my friend had one for his bass and i was amazed by the sound of it,i now bought one for my guitar and it keeps amazing me how good and heavy the sound is from this little thing
@pivotgodxd To me, to give you a reference point, this is a heavier, more modern American Rectifier sound. The lead is a more Marshall gain sound, more like the 80's style metal sound. Both good, just depends on what you're looking for.
@TheRane0us if you use two AAA alkaline batteries, you can get around 15 hours out of it. If you use two AAA zinc-carbon batteries you'll get around 5-7 hours of use.
it sounds great and all but really if you want a killer sound and more variety to play different styles get a direct input device and get revalver mk 3 from peavey nothing compares
Respekt za grę :) Czy uzyskam dobry efekt podpinając Ampluga do mojego Les Paula ? Nie posiadam innego modelu gitary , lecz niedługo kupuję nową. Czy mogę prosić o poradę ?
@samumaster You won't get absolutely clean sound out of it. You can only make some kind of bluesy clean by cutting out gain on amplug and pullling down guitars volume.
@samumaster it sounds great and all but really if you want a killer sound and more variety to play different styles get a direct input device and get revalver mk 3 from peavey nothing compares
noob question but how does it sound when you just play through the thing, nothing else? and is this the sound you get when you play it through speakers?
I picked up this VOX metal amplug a few days ago and its awesome!! I playing it using an aux cable connected to my small Marshall MG10 and it sounds amazing!!! This is a very innovative gadget :D
I just got mine and I have a problem with it. When chugging (palm muting) on my drop-c guitar, it farts badly. The lower the note, the worse it gets. It sounds like an amp that's crapping out on the low end. Tried different headphones. Reducing gain helps, but that's not why I bought a metal amp! I found other people online are heaving this same issue (google: vox amplug metal; it farts). Disappointing!
I don't see why people don't use this thing as a distortion unit. It sounds better through headphones (I am listening with 20 dollar headphones) than a recorded mic'ed cab with a good majority of the distortion pedals on the market. Plus, with a Y-connector (stereo mini to dual mono 1/4"), you could drive two amps and record them on two separate tracks panned left/right for a stereo sound. Nothing beats tube amp overdrive, but if you use a pedal for your distortion anyway, why not use this?
So you plugged it directly in and the amplug has a cab simulator built in it right? It sounds really good, but what if you plug it into a cab? They made a cab just for the amplugs too, so it must sound weird.
@ShimmySystem The mini-cab has a built in low-power amp. You could plug this in to an amp, or with a Y-connector two amps, and it would serve as a very good distortion+bi-amp device. It won't drive a speaker by itself, it's more like a preamp, but it works as a distortion pedal (without a FS) and sounds as good as metal distortion pedals that cost hundreds more.
@ShimmySystem Actually, there's some 1x10" "powered monitor" speakers made by fender that really just have 10" musical instrument loudspeakers in them, and since this little guy is made for use with headphones, it can drive a pair of them for a stereo spread, or even drive a roland cube 80 on one side of the stage and a small tube combo on the other, and get a nice stereo texture that no pedal (except a stereo chorus pedal placed after distortion) can give...and it sounds WAY better than pedals.
@ShimmySystem The metalzone is nothing, this baby sounds better than pretty much any pedal that isn't tube driven. My twin tube classic, limited as it may be for gain, sounds better, but it also cost me 200 bucks and I can't Bi-amp off it OR plug headphones in to it. This thing could (as it was here) be used for DI recording as a songwriting tool, and this is coming from a guy who won't even record BASS without a 1x15 cab and a condenser, let alone guitar! I'd use it with computer speakers too.
@punkeratheart I've been going into amp modeling for the computer for about a year now. It's probably the most cheapest and easy route to go. It sounds pretty good too, but nothing will beat tubes/valves, but I think that computer digital amp modeling beats a lot of solid state stuff, mostly the pedals if not the SS amps.
But the VOX amplugs sound really good for solid state equipment, and for such a small size. I pretty much swore off of solid state until I saw these babies.
@punkeratheart I'm probably going to get the Lead or Metal (lead has delay, and is good for more high mid sounding tone) and get that amplug cabinet, then screw a belt clip to it so I can play my guitar anywhere I go.
@ShimmySystem Like being an electric street musician. I saw a guy plug one in to his car stereo and play, the video was in spanish, but I could tell he was just using guitar+amplug+cassette-adapter and car stereo, and it sounded awesome.
@ShimmySystem For anything solid state, Marshall is the wrong way to go. Even the original valvestate amps were way overpriced and sounded nowhere near as good as my BK Butler hybrid. It also has just one 12AX7, but it runs it at full voltage, the first and second gain stages are the tube, and the power amp is pretty accurate and discreet. With a good cab, that amp sounds very close to a tube amp. A VS on the other hand, well, your paying 500 bucks for a name. Vox makes a good hybrid too, cheap.
I have one of these little bastards, and I was really surprised when it sounded this good, I really didn't expect that, I recommend this to anyone without room for a large amp or just need something small to practice with, it's great. Of course it won't sound as good as full size amps, but this thing is smaller than my phone. How the hell did Vox do it?
@gregdafreak Plugs into your guitar. ( battery powered. around 20 hours ). Then you plug you headphones into it. I Also believe it has a input opening on it to plug your mp3 player in.
Put it simple, Get a child mini guitar, This and plug it into your cars cd player and jam inside your car Ha.
That sounds pretty beefy indeed. I do have a question though?? Is this the sound that comes straight from the Vox, nothing added afterwards? Or has your signal here been run through impules such as redwires/recabinet?
@TheCrazyFunnyGuy Those are random riffs. Whatever fingers brings on fretboard...during test. I can sound like something You know but it was not a purpose.
@schecterman123 I'm afraid that's the little problem with amplugs. You can get absolutely clean tone from any one of them. Turning gain to 0 You'll have no output singal. AC30 with low gain setting can sound almost clean
@vavrzyn I am very very interested in getting one of these. In this comment your reply says that you can get absolutely clean tone from any of them. You go on to say that turning the gain down to 0 will give you no output signal. Can you elaborate a little more. Does that mean that if the gain is turned down to 0 there will then be no sound to the headphones? @redilago You should think about all the amplugs as a single channel amps. Those are distortions channels and kind of distortion depends of a kind of amp, wich is simulated. Unfortunetly there is no clean amplug. You can get clean tone in the same way as in real amp. Only by taknig down the gain as low as possible and taking the guitar volume down. Gain = 0 meansno signal.
@vavrzyn Ok, that makes sense, thank you very much. I would love to be able to get the really heavy sounds, the not so heavy sounds as well as a decent clean sound, not completely clean but at least clear would I go with this one or the classic rock in your opinion?

@LesPaulRockerProduct it's a minieffect-amp, you plugged directly to yout guitar, so it's usefull to play everywhere with headphones or to jam with a lil amp atached to you
just directly connect it to guitar like any other amp...the advantage of this is that its portable...also it has a headphone jack to connect headphones for personal listening....like how u connect headphones to amps or processors....
gosh the pinch harmonics make me jizz in my pants! XP could yur guitar make pinch harmonics like tht without this plug? cuz if so im fucked haha when i try to pinch on like the 6th string not a damn thing comes out
Nah, it can't! As you see, there's no speaker on this tiny thing. Even if it has, i think the speaker will be 1inch type, and we can expect a loud sound from it. :)
i just bought the amplug metal and the is amazing! sounds so big and full, coming from a device that fits in ur pocket and weights less then a cellphone.
not really, and the tone falls flat on its face on low gain settings due to the way that its wired; four stage solid state amps... hence a super fat tone which just sounds dull.
Its still possible however. I'd look at an AC30 instead, or buy both and somehow have a pocket switchboard XD.
this is a model of a vox amp - it is designed specifically for headphones (meaning it is equalized to perform best when headphones are plugged into it.). having said that, you can also plug this into ur amp if you have an auxilary jack or computer speakers. I got the AC30 amplug and it is very cool - only feature i don't like is that as you turn the gain down, the volume decreases significantly, so you have to find the right combination to maintain volume while gettting a clean sound.
hellmaelstorm...no, you cannot play with this alone - you need to either A) plug the auxilary cable into ur AMP if it has an auxilary jack...or run the auxilary to computer speakers...however, it performs best when headphones are plugged in.

Nah, it can't! As you see, there's no speaker on this tiny thing. Even if it has, i think the speaker will be 1inch type, and we can expect a loud sound from it. :)
Sorry for being rude...
yobsemag 2 years ago 3
No, you have to plug it into your guitar's output jack first ;)
But seriously, you need a set of heaphones or a cable to connect it to a recording device, stereo, etc.. It does not have built- in speakers.
dudewhosaysarrh 2 years ago
No.. But you can plug it in to headphones or so just like with a MP3 o what ever...

I think that this sound is very good.

I wanna get this, that way I don't always have to move around my amp which is a pain in the ass by the way.

Can someone tell me if these amp plugs have a clean setting?
iscareuiknowit 2 years ago
nope. i have this one and this particular one has no clean. The others do though
jareds270 2 years ago
well do you mean others as in I have to buy others to get clean or the other models have distorted and clean as well?
iscareuiknowit 2 years ago
only the ac30 got clean
tuinstoel77 2 years ago
Check the ac30 for that
arrisfilms 2 years ago
i just bought the amplug metal and the is amazing! sounds so big and full, coming from a device that fits in ur pocket and weights less then a cellphone.
well worth the money
tuinstoel77 2 years ago
that tiny litte plug can make a sound like that? *open mouth*
tuinstoel77 2 years ago
can you get clean settings on this yao?
LTCimbulletproof 2 years ago
not really, and the tone falls flat on its face on low gain settings due to the way that its wired; four stage solid state amps... hence a super fat tone which just sounds dull.
Its still possible however. I'd look at an AC30 instead, or buy both and somehow have a pocket switchboard XD.
tkpenalty 2 years ago
this is a model of a vox amp - it is designed specifically for headphones (meaning it is equalized to perform best when headphones are plugged into it.). having said that, you can also plug this into ur amp if you have an auxilary jack or computer speakers. I got the AC30 amplug and it is very cool - only feature i don't like is that as you turn the gain down, the volume decreases significantly, so you have to find the right combination to maintain volume while gettting a clean sound.

how much does it sell for?
atvrider41790 2 years ago
~40$

i got a question if i brought it to scool with no other amp would this work? idk if im just stupid or if it doesnt
HellMaelstorm 2 years ago
That's kind of the point...
Bertziethegreat 2 years ago
hellmaelstorm...no, you cannot play with this alone - you need to either A) plug the auxilary cable into ur AMP if it has an auxilary jack...or run the auxilary to computer speakers...however, it performs best when headphones are plugged in.
dkrasney 2 years ago
you are asking if you're stupid so my answer is yes
you cant even spell the word "school"
XB0XFR34K 2 years ago
These actually make really good preamps. I use this, connect my amp to it and it sounds awesome.
Dkr84 2 years ago
Wow, you get some nice pinch harmonics out of that thing!
pwoznic 2 years ago
How can THIS sound like THIS!?
Sounds cool.
Vodkypei 2 years ago
