  • Goosebumps! :)

  • I was wondering where was this concert? It just seems really familiar to me. Thanks for any answers.

  • Boy, Michael is spectacular on this song, singing his heart out. What an amazing performance

  • wow...loved the video and love, love hearing Michael. Very good one and thanks again for the older stuff!

  • In the winter of 1995, we had another

lovely granddaughter, while was in Texas,

I found a channel that led me to all the

gospel music I didn't know existed. I purchased VHS tapes everytime I went to

Texas there after. I was fortunate to have

a tape that ws done when Mark, Terry and,

Michael were part of Bill's quartet! It's priceless.I was sorry to see how judgmental Christians could be and how

that is GOD' job , NOT OURS. To Shortgal

100 yes, it is great. Can you find at all?

  • I guarantee Michael was already struggling before it all came out. You know how you can tell. It's in the way he sings his songs. When your struggling with the flesh, yet you're desperately trying to serve God with all your heart, you will sing with your heart.

  • I heard this song in 1974 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles...it was amazing!! Halfway through, the ENTIRE AUDIENCE was standing, SINGING, and PRAISING GOD!!!! The concert ended with "Alleluia", and 5000 people poured out onto the streets of L.A.....still worshipping God........

    ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!

  • Jhn 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. he deafted death and hell and the grave. PRAISE THE LORD .

  • It is amazing the difference between Michael here and the way he is now. You can tell that God has really done something for him. The songs mean so much to him now. Praise God for Victory.

  • I like them both! Stop arguing about these two talented men and enjoy.

  • I agree with tallison1965, you can tell Michael sings from his heart and means EVERY single word of it!!! David Phelps does real good but it seems like he knows he is good but he makes a show out of it, ya know what I mean? thats how I can best describe it!

  • No way have you heard any of the new versions of the song? David Phelps blows anybody outta tha water. Period.

  • I think they are equally talented for sure, I just have a preference for Michael.

  • Michael English is the greatest vocalist ever in gospel music.

  • i love michael on 3:03 through 3:37. that was the best vocal performance i've ever heard

  • If this is the song he performed the night after having had the panic attack, as described by Bill in his Micheal's book, he is not being self-centered nor acting. I've had panic attacks and they're devastating. If anything, he is praising God for giving him the ability to sing before everyone that night. I admire his dedication.

  • I mean, it's a great song and Phelps is a great singer but Michael's delivery on that last verse is something that can't be taught or learned. It's just a natural thing that he has always possessed and it is remarkably moving.

  • Actually if you'll read Michael's book, The Prodigal Comes Home, you'll read that the Gaither's didn't drop him like a hot potato. He launched out on his own as a soloist about the time all of the stuff hit the fan. Gaither hired him to produce the "Testify" album so that he could have some work. The book is really great. Its almost like he is sitting in your living room sharing his story with you. God bless you!

  • BassAce316, you're exactly right. His solo career had already taken off and plans were well underway for Mike to leave the GVB and strike out on his own before the Marabeth mess came out.

dudesouth14, the Gaithers, Mark Lowry and Tonya and Michael Sykes have stood by Mike through all of his troubles.

  • There is a difference between dropping someone and giving someone some space....When English sinned, he was tremendously fortunate to have people like the Gaithers, Mark Lowry, and the Goodmans still supporting him. But these people had the spiritual common sense to not do what too many people want to do...make a bloated, public showing about how "we still love this man and no one should judge him for what happened because he has already dealt with it with God." Is that what you wanted?

  • I believe that Michael English made Gaither what he is today.

  • that understand that is a pretty big statement but i definite agree with you. he was such a unique talent and when you look at where they were when he started and how big they were when he finished it is crazy. also when he was in the group the lead sang everything unlike now when all four members get a lot of leads

  • I believe that his presence helped, for sure. Michael, at least in my eyes, was the link between the old and the new. On the very first video with the quartet of Mike, George, Glenn, and Jim I saw something special. I'm not sure anyone could have served the purpose that Mike did when Gaither was getting his Homecoming footing. Everyone in Gospel music at the time respected, and most enjoyed, Mike. He's the only one who could pull off "Lamb of God" and turn around and sing "Going Home."

  • WHAT!?!

English could be in the same conversation as Michael W. Smith and Steven Curtis Chapman if he had appreciated how God brought him to Bill and Gloria in the first place. Michael gave Gaither his footing with some of the Southern Gospel talent, but Gaither already had a heritage in it.

Gaither has the distinct gift of knowing just what is right for the situation and the audience. That is what makes him what he is. Oh did I mention the hundreds and hundreds of songs he has written, too?

  • @cceldrid01 Michael was part of it, yes....but Bill has ALWAYS surrounded himself with stellar talent. Steve Green, Sandi Patti, Larnelle Harris, Gary McSpadden, Jon Mohr, Jim Murray, were all around Bill before Michael.....and of course, Mark Lowry, Guy Penrod, David Phelps, Wes Hampton, and others during his hiatus.

Combine that with Bill & Gloria (Gloria - words / Bill - Music) as a writing team, and you get the modern Bill Gaither.

Well, plus the fact he bought a video camera around 1990.

  • @tmlink74 Actually Mike was around before Mark Lowery.

  • @dphillips81 - Yeah, I know.

I'm not sure what about my post made you think I suggested otherwise.

  • @tmlink74 Lol, my bad. I read into your comment wrong. Sorry!

  • How many people in Gospel music aren't simply performing? Not many I would guess. Some of my favorites from over the years, even ones I am sure were genuine people with the right motivations, were working from a script most of the time.

    I always despised that.

  • he just appears self-centered here.

  • What an actor!

  • aint nobody can deliver a last verse like mr english.....amazing

  • this is a great song regardless of who sings it but i think that michael's second verse was like one long climax....kinda drug it out

  • for range you can't touch David Phelps...for feeling you can't touch Michael English...there are better things to fight about than the beautiful voices of these two men. :)

  • seriously? david phelps has so much more feeling....there isnt even an arguement there.

  • So true. David is the best legerro tenor I've ever heard, but even though Michael sings in a lower key, it is full, with a definite edge. I like them both, but Michael English for me is more inspiring, and more tied to his internal depth and feelings.

  • Gaither commented in the GVB Reunion DVD's that English has a "tear in that voice" to draw out the blood of the song.

Still, I have to say that his life choices did tear up that incredible voice that used to bring the roof down.....I miss it as it used to be.

  • That is exactly correct @niteowl4861... Finally someone gets it.

David Phelps has an incredible range... that's about it...

  • Michael English Gator...

  • Who is that singer in the tan slacks? He has a very good voice.

  • Hey dshelton47, do you have the video that you mentioned? If so, can you please post it up? Thanks!

  • Okay I really like this one, yeah David Phelps is awesome at singing but Michael English is singing it like it is written. I love how David phelps sings it too I mean it is amazing!! But Michael sings it from the heart as well as David!! God blessed them both!

  • I agree...but, like David a little better. Either way, they are both great singers and men of God.

  • Dude I agree with you... Hard to beat Micheal English

    carrolc

  • Na uh! David is better! lol. Awesome video. Just playing with ya Carrol.

  • There is no comparison, Michael is the best, hands down.

  • Come on....David is better than Michael...

  • ma uh! Britney is better! lol. Awesome video. Just playing with ya Carrol.

  • English has the better hair....winner! Just kidding - comparing these two is like trying to compare Anthony Hopkins and Cary Grant - different styles, different strengths, different ways of dazzling.

  • It was during this song, in Florida, that Michael English signaled a young man in the audience to come up and play the piano. Bill Gaither noticed that the piano sounded a little different, and saw a stranger playing!

That stranger was Anthony Burger, the greatest pianist in gospel music.

  • michael english is my favorite gaither vocal band member ever.

  • What a blessing to hear such a great song sang by such a great singer Michael English. The spirit on that day was so powerful.

  • there is nothing wrong with watching these videos and having an opinion on whom is better...they are awesome and it is fun to watch and debate...it doesn't take away from the "religious" side of it...lets not forget that they are professional entertainers and musicians as well as christians

  • we cant compare michael with david...c'mon guys david have better voice than michael 10000 times:)

  • People can compare if they'd like. You sure did, and not in a very respectful way. I'd prefer it if people would just enjoy the videos.

  • Nope... David has a higher range... that's all...

  • palmasdr question , you think there is a "best" or "better" for God, when both worship with the best they got? dont you think is a little unobjective for a Christian to compare when the point is how they worship or if they give the Lord the best the have :)

  • I am fan of Michael and of David. But I am a Fan of you guys that Post these wonder videos up. I am enjoying these older ones and seeing and hearing Gloria sing. I am so thankful that God used Bill Gaither to bring all of these annointed singers together and make these videos that have been a blessing to many many people through these years.

    Thanks to all the uploaders.

  • Thank you! It would be neat if everyone who had any of these pre-Homecoming videos would post them up.

  • mas o menos ... mejor es la version con David phelps..¡¡¡

  • I hope everyone enjoys these videos, but I didn't post them as a competition between Michael and David. They're both awesome singers, and each have their niche. There are so many videos of David out there, so I thought I would post some of Michael as well.

  • tienes razon.... sorry.... solamente queria explicar ... que phelps es mejor en esta version... (Michael es mejor en these are they ... me gusto mas)... gracias por subir este video...¡¡¡¡

  • No problem. There seems to be a decisive split between Phelps fans and English fans, at least when deciding whose version is the best between the two on any song that they both sang.

¿Usted no puede hablar inglés? La mayoría de las personas no le pueden entender.

  • best performence of this EVER
