"I have no idea to this day what those two Italian ladies were singing about. Truth is, I don't want to know. Some things are best left unsaid. I'd like to think they were singing about something so beautiful, it can't be expressed in words, and makes your heart ache because of it. I tell you, those voices soared higher and farther than anybody in a gray place dares to dream. It was like some beautiful bird flapped into our drab little cage and made those walls dissolve away" my thoughts exactly
This is one bands music who I'd never, ever not support. Such a shame, the emotions they convey, the entire world could not feel. I've been consider "bipolar" for many years. This music seriously has changed my life.
My breath is taken, warmth and comfort embrace me. I think of the world and I´m reminded what love is, towards anyone or anything. This is where I´m at, when I´m listening to Sigur Rós...
I've listened to this song so many times, and watched the video more than enough, and it's amazing how powerful the song is; but it isn't until I've looked at the video for my art research (I'm currently looking at facial expressions and emotion through music) that I've realised how much emotion is contained in the music and how much emotion is held with in people's faces, it's brilliant, and completely beautiful :)
You tried everything Yes, a thousand times. Experienced enough. Been through enough. But it was you who let everything. Into my heart. and it was you who once again. Awoke my spirit. I parted, you parted You stir up Emotions In a blender Everything in disarray But it was you who was always There for me and it was you who never judged My true friend.
wow your words took my breath away! thank you. i can think of a friend or two who is my true friend. hope you don't mind i send these beautiful words to them. thank you. namaste, bless you!
I parted, you parted (hopelandic) You sail on rivers With an old oar Leaking badly You swim to shore Pushed the waves away But to no avail You float on the sea Sleep on the surface Light through the fog (hopelandic)
I've heard that Sigur Ros doesn't want to sell out so they hold back from being put out there into the mainstream media. I love that they are doing that but also feel like they deserve more attention and that the world needs this indescribably powerful music, so I thought it would be cool if they allowed major publicity when they are done with their musical journey so all of the world can get a taste of real art. For the good of humanity. Your thoughts?
@theMuranosBand Part of me agrees but if I wouldn't want to take away that magical moment from someone to discover Sigur Ros on their own. I felt like I had been let in on a secret that was now mine. Of the many things I love about Sigur Ros is how personal & unique their music is to each person who discovers their music. Major publicity or becoming mainstream would take away from that personal experience.
Once the boys choir came in, and seeing how appreciative and how moving he felt by his own god damn music, made me cry. This is exactly what music should be. America fucking sucks.
not a particularly weepy person, but everytime i have ever heard this song in my life i have ended up with tears in my eyes. something about it...... holy.
when i first listened to this song i was lying in the dark staring at the glow-in-the-dark stars on my ceiling. they almost seemed to move, that's how magical it was. and then came the climax of the song and it was just so powerful i had to close my eyes. (and yes @chriscopelandTDK, that's the image that came into my head too)
This song, my motivation, this is what pushes me to lok for all thats good in this world. Also it makes me appreciate how much I really have. Such a deep song for a language I can't even understand. This band has really changed how I look at life.
I recently saw the name of this on a friend's facebook wall .. and to be honest i love metal .. but ... this song fucking trapped me ... Incredible song ..
Whenever I listen to this collection of wondrous musical artists, a part of me feels such a peacefulness. I cannot imagine what music will sound like a decade from now, yet what surrounds us presently is immensely beautiful.
This song has forever changed my life. It's proof that the power lies w/in the music and not just the lyrics. One cold and rainy winter night, my two best friends showed me this song and said to me, "I guarantee that you wll feel something in this song. Just sit here in the dark and listen." Holy cow. They were right. My eyes were opened to awhole new world of music...absolutely incredible. I love sigur ros.<3
This has been my favorite song for a long time, and every time I listen to it, I always get chills. Still, after all this time. Tonight I was feeling down because I'm losing someone very close to me, and it's killing me. Then I listened to this beauty, and right at 8:00 I just couldn't help it anymore. I started crying. Suddenly that heaviness was gone. Even though it's sad for me to think about losing him, this song reminds me that everything's going to be okay. Thank you, Sigur Ros.
I just discovered this guy's music about 30 minutes ago and have listened to nothing else. I wrote a poem as I listened to this, and I had literally no idea what the song was about, but my poem just came about however the song inspired me and I wrote it about a girl in a boat on the sea, and someone who left her. I went and looked up the translation and was amazed by the similarities. I knew how powerful the song felt, but I didn't know the meaning would transcend words. Wow. Seriously in awe.
@EraserSheds@SI3G3ANON sorry this took so long, I never check my mail, but here's the poem I wrote along with this: "Two-Four" The rain stayed out, a thousand times, if it lived there at all, i'll never know, if its for you, if its for you, throughout the sea, a blue girl, throughout the sea, i see her row, two-four, three-four, i saw you row, all alone, in the blue, you said "go," you said "go," and i was gone.
I've decided it's such a beautiful piece that I want it to be played at my funeral. I'm not saying my life and myself is beautiful but I just fell in love with this...
I cannot find words to convey the emotion this invokes in me, it simply transcends beauty and lifts me to a place that embraces peace and love at the core instead of money and greed.
Thank you Sigur Ros - a unique and woefully underrated musical talent and experience.
As morbid/sappy as this sounds, I want to listen this song when it's my time to die. There's just something so...comforting about this song. It's like when you were little and your mom smoothed your hair back before kissing you goodnight. It just makes you feel like everything is going to be all right.
Sigur Ros.. the only band that can either help me with nostalgia, sadness, loneliness and amognst any other feelings.. in the world. This.. is why I love you all.
beautifull.. just beautifull I also dont understand icelandic.. yet I own five cds.. four of which are albums.. one has a live cd in it which just blows my mind.. I feel like I understand his singing purely through the accompanying music.. no other band on the planet has ever done that to me...
Wow this really is awesome - between the awe created by the band and the orchestra and the fact they are recording at Abbey and being so focused in the moment. This is the stuff that dreams are made of.
Geniuses like Mozart and Beethoven couldn't have done this any greater. This piece of music gives me chills every time. And that's after like 200+ views. I don't understand how anyone could not like this
(Translation cont.) I parted, you parted (hopelandic) You sail on rivers With an old oar Leaking badly You swim to shore Pushed the waves away But to no avail You float on the sea Sleep on the surface Light through the fog
A translation i found on 'Song Meanings' (Rough translation) You tried everything Yes, a thousand times Experienced enough Been through enough But you it was who let everything Into my heart and you it was who once again Awoke my spirit I parted, you parted You stir up Emotions In a blender Everything in disarray But it was you who was always There for me It was you who never judged My true friend (Cont.)
Step out on a balcony, listen to this masterpiece, light a cigarette, be thankful for life and at the latest at 8:00 you´ll feel a peak in consciousness and have the mere feeling of beeing alive
I'm a big fan of Sígur Ros... How come I didn't listen to this masterpiece until now? I had the crappiest day, now tears are streaming out my eyes. How come this beautiful song can fix the way I was feeling? The right discovery in the right moment.
Questions come to mind: what language is this? Not being a mainstream language, some explanation seems to be in order. I have no idea if is expresses sadness or just quietness.
@mach37 The first half of this song is Icelandic, but the second half is "Hopelandic", which is made up by Jonsi. This way you can fill in the lyrics yourself and the song can mean whatever you want it to mean.
225,956 views .... so many people were made happy since I put this up here 09... makes me happy myself right now when I think about it, listening to Robbie Robertson's When night was young.... what a beautiful world this is
The song in itself is already moving, but when the choir is singing and you see all of the people just producing this beautiful sound all at once, it's almost overwhelming.
One day, when I'm dying in my hospital bed, I hope someone there puts some headphones on me with this song playing. I want my last moments to be reflecting on my life, with my loved ones around me, and this song playing. It's...perfect.
I start to get chills at 4:50 as the song begins a crescendo into one of the most amazing pieces of music I've ever heard. Sigur Ros is the best band on the planet by far and I can't even understand Icelandic. I don't need to.
This is the first thing I've ever saw/ listened to from this group. I gotta say, I think I'm about to be on a binge of their music!

@milesgr I don't understand Icelandic either but the overwhelming emotion displayed in this performance says it all.
