No one can touch Judy Collins' version, but Crystal comes pretty damned close. Crystal actually had Judy as a guest star on her 1979 TV special (the clips are on YouTube), and told her about what a big Judy Collins fan she'd been in the '60s, which is apparent from this beautiful version of this song.

I've loved this song since I was in about first grade and first heard Crystal Gayle sing it. I had it on a cassette tape that my mom gave me. I have sung it ever since and this is by far the best version. She captures the girly feeling or maybe she defined it. I also wanted to have hair like hers.

Funny how when looking at her beauty, she doesn't quite give away when this Concert might have been recorded. Usually with fashion trends women quickly give away this with hair styles or dresswear but not Crystal! Her look and dress style is timeless (and to my mind, perfect!) When she introduces her band it’s the guys that give away how long ago this was!

She did say she was "a different Crystal" at home with no make-up, saying she didn't mind being approached in public. Discussed picking the stage name, but did not refer to herself as Crystal or 'she' instead of 'I' where appropriate. Of course always the hair, because everyone asked! :o)

It's the only time in the article that she refers to herself in the third person, but it must have made an impression.

yeah, she is beautiful, has a great( really great) voice, and a pretty good interpretation of this classic BUT where is the pedal steel??? A electric guitar just can't do wehat Buddy Emmons did on Collins recording , a fiddle can get close but only a pedal steel guitar can really do it- and it's about a rodeo rider and a girl who lives where there are blue northers. gotta have the steel. Also, not to carp, a little too conversational, but still my 3rd favorite version. ( Collins recorded,suzy)
