nice setup, I just bought 2 babies... They are both the size of a quarter if that.
Does anyone know how much water they like? I filled it up so its barely over their shells and gave them 2 places to get out of the water. One underneath the basking light and the other place is out of the basking light.
its different depending on where you live for supplies and turtles also but i'v alway seen them at the price of 15 to 25 dollars... looking in to store site like petco or petsmart... don't buy your turtle at petco though petco is the worst place for buying reptiles b/c the ppl are ignorant and i can't say about petsmart... go ahead and try buying a turtle fom a breeder on the imternet
I have a RES (at least I think it is an RES and not a western painted turtle) but I want to know the differences between the two species. I know when theyre young you can hardly see the difference
RES have red ears regardless the age so if it have a red band behind its head its is a RES, also RES has NO red coloring on the top or bottom of its shell.....when RES are young they are green PT are dark colored
You need to get the turtle a basking platform and basking light. Get a heat bulb with UVB and UVA. It should be 25-75 watts depending on the distance from the basking platform. 12 inches should maximum and 6 inches minimum. I use a 50 watt at 7 inches and my turtles are non stop basking. If you're worried about electricity the heat bulb can replace the fish tank light. Great turtle and keep up the good work. =]
ummm how do u tell the age of my two turtles??? my painted is 3 inches and my res is about 4 or 5

Im just set up a 20 gallon tank for my painted turtle. It cost around 300$ including filters, and all extra supplies.
