  • Wow, I'm french and I'm often ashamed that so few french people speak english... I mean, they know how to, you know, we learn it at school for several years ! But they WON'T just TRY to speak it ! Well some do, of course, but they're so rare... C'mon, every french knows what "milk" is, and here she's just pretending she doesn't...

  • Why directy hate on the french calling them haters?

  • its easy if u learn french when u were litle like me

  • 0:40 she says "Danao". Not "Bottled Water" ...

  • Go to a Chinese restaurant in America, the people can speak Chinese. Go to an American restaurant somewhere, they can't speak English and we, the Americans are treated stupid. Some people are huge hypocrites.

  • @112stuff Hipocrisy is an art.

  • did you get the Mcfrog leg strips?

  • The woman can't speak english. lol ! She is not very clever...

  • @Sandysfashion maybe because she's french and she has a shite job at mcdo's. the guys french is pathetic

  • @fartinmartinbartin I'm agree with you ! Lol

  • @Sandysfashion people are not supposed to speak another language in THEIR countries. Tourists that go there should speak, or at least try to speak the language spoken there. just like that guy in the video

  • @Sandysfashion she is surely more clever than you, who considers not speaking a foreign language is to be dumb

  • @TheSitHamster You don't know me, I'm sure you don't want to. Me either. But when you're born in France, in a good family, you can speak english.

  • @Sandysfashion and what do you call a good family? a rich one?

  • @TheSitHamster No. A family with children who go at school.

  • @Sandysfashion knowledge and intelligence are not the same thing

  • ok so when you go to france you try speak french but when you go to québec you dont give a F*** ??

  • haha thats funny. are you working in france?

  • I'm so glad you attempted to speak French. Even if it is flawed, it is great to hear someone making an effort.

  • usualy, our girls are pretty... I said USUALLY lol

  • as a french, I do always apreciate tourists at least TRYING to speak french...

  • @sekahkiller That's interesting. I've been told that French would rather tourists to speak English rather than bastardize their language. This isn't so? I've also been told that no matter how well americans speak French, the French citizens can always tell if you're american or not. Is that accurate?

  • @xirishmagicx I don't care if your french is good or not, if you come like Excusez-moi rather than Excuse me that'll be enough lol. You know the world believe we are arrogant and proud but France lost its moustaches and patriotism in the 60's or 70's. So I don't care if you fuck my language LOL. And yes we recocognize Americans. And don't believe we hate US. You gotta know that French are always unsatisfied with their own government and that's the reason we feel all right with criticizing yours.

  • @sekahkiller I'm really trying hard to perfect French. If I'm going to learn a language then my goal is to obviously blend in with the people. When I first started I thought, "This won't be so bad" WRONG! There's so many little nuances and subtle sounds that are non-existent in English. Quite the challenge and very fun. Would you mind if I asked you some questions along my journey in order to get things right? It would help to have a native speaker (I hope you are). Thanks for replying. : )

  • @xirishmagicx Sure! I'd be glad to help you, maybe sometimes I'll asked you some questions too, my english ain't that good. My sentences are pretty often nonsense lol. and yes I'm french, I live in Paris. I'm a real one Haha

  • @xirishmagicx where do you come from? good luck french is really hard to learn .. like you said there are sounds in french that are non existent in English like "r" and "ou" that are very hard to pronounce for american or english people. i noticed that when i went to the us, and honestly with a lot of practice you'll be fine!

  • @sekahkiller Good insight. And for the record, only Fox News created "Freedom Fries" .The rest of us continued to call them French Fries. It was purely a creation from the media!

  • 7:28 hahahah. so funny! "Tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiired! Don't even see it!" LOL

  • So do they serve French style meals in the form of your standard Mcdonalds meal. For instance a Royal with Cheese a Big Mac side of Fries and for drink a cool refreshing glass of Champagne.

  • @Dancing88Mike for the champagne, i don't think so, it's not a low cost food. But we have events burgers that are made with french cheeses :)

  • bad.

  • wow... i'm impressed... most ppl complain the hell out of american tourists because they expect everyone to speak english and take USD everywhere. you're one of a kind ;)

  • When I was a kid I liked McDonalds, because it was new taste etc.

Now, when I have had more experience with foods I can't stand McDonalds food. (aside from coffee which is standart Merrild coffee and ice cream). That plain carrdboard tasteless "burger" can't even sit near real hamburger or even a simple cooked bean dish, say from India streets

Until I quit eating fastfood I also found Hesburger (finnish burgers) to make somehow better burgers than MD.

  • Mcdonalds is everywhere0_0 I personally don't like Mcdonalds (just don't like the food lik that). What other store in America can you find around the world.

  • @Pooky1991 burger king, KFC, Pizza Hut, Wendy's, etc.

  • @Pooky1991 Virgin

  • they're trying to do a remake of pulp fiction or something ? lol

  • I work in a social place and sometimes I gotta deal with that kind of stuff and I gotta say I think it's pretty cute xD...

  • HAHA being a frenchspeaker (but no French :P). I have to say I'm a fan - keep practising your french!

    :)

  • a fucking peterpan hat?! that's awesome lol.

  • Damn McDonald's is like fine dining in other places. Did you know they have frick'n security in the play place in Chile?

  • It was a nice video cause IMHO it's always interesting to see an interaction (as hard and confusing as it may sometimes can be!!!) between 2 strangers people.

As a French myself, I guess the commentators here overeacted to much about this vid, showing a man far from home, trying to be understood by someone who didn't speak his language at all, just for his kid's pleasure. That was cool, dude. France loves your type, you're that kind of tourist we really adore... Be safe.

    PEACE

  • Hey, try say "Freedom Fries" in french and see wut happens!

  • Meme si c'est en France, je trouve que les personnes a la commande doivent connaitre un minimum en anglais car le Mc Do c'est americain n'est ce pas?!

  • WOW! Their bags have handles...

  • McDonalds. The TRUE global imperialist.

  • McDonald's in Paris was the best!!!!

  • Nice Intro! :) I believe the nearest American equivalent to "Compote" is "Applesauce"

Do people still say "Pomme- Frites"? for fries or is it just "Frites"? nowadays?

  • I think it's just "frites".

At least, when I was in Canada, that's what I was hearing more often.

  • We just say Frites.

  • when he said french fries i thought he said "Palm Pri." lol

  • is 'actimel', happy meal en français?

  • @irishdude69 actimel is a french liquid yoghurt made by Danone.

  • hahaha it's not it's a milky drink

  • no, it isn't. Happy meal has the same name in french McDonald's.

Actimel is kinda milkshake in little plastic cans

  • well more than 1 year after but...you did very well! you spoke french and she couldn't say a word in english...even "Actimel" is not understood by every french...love the kid disgusted by the happy meal's toy...priceless...reminds me mine everywhere...well done mate!

  • no matter where you go in the world.. you can't get away from mcdonald's

  • @omx12 That's true, Burger King is usually on the other side of the street :D

  • @omx12 i do not eat nor support that bad food corporation it will kill you

  • you're holding up the line !!! hurry before a french dude starts honking !!

  • lol no luck, the girl is a total idiot! (i'm french)

  • indeed, (I'm french too), she could have show you the two desserts...

actimel and donao are two french brands of milky dessert. and the "compote" (I don't know the translation in english, "stew" according to google) is a dessert made with fruits mixed and cooked, in most cases apples.

Tips : In France, Quarter Pounder with cheese is "Royal Cheese"

  • We use the word "compote" in English and it means the exact same thing. When it comes to food English speaking people use a lot of French terms, saute, a la carte, pate, puree, mousse, bisque, soup du jour, braise, melange, consomme, crepe, entree, filet, cutlet, julianne, meringue, roux, souffle and on and on. This is part of the vocabulary of the average English speaking person who doesn't realize we have borrowed thousands of French words. :)

  • i think some of the commentators take this a little too seriously hehe everybody to me seemed cordial and it was a fun video. i enjoyed the interaction between everybody :) i've felt like this many a time when i speak spanish lol

  • Dans quelle ville etait-ce ?

  • how is this guy an idiot? for doing his best he can to get his kids some McDonalds? well i guess the woman in her 30s making a career out of working the McDonalds drive through is entitled to call other people idiots, huh?

  • haha he is making the effort to speak french very good :)

  • she is really very good and patient. WHY is the child not in a car seat? It is not okay to sit on someone's lap -- even if there is no car seat law in Paris (?)!

  • it's not healthy to feed a 2y old chld with an happy meal menu.... anyway it' not easy for us french also to order sometime a menu abroad, Mc donald adapt the menu according to the contry, and personaly i like the sunday caramel ice cream. i never found it in UK jut the "yuky" smarties thing. beurk

  • lol , u rock , i lol'ed so hard to see how u were embarrassed ^^ and i liked the "you are an idiot" part ;) .

u were unlucky, coz "danao" and 'actimel' are two brands of milky dessert , u couldn't get it .

  • "C'est bien. 4 euro."

God I love being FULLY bilingual in Eglish and French!

  • She didn't say 24 euros but 4 euros... 24 euros is around 30 dollars so quite expensive for an happy meal !

  • being british and half french, i hav a natural dislike for typical americans (note i dont say ALL americans). everyone is different. my mum is french but she hates frogs legs. i'm brittish but i hate blood pudding. likewise, it would be unfair to suggest that all americans are arrogent, self righteous or over patriotic.

  • I'm a 1/4 French-1/4 Lithuanian, and an 1/8 each of Brit/Irish/German/Russian. A true mutt. I agree with you except for the 'natural dislike'. Your dislike of the US public isn't natural, it's mostly what's fed to you. You watch our dumb TV programming or *headdesk* over Bush (I did that too!), but really, most of us are pretty okay (and didn't VOTE for Bush to begin with, lol). The Americans commenting on YT aren't 'typical', they're just more prominent.

But we DO have idiots! ;)

  • thank you, finally another brit who can comment in a civilised manner, I've had nothing but cursing, irreverant, children lashing out at me lately, and all of them have been from England

  • Casse toi pauvre con, vous ete même pas Francais mais un Luxembourgian.

    Vous faite chier, connard!

  • ma père est française...

  • isnt that the most stupid thing ? ur in france n u eat McDonalds ?..... ur just stupid...

  • Give him a break, it's for his 2-year-old son who wanted a happy meal, and he put in a decent effort without being a complete asshole.

She was very nice and patient. What are you trying to do with this video ? Ah yes, I forgot, french people and arrogant and rude ! Stay at home it will be better.

  • She said: "24 euros s'il vous plait"

not "you're an idiot". But ME, I can say YOU'RE AN IDIOT !!!!

  • yah, hasn't he seen "supersize me" yet?

he's asking for an early death eating there and making his child prone to disease later in life too!

  • she looks interested in you man

    you missed the chance...

poor american you cant see that...

  • She didn't mean IDIOT!!!HAHAHA!! She asked 24 EURO!!U idiot!^^ LOL

  • sometime i am amaze ...

I was in Ottawa in a restaurant ...

Ottawa capital of a Bilingual and for the fun of it i ask.

    Une salade végétarienne

The girl never understand until we said

    Vegetarian Salade...

    Phoneticaly it's almost the same

Dessert dam'it you really . honestly could't figur it out she mean de dessert...

What are you gonna do if you travel in japan.

And by the way you cross the sea forget about big mac go for a "steak frite" in a bistrot ;)

  • Z girl trys 2 propose a dessert Bcause in Z Happymeal menu(in france anyway)Zere is a dessert wiZ Z oZer things(burger french fries & drink)& Bcause U didn't say wich dessert U want, she asks you wich 1 U want between "Actimel"or"apple compote stewed fruit" but she visibly doesn't speak english & doesn't know how 2 make U understand. But she's not especially idiot! And U say that she calls U an idiot but it's not true! show me when in Z video, does she say this?

  • Here's Z deal....

If you look at 1:37, you will see her words "you idiot". I KNOW she didn't really say that but this was supposed to be humorous.

The joke is really about me not knowing French and looking foolish, which I was.

I read all of these comments and no one seems to understand that....

    (The video creator)

  • I watched back (sorry for my bad english) at 1:37, many times, & all that I hear is "ça fera 4(quatre) euros" "It makes 4 euros", & I don't see her lips (just after this phrase) move as if she sayd "you idiot", in french like in english! Maybe we all are like Helen Keller here, but maybe you didn't understand her because you're not french?

  • Sorry, I read back your comment, & I have just understand what you meant (I think...not sure)I believed with all others here, that you said, the girl treated you an idiot. But I understood that you treat yourself an idiot! It's humour. Well, I'm gonna do the same with myself for this little scene of incomprehension! :-) (Difolk? Yes? YOU IDIOT!!!!!!) (and Bradmethvin...you're not idiot! you just don't speak the language of the country)

  • I'm sorry, but you need to know that if you go in the countries of southern europe you can't claim that everyone spoke in english because we don't know english!! Is a fact! But maybe you need to think that for you is easier go in others countries and claim to be understood! Maybe I'm an idiot too..but how many languages did you know except yours??

  • she seems very very nice and patient!! and don't call you an idiot !

  • oooooh, that mademoiselle is so, well, so chic!

  • youre in france and uoy eat this shit!!!

speak french in france or be quiet. shes not idiot, yu have to speak french, dumbass

  • (By the creator of the video)

Whether you are in France or anywhere else, if you have a picky child you'll go anywhere. Notice that a Happy Meal was all we ordered.

By the way, she's calling me an idiot-which I was for mangling their language at an American restaurant.

I am trying to just show Americans how frustrating it can be to please your child- in this case in the middle of France.

  • I don't understand. When is she calling you an idiot????

  • it isn't an american restaurant. It is an american franchise in france, so it is a french restaurant. And you could look at a menu.

  • lol, of course its an American restauraunt. they serve american food with a french touch. i love how all the mcdonalds commericals in europe make it seem like its such a local business.lol the profit of these mcdonalds goes to the USA, its american food, mcdonalds owns the properties, so its American

  • But....She didn't call you an idiot!

  • Hahahahah

    Idiot! :D

  • wow you're cool.
