Let me preface this by saying I love Broadway. But what the hell is this? THIS is what some moron chose as the half-time show at the NBA All Star Game? Did no one else think this was an odd pairing? Way to know your audience, guys. SMH.
Best Halftime show ever at the NBA All-Star game. Every year I watch the All-Star game, or go to the real game, hoping for something to come close but it never comes close.
OMG!!!! The whole thing was amazing but the seamless change between Les Mis and Titanic just blew me away! The music just fits so well and sounded amazing!
Hmmm. Seems below broadway standard to me. :-( Particularly the Phantom performance...that was just sad. :-P Were these the broadway principles performing?
I guess the acoustics and sound system probably weren't the best, to be fair.
Phantom was pretty well on par with the cast I saw on Broadway two summers ago. I know that the Jekyll & Hyde and Scarlet Pimpernel were the original casts, and I think Chicago was the original revival cast though I could be wrong. It would stand to reason that they're all the principles. You have to adjust judgment because they're using boom mikes in a stadium that's probably the worst building ever for acoustics.
At the risk of being corny... this was MY Broadway when I was in Jr. High School! I think I had the cast recordings for each of these shows and fell in love with every last one. :)
And what a lineup of original casts!! Douglas Sills, Robert Cuccioli, Bebe Neuwirth, Linda Eder, Michael Cerveris, Victoria Clark... and was that even Lea Salonga with the "Miss Siagon" cast??
How fast ten years fly, eh? lol... Thank you SO MUCH for posting!
@bdtb I think it was actually Ted Keegan. From a website about him: 'And he has the distinction of being the actor who has sung the role in front of the largest audience ever, when he made a spectacular flying entrance from the dome of Madison Square Garden singing "Music of the Night" during the half-time show of the NBA All-Star Game.'
@Tarabara I've seen 3 other phantoms besides him, and he was by far the best! He gave such an emotional performance, and has the best voice of the ones I've seen.
I would assume it's Douglas Sills..but I'm not positive. And I Love Linda Eder at 6:50 and especially at like 7:03! This is amazing..two of my favourite things!
the stuff they did with Broadway shows in the 90's was so cheesy!

Great performances. Check out 17 year old Victoria Marston perfornming All that Jazz. We will see her on Broadway someday!

Probably because it's in an arena they thought it would sound more apealing I guess?
The only one it sounds completely utter crap filled is for Les Mis! Cats doesn't sound that great either, but the others arent all that bad!

Mattbrain 4 years ago
who was the phantom?
johnvaljean 4 years ago 2
I'm not sure, but Thomas James O'Leary was the Broadway Phantom at that time, so it is probably him.
