  • Stuart Adamson is the best singer, writer, guitarist and the sexiest man I've ever laid eyes on. I could listen to Big Country and nothing else, as a matter of fact, their music is all I keep in my car. Love Skids too! Damn how he is missed. And he only got better and better.

  • Miss you Stu xx

  • Love watching this with my dad

  • top tune rip stuart

  • fantastic i remeber it well bring back the tube went to see them at birmingham odean since seen drummer with loads of bands booked tickete to see them in feb at brum love the alarm aswell

would have been bigger than U2 stuart R.I.P

  • One of the best live bands I ever saw, before everyone played in arena's R.I.P stu

  • saw these lads live in notts, not good, they where fuckin fantastic,

  • seen them live .they ere excellent.

  • Adamson was amazing (not really here..).. I wish he had conquered his demons..

  • Great clip.

The Tube was a fantastic show.

Had a lot of it on video - wished I'd have transered it all to DVD.

Anyone know if there's any of the old Tube stuff to buy on DVD ?

  • stu i miss ur guitar playing so much RIP

  • 80s music is the best

  • drum and bassist on point and synced!

  • A rocking track even to this day

  • If they were to all to go on stage now and just shit I would be happy.

  • It is not complicated ..big country the alarm etc were all great but in rock and roll any period only leaves a single band who go on to last. These gys competed with U2 and U2 were betterProdyuction and management.

Would Big Country ever have prgressed to be the biggest band in the world by 1987 Joshua tree//maybe not

  • Where did all the BC music videos go? I can't find any ...

  • My good! I love those dual lead guitars, in this case maybe dual bagpipes, Big fan of Thin Lizzy:s great guitarists, Skids guitars was also geat, a bit same same but very different. In Big Country Stuart managed to organize those a bit sketchy guitar-ideas from Skids (lovely band!) further. Miss the guy deeply!

  • short and sweet - class...............no hang on. With better management (iv'e said for years boring people) they could have been one of the best bands of the era. The Smiths......? they don't play the same type of music. They both have their place but Big Country would win ....unless you like to throw daffodills about

  • HALF SCOT HALF ENG i know ,main man a scot ,best band ever ..

  • Big Country. One of the best Bands ever

  • after mike peters dismal but brave performance on friday here's the real deal

  • They played Sunderland Poly. What a Fuckin' Set. Man.

  • Alba gu braith

  • im 15 and i love this song!

  • oh does music to dance to get any better than this, my God, iv got goosepimplesLOL!!!!! wish i'd seen BC live with Stuart Adamson, R.I.P, lovely music!!!! Genius!!!

  • Brilliant! I can remember watching this go out live. Channel 4 should release a DVD Box Set of every episode of The Tube. Even if it was £200, I'd buy it.

  • Saw them last night at Norwich Waterfront. Awesome. Mike Peters spoke so warmly about Stuart and that affection shone throught in his interpretation of the songs. A night I will never forget

  • Up the Tartans!

  • WTG Scots! Needs more Pipes! Ha

  • a used tae go intae hairdressers wi pic of stu and get hair cut like his god rest his soul rip stu ;-(((

  • Shame about the lead guitarist he made some shocking errors in the solos especially in the intro. Still a great track and reminds me of my youth

  • As regards the lad below of irish extraction the only people i personally dont like, irish americans or not are those who have endorsed violence as the way forward in my country if your one of these morons fuck off back to your cave otherwise try and live in peace like the rest of us.Thanks for the memories B.C. by the way this was so out of tune its awful.

  • ya had achoice back then, loads of shite music, or shit hot stuff like big country, i know what i liked, kids ask ya mam n dads,

  • Brilliant song. R.I.P. Stuart

  • Still great to this day

  • Does this mean since im born to irish parents in the usa I shouldnt have irish pride. I heard that people in ireland dont like irish americans. ????

  • @kncklesandwich

What's an Irish American?... A Yank who drinks Guinness and gets pissed out of there mind on st Paddy's day and slags off the English and donates to the IRA and gives refuge to terrorists of that elk! Your either Irish or American so make your mind up. And the Irish are only Irish if they are born on the lovely Emerald Isle and don't you forget it! Anyway fuck the politics back to the video, "BRIWYIANT"!

  • @mainlymojo I like red ale beer year around. I used to race speedway motorcycles with billy hamill, greg handcock and lived with many uk riders while they raced here in the us years ago. Iv never felt there was a true hate for us untill now lol. Ur right im not irish because i wasnt born there but my genetic make up makes me like to draink and fight. Im glad i got to meet so many european riders, wifes, kids and hear there storys. Not all yanks are bad. Kind regards

  • Big Country rocks~!

  • i can give a hell of what any of you say ''really'' tahts part of being a rebel.SIM

  • This must have been around the time i saw them at 'The Bear Pit' or maybe it was called 'Dingwalls' ( I know it was one or the other but cant remember which) in Newcastle upon Tyne because they had the same knee length pants on. Edgy

  • Of course, everyone loves Stuart and the famous guitars, but this rhythm section is one of the best ever to play in the Rock era. ........ just, kind of ignore some of the fashion.

  • You've got to laugh at the matching capris, though.

  • That is just bad-ass. I am the only of freinds who likes Big Country, hell, who even knows of Big Countrys B-sides.

  • Ripping stuff. Big Country almost playing punk.

  • RIP Stuart, your music lives on.

  • Best band ever!! Couoldn't give a shiny shit if they are English, scottish or Iranian!!

  • Great track, now where is music like this today?

    *sighs*

  • i was there xxxxxxxxxxx

  • Is it just the source and encoding, or did "The Tubes" have really crappy sound mixing? Everything I've heard from the show is unbalanced and muddy compared to something like OGWT (which may not be a fair comparison).

I wore out Big Country's first record on my car stereo back in '85-'86. By memory, though, everything they did either seemed like a variation of "In A Big Country" or was completely unmemorable. Too bad; the basic sound is nice, and they're obviously sincere about it.

  • @jackal59

    I like OGWT myself.

  • Saw them at Reading Festival in '82 - one of the best gigs ever seen...

  • So many great bands back then,ah the memories

  • Living in upper Minnesota the only BC exposure was almost non existent. for my fifteenth Birthday my mother (originally from Bristol) bought me The Crossing on cassette. She had no idea of the band, just knew it was modern (at the time). Ever since Big Country has been one of my favorite groups. Every song is worth listening to on all the albums. Cant say that for any of the artists today.

  • Absolutely loved them. Grew up with U2 but they were just as good. So sad about Stuart.

  • I used to see Stuart alot at Knockhill watching the motorbike racing. I always felt that he was uncomfortable with people always recognising him and staring at him. I don't think he liked the fame thing, just wanted to be like anyone else in the crowd...

  • Awsome. It was after watching this very show live that I became a Big Country fan. This led me to discover the Skids, who, in my opinion were just as good. R.I.P. Stuart.

  • The boy in the Irish top's certainly enjoying himself!

    Stay alive.

  • rock & roll is not a competition between bands you can enjoy them all grow up people

  • Last good live tv music show!

  • still one of my favorite bands can't believe he cut his time short.

  • Big Country's guitar work had that distinctive bagpipe sound. Their music does remind me of Scotland and the traditional music of that country.

  • @ajittffcure toyally agree with that mate, they managed to create a very distinctive sound indeed

wonderful memories of a very influential and enjoyable band

  • I would love to be in that crowd.. Such beauty in it all..

  • @guyfromnewcastle seen them at the Mayfair in 1987.....it was awesome, and they were so loud...miss the mayfair

  • This was such a fantastic band, USA doesn't know a good sound when they hear it...and I'm American! There is no doubt in my mind this band should have succeeded here...

  • I'm not Scottish, but seeing this makes me want to be.

  • THE DRUMMER OF THIS BAND WAS GREAT!

  • @starjac.: You're right... they were my BAND in the 80s and it is still MY music. Try MOGWAI... from Glasgow!

  • Just another example of the fine music of Scotland. I am from Cleveland, OH and grew up listening to Big Country. Unfortunately, like many bands from the UK, they never got the airplay they so rightly came by. The dumbest title was to say Big Country was a "one hit wonder". The Crossing is one of the best recordings ever. Much love to my other Scottish favs, Garbage and the boys from East Kilbride, The Jesus and Mary Chain. Cheers.

  • yay....

  • Anyone have a link to the original video??? Love the bag pipes dudes in the smoky battlfiield... OOH RAHH

  • i SAW THEM IN THIS SMALL CLUB IN SOME SHITTY TOWN CALLED VANCOUVER, CANADA...CCA 1990...THEY WERE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMAAING

  • I saw Big Country support Queen at Knebworth In 86 and was very impressed with them.

  • Totally F***ing AWESOME as ever!!!!!!!!! Long Live Big Country. God rest Stuart, we'll never see another like you.

  • @Andsaca1 awesome 80s band

  • saw Big Country in 1985 Leisureland Galway..fantastic, energetic outstanding brilliant gig

  • fire's cool

  • This band had " Greatness" writtin all over them!

  • Stuart Adamson RIP

  • I see Mark Brzezicki is now drumming with 'From The Jam'. I first saw BC as a support act to The Jam in 1982. Never thought 28 years later I'd see an amalgam of both bands in one act. I Miss Big Country Big Time. 'In a Big Country dreams stay with you'.

  • Such a talented band ! They are underappreciated! Thanks for putting this vid up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • thank goodness mark doesn't drag the tempo here! sorry huge drumset people -but he does have that tendency .

  • I was moved to despair to learn of Adamson's suicide. His music was so optimistic, so bold. It cut to my heart.

  • I know. Terrible. He was cute too.

  • @pitbullgirl65 as we Glagy lad. I say och ye new, fuck ya outside our we clan, weee stu. gave is all, he gave is all

  • One of the best bands I have had the pleasure of seeing live. RIP Stuart

  • I absolutely adore this video. Even though they fuck up countless times, it still sounds kick ass. What makes the video for me is the guys in the middle of the crowd who are proper loving it.

  • Best music of a great area of good music at all...

I love the power of Stu's voice and the great sound of this outstanding band!!

  • Great vibes ! Still hit as hard as when i was young....And yes, BC is suppadubbamillionbillion

    times better that U2.....

  • @kundaflower

One of my favourite bands..saw them in Aberdeen for the Millennium Celebrations..great live, and i'm a U2 Fan as well..not about one v the Other, as we all know we all like different things..me, i like bands who can sing and play guitars, I liked the Skids before bc, and then onto BC...ps 1min12 in as Stu sings 400 miles..like the Boy album cover in the shot:-)

  • Ok folks.Enough of this''better than you'' shit. The allies fought and died together!

Big country are a band from Dunfermline,Scotland.(although two members were English)They were huge in the early-mid 80's but possibly not as big as the Smiths.I loved them then and still do.(and the Smiths!)

  • @lyallbaybum69 well put m8.

  • @lyallbaybum69

I completely agree w/you about the one-upsmanship bullshit.

My mother happens to be a native Scot (Stirling, of Scottish/Irish parents) but has absolutely nothing to do with My affinity for Big Country, Stuart Adamson's lyrics/etc or Celtic history/culture.

BC were & ARE an amazing musical act & those who experienced them LIVE are VERY FORTUNATE!

Actually, neither 6-string guitarists are Scottish NATIVES; Bruce from Timmins, Ontario, Canada & Stuart from Manchester, England. : )

  • @castratephilanderers o

och mate...we are gonna claim the pair of them for Scotland, seeing as how they both spoke with a Scottish accent and lived there. Its a wee trait us Scots have...

We also claim Johnny Cash AND Elvis as they both had Scots ancestry.

    Martyn Bennett's ours too!

  • @lyallbaybum69 Excuse me, I enjoyed the interplay until you chose to claim Johnny and Elvis. We'll have to negotiate a deal, I'm a Bay City Rollers fan. I'll get back to you soon.

  • @castratephilanderers

stuart was born in Manchester to scottish parents, the family moved back to scotland at an early age, if that doesnt make him a native scot then your mother of scottish/ irish parents is certainly not a native tbh

  • @lyallbaybum69 Both brilliant. I'm Irish and put them up there with U2 in the 80's

  • @lyallbaybum69 way to keep it positive, dude.

  • @lyallbaybum69 An absoloutly amazing band, but none of them are Scottish (Tony, Mark and Stuart are English and Bruce was born in Canada!!) not that it really matters where there from. There music is some of the most powerfull and emostional ever written. Long live the rebirth of the band.

  • @axlvomit69 are you kidding? Stuart Adamson was Scottish.

  • @AHandsomeman Nah mate sorry, Stuart was born in Manchester! He moved up to Scotland early on and lived in Crossgates just outside Dunfermline. Granted he spent most of his life in Scotland, and viewed himself as scottish. He was a trully lovely guy and massivley underated.

  • @axlvomit69 Aye,and he also had a flat above the chip shop in Townhill!

If you asked him his nationality,he'd proudly tell you that he was a Scot.

Cliff Richard(not for me bro)was born in India to his English parents.Does that make him Indian?

  • @lyallbaybum69 yeah he is Indian that Cliff Richard

  • @AHandsomeman yeah thats right and your right he was ENGLISH

  • @lyallbaybum69 there better than the smith, they can play and sing !

  • Americans fought in WWII to defend their country and to help French get their country back and assist their closest allies the British as well and beat the Nazis together.

I'm an American who has loved Big Country since 1983.

  • What's with all the nasty shit here? Has nothing to do with Big Country. Let's celebrate one of the greatest bands on the planet, and one of the most talented human beings to walk this earth. Adamson Forever!

  • Rest in piece Stuart, can't believe its been eight years.

  • r.i.p stu you had so much talent

  • The only good thing that came out of the United States is a British Airways flight to United Kingdom. Americans, all the Gear and No Idea. Big Country was my Favourite band in 80's and 90's and for Live performance , is as good and maybe better than the Fabulous Simple Minds. U2, have Nothing on Big Country. Stuart was highly focussed and Intelligent, with Compassion for others. The Ultimate Stadium Rockers. A Terrible shock to everyone with Stuarts Passing. Stuart will Never be Forgotten.

  • Sorry..Ruffian! I didnt know you guys had an army!!! Ironically the two wars you allegedly "bailed our asses out of" didnt turn out so well for us! Now plz keep any more Anti american comments restricted to Bush!! I will aplogize for him!

  • Maybe thats because you lot don't know who to shoot at PMSL.

  • you didnt mind us coming over there to bail your asses out in WW1 and WW2...did you?

  • Yeah! and you were late for both of them! Two and a half hard years we stood alone where were you then? You were'nt interested until 07/12/41 so dont make out you entered the war for our benefit! As for WW1 you were 3 years late for that one even I dont think you were in France long enough to get your boots wet! Please dont make out that you're any better than you really are. You always have the equipment but its the Brits who are the brains with the twisted steel and sex appeal!

  • Didn't mind us ( Australia ) helping you out bail out your asses in both Korea and Vietnam....did you ?

  • Ha ha from a yank!

    Boycott america they invade everywhere,clown!

pot kettle and black ya bass!

  • How about we boycott no one and work toward that whole, y'know, "love thy neighbor" thing. Everyone would be a lot happier, I assure you.

  • Such an amazing band. My dad introduced me to this Big Country when i was 11. I am 18 now and i still looooooooooooooooooooove it.

  • I'm 18 as well, "In a Big Country" was one of my favorite songs when I was little. XD

  • Top stuff, few bum notes but hey!!!

  • It makes me seriously sad this talented person died.

I saw Big Country so many times in Europe when I was stationed in Germany in the RAF.

    He was a fantastic talent.

The amount of times as young men out for a good time we'd scream at the top of our lungs "Stay Alive!!!" like Stuart did.

This song brings back so many happy memories -- thanks Stuart. Love you mate.

  • this band kicked ass on stage great days of my life

  • Even today ...if your in the crowd ..you had to go ...beserk!!!!!!!

  • Saw them in the 80's at Shepton Mallet, they were one of the greatest live bands you would hope to see. No wonder everyone left when UB40 came on. Abysmal live act.

  • So lucky to have seen them live down in Torquay. Stuart was so talented......

  • Great vid, one of my faves...btw...this is off-topic, but I'd like to let everyone out there reading this know the Chinese Communist Party has been persecuting 70 million Falun Gong spiritual practitioners for 10 years in China. The media doesn't cover it. It must stop, so they can be free like we are here. Thanks.

  • still fukin love big country

  • 26 years on I still remember the impact Big Country had on the UK music scene. Great musicians, great songs but most of all an unforgettable passion and energy. Even love the bum notes on this performance are delivered with 100% conviction! Big Country were at least as good as any rock band that preceded or followed them.

  • Brilliant, best live band in the world. Saw them over 50 times live, loved every second. Neil Worksop

  • thats a proper song best listerned to at full blast !!!
