Jake Shields will be back at welterweight when he fights GSP. Cutting 40lbs in 9 weeks was a real harsh way to go, and he looked it, yet still beat a top 10 opponent.

Shields thought he was fighting Silva. The UFC decided they had fights for Silva but St Pierre has beat all the top contenders at WW and they needed Shields more down a weight.

For people who haven't seen many of Jake's fights, he finished the last nine opponents by TKO or Sub at WW before moving up to MW.

This will be an epic.

ELBOWS are the best weapon for a control fighter like Shields, not only more power, they would let him flatten Mayhem out and drop damage from 10 inches. No Elbows= bottom man more room.

Against Hendo if 10- 20% of the 300 punches were elbows, ref would stop it.

Just watched GSP vs Hardy, a mid level Purple Belt. He had his back, side and full mount to many times to count only to be pulled off or swept.

I really think Jake Shields would eat George alive.

After winning 8 straight by TKO or Subs, Shields went the distance with BJJ Black Belt Mayhem Miller, Miller has 13 subs and ain't been stopped in over 7 years. Shields dominated on the ground and landed 109 punches to 34 from Miller.

It wasn't Shields best fight but it was better than GSP vs Hardy

a lot of it is strength too... esp. if you're doing a brute submission, like a guillotine or a rear naked choke. mashing the buttons goes off of the fighters strength attribute, the stick goes off of submission skills. mashing buttons has a way better chance of succeeding... esp. if the fighter's strong.
