The adjustable idea is a great thing for fall restraint, however in a fall situation the adjustable grab mechanism could shred the rope. Nothing beats proper planning and risk assessments prior to undertaking any sort of high risk work to prevent an accident rather than simply relying on a safety device to kick in.

A couple of weeks ago there was an accident in Seattle where a worker fell, while wearing his harness, lanyard and linegrab. However he "Death Gripped" his linegrab while he was falling. He ended up falling 8 stories, riding his safety line all the way down the building.
