Actually, atheistic/irreligious regimes (like Mao, Stalin, Lenin, Pol Pot, etc.) killed more people in the last century alone than religious regimes have throughout all of mankind's history.
Mao - 49 to 78 million
Stalin - 23 million
Lenin - 2 or 3 million
Pol Pot - 1.7 million
So I can't see how ending religion would make the world more peaceful. Wouldn't that just mean MORE atheistic/irreligious regimes?
