  • Worst cover I have ever heard. I like TFL but this blows.

  • aaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwfuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuulllll

  • the intro drum fill..when the beat drops..pure FUNK. a worthy cover in my opinion.

  • oh, this is just fantastic

  • It's peaches singing great gig in the sky! the girl who sings "fuck the pain away"! It's a cover people, they didn't try to do it the same. in this version of "great gig in the sky" the sky is on FIRE!

  • I love this.

Of course, nothing can destroy the original Pink Floyd song, but... you must admit, this isn't too shabby, especially since it was done by The Flaming Lips.

At least it's not like Miley Cyrus's version of Smell's Like Teen Spirit *shivers.*

  • And this is how you destroy a song

  • @bueninvento1 when you're on this much acid I don't think you can 'destroy' anything

  • This has to be the most terrible cover I've ever heard

    AND I FUCKING LOVE IT

  • really good cover

  • No no no with the greatest respect NO!!!!!

  • first time I listened to this version, I was all like >:o

but then I listened to it again later, and I was like =D

  • I LOVE this version! Wonderful re-imagining of the original! It's a bit weirder. Don't get me wrong, the original will always win in my heart. Clare Torry made the song what it is, but Peaches can bring it too, even if her voice is distorted on the track. To me, the distortion resembles the disconnect that's present when your spirit leaves the world, whether you're ready for it or not. She sounds like she's not ready, and that puts a more interesting spin on the feel of this version.

  • fuck the naysayerz!

  • tremendo cover

  • i may not like it as much as the original, but you have to give props to this guy for reaching those notes.

  • @AxDeafeningxSilence its a woman

  • i have to throw up

  • it sounds like someones trodden on a copy of dark side... having said that i like it

  • i accidentally found this, its terrible. no offence to whoever likes it.

  • @mattmachines1 Nobody cares about your stupid snobby opinions. Can you please just let music fucking be music?? it is all beautiful in it's own way, if you truly are a fan of music you would see this for what it is and not say that "it's terrible" why don't you make a cover of this song matt? do you think you can do better? Yeah I didn't think so, now get your head out of your ass and open your mind a little. God damn people like you are so lost.

  • @gingrsrcool Hey, he gave his honest opinion.

  • cheap and sleazy

  • This kind of sucked compared to the original.

  • @781230xy You're free to think that, but at least it's something new and interesting.

  • drugs + this song = yes.

  • I actually prefer this to the original. Whereas the original is soft and lovely, this is gritty and somehow more realistic. I could hear this played in a garage and enjoy it.

  • @NinjaJedi More realistic? What does that mean? it sounds more like real music?

  • @celsius233 Less dreamlike, I guess. More pained. All music is real music. I think Floyd's is more of this sort of dreamlike thing, where it feels like you're ascending through the clouds. This is more pained, like it's a struggle. Still ascending to wherever lies next, but saying goodbye to everything that made life worth it while you're at it. You want to move on, but you don't want to be torn away from it all.

  • @thewriter1008 I guess that sort of makes sense. Interesting that you say the song makes you think of ascending through clouds. Have you ever played the original album while watching The Wizard Of Oz? Because this song just happens to play over the shots of the house flying away on the tornado.

  • Great cover! They succeeded to make an new version of that incredible song. That's really not easy, and the best way to fail was to try to make like the Floyd, what they didn't do, hopefully.

  • woooah! this is sick! remember when suddenly the vocals kicked in and it got wild?

  • My only real annoyance with the album is that the spoken voices aren't as subtle as they should be.

    Aside from that, FUCK YEAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH

  • @SCPH7503 I agree. I like the album as a whole, but I think they could have done better with the spoken parts. On DSOTM, the voices sound so sincere and almost ghostly, but on this they sound a bit forced.

  • @amaddb04 Because the voices from the original were real answers to questions from interviews and they were the actual people answering them.

  • Thing is I find the original tiring to listen to as well, was kind of hoping for this to be a bit stranger.

  • In my opinion, this isn't a cover, it is a beautiful reinterpretation of Floyd's original work. If you dont like it, dont listen to it, but personally I think it is fantastic and I dont understand how im dumb for thinking so

  • in most all the music on this kinda remake is not a music at all.

  • I have to find this O_O

  • This whole album sound very abrasive. There is way too much compression and distortion being used. It takes away from the dreamy aspect of the original work. Considering the Flaming Lips themselves have dream-pop/space rock elements in theri own music, it's disappointing. Then again, it is a re-invention, as un-necessary as it may be. I think it should have been left as more of a novelty for live shows than being released as a recorded work. Too bold of a move in my mind.

  • @mushushu78 Haha, I think these guys have made bolder moves. I like what they did with it. It does have a compressed sound, but that's kind of their thing, you know? I guess we just view this album differently. That being said, I like your comment. It's nice to see people actually bringing in valid arguments without just saying things like "omg fuck this band omg they are not as good as pink floyd omg."

  • Inascoltabile

  • inascotabile

  • I really don't get how some people think this album somehow ruines the Original. I would consider myself a bigger Floyd fan than a Lips Fan...but every song I've heard from this album is really good. The original still stands for what it is, untarnished by contemporary avant-garde rockers. Everyone covers everyone all the time. At least these guys put some thought into it.

  • pink floyd version is to flaming lips version as good trip is to bad trip. not because the flaming lips version is "bad" its just way more haunting i think. which makes it beautiful in its own right in a dark kind of way. thats what i got from it at least.

  • i preffer easy star all stars´ version

  • Brilliant!

  • Pointless. Slavishly copies the original.

  • Trolls gonna hate.

  • @k1ssk1ng People who listen true and good music, yes, they are gonna hate this.

  • @N7Space Or close minded idiots who think that there's such a thing as "good" music and think that they're interpretation of jiggly air (which is what music is, that's all it is) is better than someone elses.

  • Interesting...

  • This has really grown on me with subsequent listens.

Love Rollins' take on the spoken word elements.

  • Hahahahaha What is this???

  • God my ears are bleeding

  • This was a really enjoyable cover, as is the whole Flaming Lips rendition of Dark Side of the Moon.... I actually think I enjoyed it more in the retrospect of Pink Floyd being my favourite band for years.

    Haters gonna hate.

  • Nicely done! As much as I love the original, this is something fresh and cool - instead of kinda boring "let's play Pink Floyd" covers.

  • I love covers, just not this one

  • I fuckin' love it. It's not blasphemy, just progress.

  • they took this cd chopped out the guitar solos and missed the togetherness the album had it was a giant with common key changes and reprisals, this is trash

  • NO PLEASE

  • Covering a song so it sounds exactly like the original isn't hard at all. Covering a song so it sounds like your own takes some real talent.

  • ...what

  • yall just need to calm the fuck down

the only people who have a right to say anything like that is PINK FLOYD THEMSELVES obviosuly its not a fucking problem

  • shit me what a load of rubish floyd rule and this is just nonsense

  • Wow, Peaches doing the Great gig. That's already a punch in the face. The first part is like SM hardcore to the Love story of the original (even if it is about death). This isn't only a salute to Pink Floyd's masterpiece, but also to better times.

  • Is a nice cover, at least original. I prefer this than the copy-paste Dream Theater cover thought.

  • Shit. It's not a new point of view. it's a transformation of beautiful to ugly.

  • Only one thing to say: It's in my favorites list.

  • "why should i be frightened of dying"

    R.I.P. Syd Barrett

  • @neeharavi

more importantly (at least for this songs sake),

    R.I.P. Richard Wright

  • @neeharavi Syd didn't say anything on this record, but yeah.. it's sad he's dead.

  • I wish they would have varied the effects on the voice and not have it so distorted the whole time. I used to sing this song myself and did my interpretation live...but still kept in Clare Tore's original the focal point. :) I love Floyd :)

  • Well cuz the dark side is, even taken outside of context and labels, (such as psychodelic rock etc...) is such a masterpiece its like someone re-doing the Joconde and saying "oh it doesent suck, it just my interpretation", no bud, sorry u suck... everyone does compared to DaVinci, and Floyd!

  • @thec130side "it doesn't suck, it's just my interpretation" is a perfectly valid statement. and completely true. you're a cock.

  • Led Zeppelin's Dazed and Confused... that's a good cover.

  • seriously...covers aren't meant to replace the original, it just lets the bands do songs they've always liked, and fans hear new interpretations...with an OPEN MIND.

besides, i think pink floyd would, you know, encourage open mindedness...

  • @captainwinters456 Personally, I love this version. Nothing makes me happier than to see or hear something I already love taken in an unexpected new direction.

  • Holy shit! That was great.

  • I think its totally in the spirit of the original.

Peaches nails it. The glitchy echoes/reverb are like a conversation between pioneering seventies eletronics and the world we live in today.

  • Peaches. :]

  • I've never seen such bullshit, and no, this is not from a mindless fan, cause from my point of view, you blast mindless Pink Floyd fan with the logic that it's good if you know the sound of this band, wich is a mindless respond from a mindless Flaming Lips fan. The artificial/electric sound atmosphere here is just not suitable with a classical, rock influenced song.

  • I was skeptical about Peaches also, but she did very well.. Thumbs up.

  • I was a bit skeptical about Peaches being able to pull this off, but she does brilliantly.

  • Ugh. People who like this can talk to me about it being their own interpretation and blah blah blah, but imo, this is just bad. It completely butchered the original. Thumbs down from me

  • This is a tribute to a great album by one of the great bands of "our" time. Open your minds!

  • this is just horrible.... wouldnt it just be easier to just not the project at all?

  • The next time I eat some acid this album is gonna be a BIG part of it.

  • Peaches ruined this! I get what the Lips are doing. They are paying tribute to one of the most influential bands in history. Pink Floyd's version is timeless, it is incredible still to this day. To make a studio album of someone else's material, to me is lazy. The lips are just out to make money period. Yeah I can see how some may think this is good, but it is not the best way to educate the young about music. Now some kid will hear this and say, "Flaming Lips!" When it really is not..

  • @PirateArrtie have you even read the album title. its not a tribute its there own interpetation now isnt it. have you ever listened to all along the watch tower - jimi hendrix. it was written by bob dylan. are you saying jimi hendrix is lazy. one song, two interpetations. man i wish people werent so ignorant. maybe you should try to appriciate pink floyd in a bluegrass theme.Rebuild the Wall - Luther Wright and the Wrongs. doesnt sound like a tribute to me. seriously ignorant.

  • @PirateArrtie have you even read the album title. its not a tribute its there own interpetation now isnt it. have you ever listened to all along the watch tower - jimi hendrix. it was written by bob dylan. are you saying jimi hendrix is lazy? one song, two interpetations. man i wish people werent so ignorant. maybe you should try to appriciate pink floyd in a bluegrass theme.Rebuild the Wall - Luther Wright and the Wrongs. doesnt sound like a tribute to me. seriously ignorant.

  • @comanchegfp The title was named that way, because of EMI rights. Also, before you go and judge someone, get your words defined. A tribute is an acknowledgement which if you know what an interpretation means. An interpretation is a conception of another's behavior. You are talking one song in Hendrix case, while I am pointing an entire album! Yeah, lazy it is. Ignorance is not being completely informed. Way to err someone for that.

  • @PirateArrtie Maybe if you actually listened to music to apprciate it instead of to crticize the work of an artist, your opinion might matter. pink floyd set the bar pretty high and the flaming lips have stood up to the legend of pink floyd with their own interpretation. Interpretation also means: the rendering of a dramatic part, music, etc., so as to bring out the meaning, or to indicate one's particular conception of it.

  • @PirateArrtie i also know how to use a dictionary. its a shame you dont use yours as wisely as you think. so if i must reword what i said: Its there own "CONCEPT" now isnt it. P.S. Jimi hendrix covered more than just 1 song. but as it is i have a life, i wont bother listing them. you know how to use a dictionary, so the internet wont be a challenge. if you choose to respond please write it down and delete it. i havent the time to put up with your... ignorance.

  • She would've sounded amazing if they didn't distort her...

  • Much of the album is good but this version of the song is an iffish song, The rest is good but this one is a bit too electronic for my taste.

  • If you guys are so against this album then you wouldn't like the Easy Star All-Stars Dub Side of The Moon even though it is a great reggae interpretation of the album.

  • fantastic cover

  • I recently realized that when DSotM will celebrate it's 100th anniversary, I'll most probably still be alive. For the love of god, this album should be covered more in the mean time.

  • Jeez, what changed so much from the blues days? It used to be looked at as respect between artists for one to cover anothers' work. How many different versions of Spoonful are there? The guys in Floyd are humble dudes, too - I'm sure they wouldn't look at their stuff as untouchable, never mind "Godlike."

  • I think both versions are wonderful in their own different way. The original Floyd version was like a journey through space, and the Lips' version is like being locked in a room with a crazy, spastic lunatic. Completely different, but both great.

  • fala sério!! destruiram a música!!

  • OMG I LOVE THIS COVER

  • Listened to Dark Side and like every cover album. I love the Flaming Lips and Pink Floyd!!!! Both are the Mutt's Nuts!!!! Have you all heard the 8-bit side of the moon. ?!?!

  • Pink Floyd for life!

  • At least they had several good albums before this.

    R.I.P

    The Flaming Lips.

  • The Spark that Bled is a song off of the album "The Soft Bulletin"

  • Any band that can make an amazing album like Yoshimi deserves the respect, and the right, to cover one of rock's masterpieces. If you think this is weird and distorted and not worthy of Floyd, go listen to Ummagumma!

  • Yoshimi sucks.

  • Damn right weasel. I agree

  • Listen ! I love the Flaming Lips, and I love Pink Floyd too. I have great respect for the original Dark Side of the Moon, but these covers they did are good in their own right. They're both great, if some of you people would listen to a damn Flaming Lips album you wouldn't be so outraged. The Flaming Lips are fucking crazy, and bizzare. Just as much as Floyd was when they were first around. If you don't like it, leave. Nobody made you listen to it. They didn't try to remake it and do it better.

  • @deegl73 and don't forget some dreemy distortion too clever clogs :)

  • Can't wait to see these guys at bonnaroo! this song is the best of darkside of the moon cover. Nothing ever beat the orginal. But this was Bad Freakin ass...

  • Holy fuck when it changed it scared me. Also I agree that you shouldnt compare. This was awesome for its style

  • shit, i didn't know peaches had pipes like that.

  • The whole thing is a novelty and a parody. The Dark Side of the Moon by The Chipmunks would have about the same merit. Nobody who buys this album will be listening to it down the road or remembering it as a work of art. Having said that, who gives a crap if they want to cover the album? It's not like they anything better to do with their marginal talents.

  • @superhula Yeaahhhhhh there...considering this is the band that had arguably one of the best albums of the 2000's with Yoshima Battles The Pink Robots and maintaining a critically respected career since '83...but hey once they don't have anything better to do as you pointed out, they can hang out with your marginally talented ass during that time.

  • Fair enough..you toddle off and listen to Pink Floyd, and we'll stay here and listen to The Flaming Lips. Later, I'll probably listen to Pink Floyd too. It is ok to like both of them.

  • Awful...simply Awful.

  • Richard Wright is rolling over in his grave with this. Interesting, I guess, but ridiculous and pretentious, in my opinion. Feh. Oh, and Clare Torry belted it out much better than this "auto-tuned" Peaches.

  • Not auto-tuned, but you're clearly missing the point.

I agree Clare Torry belted it very nicely, but to me Peaches sounds rawer. Did you know that when Clare did the first take, she sang "ooh baby, baby, yeah, yeah" etc and they had to tell her to sound "like an intrument"?

So what if Peaches' vocal is distorted? What are you, the Production Police?

  • I actually found I enjoyed this album far more when I stopped comparing it to Pink Floyd's original and appreciated the music for what it was.

  • @mythicaljake DITTO.

  • I hate all the assholes who say this is nothing to the original; you can't compare them, they are both very different styles, especially the vocals. I personally love Pink Floyd, but this album is awesome at what it does; which is reinterpreting Pink Floyd, not trying to pair with it.

So to all you haters, please go die in a fire.

  • exactly. why would you want a cover album to sound exactly like the original?

  • hell ya what he said!

  • why even bother...seriously.

  • i like this album....but i dont like the cover...i dont know, the original is so neat and this is .....not

  • The Great Gig just fell out of The Sky.

  • Wow! Listen to Peaches belt that out! She's awesome.

  • ahhh i need more

i dont have itunes where i live, we are not allowed to buy from it

    please upload more!!

  • Both versions are incredible in their own way.

  • .....come on guys.....we all love the original but this is really a great album! they're not trying to "reproduce"...they're really reinterpreting the dark side of the moon from their point of view! I think they did a great job!

  • Jesus... I love Pink Floyd, and I love the orignial, don't get me wrong.. but what's with all these Floyd-purists who say "It's an untouchable masterpiece!" and "Thou shalt not cover the Floyd!".. what bollocks, this is a brilliant cover, if anyone knows The Flaming Lips they'd know that this is very much their style! And who says bands can't cover other bands? No matter how 'Godlike' etc they are.. Love this version :D

  • At first. I didn't care much for this cover version. But when I herd henry rollins was doing the speaking parts, I was like F*** yeah, I'm there.

Great cover, but nothing to the original.

  • @FranzLotus I completely agree. Pink Floyd has to be declared as my favorite band.. it has been for my whole life.... but.. recently I've been loving The Flaming Lips. I'm incredibly excited that they made this cover. When I was younger and less mature I would have been a bit against this. This clearly has Floyd spirit. In fact.. I'm not sure if this.. but I feel like The Flaming Lips were partially inspired by Floyd.... Correct me if I'm wrong, plox.

  • @FranzLotus Thou Shalt not cover the floyd is one of the ten commandments and you are breaking it you evil motherfucker

  • @gaythanbenderson I hope that's sarcasm there... :P

  • @FranzLotus i love pink floyd. i love flaming lips. This cover is good except 1 thing. it seems overly done in certain segments which kind of destroys it for me. Keeping it simple would have been really awesome.

  • @klippit I get what you mean but it's just Flaming Lips's style coming through. What I like about this cover is that they've done more than just cover it, they've really made it their own

  • @FranzLotus u know what... i am beginning to like it on more hearings. that entire album seems to be bizarrely awesome.

  • WHAT THE FUCK!?

  • yeah its better than floyd oooooooooo

  • die.

  • uh no

  • NONONONONONOONONONONO

i cant bealive it, its not a bad production but i think nothing has comparation with pink floyd....

  • As hit and miss as I find the Flaming Lips, this is absolutely amazing.

  • you should listen to original version it's more than "absolutly amazing"

  • It's pretty decent, not my favourite song by them

  • people are outraged that this album came out. does that mean people should never cover each other? you dont have to like the music but dont say theyre ruining the dark side. ITS A MUTHAFUCKIN COVER ALBUM

  • I think they shoulda let Drozd sing it to begin with...

IJUSTCAN'TFIGUREOUTHOWHEDIDIT at the show NYE. >:O

  • Instead of the Wizard of Oz, this goes well with Avatar.

  • Avatar is fucking overrated.

  • The vocals make me cringe. Why try and screw up this masterpiece?

    BE ORIGINAL!

  • althought you have 3 points down i agree with you.

    Nowadays anyone is original

  • ...they are being original

  • I'd never thought it was possible to play this song in another way from the original! this album is amazing!

  • and dont forget to fuck america
