@Multitrick100 no id say it was Undertaker or Brett Hart. it wasnt until the 1hr iron man match that Michaels really became a true #1. for more then half the 90s he was with marty janety or idiots like that. Hart getting screwed in Canada also blew Shawn Michaels up even more
@the2009yanks actually you are wrong vince said he could retain it that nigh return on raw and drop the title to someone else due to the real life rivalry with Hart and Michaels. then the screwjob happened. Then when Bret was in the locker room Undertaker brought vince in bret said get him out of here before i'm done vince didn't leave and got hit in the face. At no point did vince ever say you will drop this title at the pay per view.
allot of people will point to stone cold's emergence in 1998 as the beginning of the great times in the wwf and maybe it was but 1997 was perhaps the single greatest year for me...top villains hbk and hitman..top hero undertaker...birth of the new heel heart foundation and dx...awesome stuff.
Just my opinion but either the screwjob or Bret/Taker SummerSlam 97 should've been number one. The screwjob is one of the best angles in the history of wrestling, and Michaels hitting Taker with the chair at SummerSlam led to an awesome storyline and the debut of Hell in a Cell.
the "montreal screw job" should be no. 1, never happened before and is one of those moments that will never happen again. unless of course you watch TNA...
You know what's fucking annoying?? Listening to Breaking Benjamin over the announcers in the various clips. Not that I have anything against Breaking Benjamin...it's just annoying and unnecessary.
actually 1997 was the greatest year for wrestling, I think these are some of the best championship changes of all-time,I allways still get goose bumps when I hear the line "The boy hood dream has come true"
@DJolim if you noticed i ended the senctence after was the best chapinship changes and then said the boy hood dream thing , i do relise that hbk beat hart in 1996
It's still a title change, no amount of controversy changes that. The title changes hands, ergo, it's a title change. Only a brainless moron could think it wasn't a title change
Shawn Micheals greatest match was Wrestlemania 12 after that he just refused to job. He only allowed himself to lose once from wrestlemania 12 till Survivor Series 96 and only after he made sure it would be a tainted loss by having Sid Eudy hit mcheals with a camera a half dozen times. He wasnt even going to put over Austin at WM 14 until Taker threaten to beat his ass
@MagnaCarta80 yeah it was you idiot. hart was the champ going into the match.hbk won it from him. no intelligent person could think the montreal screwjob wasn't a title change
@gamelvr1 You're the idiot. how can you even justify it as a "Great title change" it was a screwjob that made the business look bad. It broke Kayfabe on live television and was not a work. So calling it a title change is an insult to anyone who knows better . That wasn't even really a match
@MagnaCarta80 I never said it was a great title change you retard. The fact of the matter is, you made the imbecilic statement of saying it wasn't a title change. I merely correcting your imbecilic statement
i don't regret barely paying attention or caring these years... if you look at the tag team changes, you got 2 real tag teams, Godwins and LOD, and a contrived Owen and Smith, and this is when tag teams were on the way out and you put two big stars together - dude love & Stone cold, Austin & HBK - you had Austin & Undertaker, lately in WWE they broke up Legacy, Hart Dynasty, The Uzo's without even developing them, that's why TNA is interesting to a degree.. now Sheamus & Ortin? Miz &Truth?
@LockDown2341 title wa supposed to change jands anyways bret didnt wanna lose it but vince said too bad..when you leave a company you lose your last match..bret didnt wanna lose it period he wanted to hand the title over the next night on raw...HBK was supposed to win that night reguardless screw job or not
'97 Survivor Series - HBK wins the title is #1 by a LOT. I would put Austin over Owen at Summerslam at #2 (which is currently unranked) and Sid over Bret Hart on RAW at # 3 as it signaled his heel turn. Then it's a lot of opinion but I would put Rocky over HHH, LOD over Godwinns and Undertaker over Sid in the next 3.
When Mainevents meant some thing . . People coudlnt wait to c the matches . . The era when every 1 was mad about wrestling . . nd now huh who was main eventing last years wrestle mania ??? Fucking joke . .
I miss this era unlike most fans I don't think the attitude era was the best. The 1 hour Raws were great and we had the 2 greatest of all time HBK and Bret Hart. I admit the WM were not as good but In your houses were so much better then your Backlash, Judgement Days etc
wait a minute #7 sid was already champion i believe that match was at the december 1997 in your house....sid won only 2 wwe titles one vs hbk at survivor series and the 2nd vs bret hart but it was during a cage match on raw the night after the in your house final four pay per view
@DETROIT2MILWAUKEE No Sid retained against Bret in December 1996. But won the title from Bret then night after Bret one it at the February 1997 In Your House PPV.
@1000sidney uhh shawn lost to Bret like 1,000 times. hell he even lost to Bret at the 1992 Survivor Series, so no, Shawn has lost to Bret plenty of times. In fact, Shawn only beat Bret twice.
@TheLegacyofWrestling I was talking about wwf title. No one cares about the intercontinential title especially today. They dont even have a clear definition of what that stupid belt represents. Once Austin forfeited it in 1997 , it became garbage.
I still wonder if Shawn was supposed to drop the belt to Bret Hart. It just doesn't make sense in terms of the future of the company. It was clear that Austin and Shawn Michaels were the future. Bret Hart was getting old and the Undertaker was also due to be champion, so why put the belt on Bret. It doesn't help the company and delays Austin from getting the title or his rise to the top.
@TheLegacyofWrestling no, it has always been hbk to pass the torch to austin. bret had made up his mind bout going to wcw way before survivor series 97, that would be stupid to have planned so much ahead of time. sure, it was thrown around as an idea or speculation, but it was never meant to be.
