  • My dream bass. Someday.

  • I have a question about the bass amp, how many watts is it?

  • is this bass good for punk rock music?

  • @archzurfer If it works for you, then it works...there are no rules (especially with PUNK!!!!)...it's a great, versatile bass! You should go and put a bunch of basses in your hands and choose a few that you like (that you like the basic looks and features of) and then do the blindfolded test...what feels and sounds best to you is the winner.

  • Would you guys recommend a Sterling Ray34 or a Fender Standard Jazz?

  • @cursedswordsman Which one feels and sounds best to you? They are both good basses...it's an apple vs. orange comparison...they are different but each is good.

  • only the bass (Ernie Ball - Music Man - Sting Ray) is amazing... nothing more

  • How is the neck compared to a jazz bass? I'm wondering of buying a stingray myself

  • @Slappinstyle It's more like a P...the Sterlings are smaller...more like the Jazz...and they have more switching capabilities with the extra 3 way selector (both coils in series, parallel, and one single coil by itself)...they are one of my favorites!

  • @greengtrs All right, Thanks! I was looking at a Sterling by MM Stingray, fairly cheap.

  • @greengtrs Sterling Ray34 I meant :)

  • Fender on Steroids right there.

  • @redhook4 That's pretty much the whole idea behind the MusicMan basses!

  • BURRROOO!!!!!

  • @elmaspeton Read the video description...I went above and beyond what other eBayers do...to show that it works better than pictures alone could...and many, many more people can and have seen this video to help them hear what these basses (CAN) sound like (and of course a better player on a better amp could make it sound better) but still you feel the need to be a jackass...this video wasn't about showing off my skills (or lack of) but if you feel you can do better then post a video of yourself.

  • Nice BASS @demomkr

  • Nice BASS

  • Warwick and music man are from the best bass brands. I think a music man bass costs more than 1000 euros.

  • How much do these things sell for?

  • @musicman1783 $1000.00 (USD) Used (give or take) depending on the week and whether the moon is full or not and maybe even color and condition...or any custom options or upgrades or modifications...case, etc...new price depends on where you are and who the dealer is and how much they discount (or not)...

  • I've been lookin' for a new bass and was checking out a Stingray, I found one used for 1200 dollars, so it's worth the money?

  • @TheSpazzarro Seems a bit high unless it is in mint condition with the case (and is a great example of what these are supposed to be...some sound dead, others are more lively...I chose this one out of like 8 of them from memory...). They are worth (all) the money though if you get a good one...

  • @LegoBricKing Well I just checked out your channel and (it looks great!) you seem to be a RIck fan...I love them too but they are more limited than the Stingray in what it can do...I actually prefer the Sterling (it's really one of my favorite basses, bar none and if you like the Rick necks, you would probably like it too as they are smaller/slimmer...and they are even more versatile electronics-wise). Please check out my latest video and leave a comment of encouragement for my son...it's legos!

  • @LegoBricKing If I had to choose one, I would choose the Stingray, but they are both good and different (and generally of high quality...and even somewhat consistent, but still no two are exactly alike)...it's like a pineapple vs. some grapes...both are fruit (and I like them both...and they each can supply a "serving" of "fruit"), but they taste different...and depending on your mood, you may want one over the other one day and antother day you may want the other...or you may want them both!

  • I have a second-hand Squier P-bass that I am perfectly happy with. A guitar is a pretty simple thing. Overpaying for the name is dumb. If it feels comfortable to play and you get the sound you want it's a good instrument.

  • @MarshmallowCreep To quote Sheryl Crow..."if it makes you happy, it can't be that bad..."!

  • @greengtrs

ok,i have a question,i might be able to get a music man stingray bass, but i won't be able to try it,and it doesn't come with a hardcase or anything, should i take this chance or what,my teacher "might" be able to get it for me,its also cheaper if i order it from my teacher

  • @ejdbk I always recommend putting your hands on it if at all possible, if not, try to get it from someone who really cares about getting you a great bass...not just a name, but a great example of that name...not every EB/MM Stingray bass is the same as the next one...some pieces of wood wind up sounding better than another. Can you return it if you don't like it? Why no case? Do you mind it being beat up, chipped, scuffed, scratched, etc...that sort of stuff doesn't bother me...just saying...

  • @greengtrs

how to tell a fake stingray?

  • @ejdbk I didn't realize that there was a problem with that these days...there are OLP's (Officially Licensed Product...a brand that bought the rights to make chap copies). There is no easy answer there...you have to KNOW what you are looking for...bottom line, you need to be able to trust who you are buying it from...

  • @greengtrs

    shit..........ok,thnx anyway

  • @ejdbk I didn't mention it before because shipping to Egypt is very expensive and there are size restrictions, but if you want I could probably find you one, but again without a case...as the case puts it over the size limitation and it would have to be sent dis-assembled...no big deal, just a few bolts on the neck body joint...let me know if you are interested, your price range, and what color, fingerboard, pickups (one or two), controls, and anything else that you need/want...send a message...

  • @greengtrs

i live in abu dhabi...what about that?

  • @ejdbk Same thing...it has to be a small box...or the shipping, if I can even find anybody (like Fed Ex or UPS), will be outrageously expensive...like probably $500 or so...maybe more...

  • @greengtrs

500+the price of the stingray(how much will a black one like in the video would cost)?

  • @ejdbk I'll look into it this week and see if i can find any...then I'll let you know your options.

  • @XRockKing9495

ok,now what about serial numbers, are they always located on the bridge, does it start with a certain number\letter?

  • If the instrument is well-built and sounds good who cares about "miniscule" "dings" and "pick scrapes"? Some morons pay hundreds extra for "road-worn" basses that look like someone threw them down the stairs. Actually, maybe I'm wrong. Does anyone really buy those fake antiqued basses?

  • @MarshmallowCreep I don't get most of that either...especially when they want them "new in the box" and/or "not a floor model"...or in "mint condition" if they are used?!? I will admit that the high end Fender Custom Shop Relic's (that kind of started it all) do sound really great/better than normal. I am proud of the natural wear I put on my instruments! Check out the backround photo on my channel page...that's my natural wear on the bridge of one of the most collectible PRS guitars around...

  • i have a squier p bass,i have been playing for like 2 months,i will upgrade soon(is it early?).i am going to join an amateur metal band,so i need a better bass for stage performances,i am either getting this bass or a fender p bass,i am going to try them both out,idk why,but i hope i like the musicman stingray more,it sounds awesome

    which one is better?

  • @ejdbk It is more about which one you feel like playing at that moment in time...as sometimes you will prefer the one and other times the other...at least that is how it is with me. They are both (or can be...not every instrument is always great, even by the best companies...no 2 pieces of wood are identical and quality control, etc.) excellent basses. It's never too early to want the good stuff...do you think you are going to stick with it? The amp is more important...maybe upgrade there first.

  • @greengtrs

    i have a pretty good amp actually(laney)

but yeah, you are right,i will try both basses first, i think i will end up buying stingray though

  • @ejdbk Just saying a $300-400 bass will sound better through a $1500ish amp than the other way around. It's hard to go wrong with a Stingray though (but know that I chose this one out of about 8 from memory...they all sound different and some are more lively or resonant than others).

  • @greengtrs im trying to make a band but you basists like hidein america what do you all live in the mountains or something can you help me find a basist or give me ideas on how

  • @WillBilly2FistMcG33 One way to go is asking a guitarist if he wants to play the bass for the band and get him a crappy 100 dollar ibanez or something. Almost every rock bass line is incredibly easy. One band that used this idea was the chili peppers (flea used to be a trumpet player.)

  • @ejdbk

look for a fender prcision lyte it is a very cool bass and its cheap

  • i love the musicman basses there a smooth sounding bass and i have my action low on it im not really agressive player but i can get a nice attack sound out of my musicman

  • you sound like dennis miller... nice demo

  • its tone says slap and pop me or i cut ur nuts off!!!

  • i didn't see any fingerprints on the bass, but I did see a sperm stain... x)

  • @ jonpcap, that is the truest statement in the history of You Tube.

  • I've had both stingrays single and double humbucker, I'll take the single ,even though you can play the HH on the back pick up only it doesn't sound the same as single H.

  • @TRJBASS More wood = better tone...I like the single pickup version too...they got the position just right although I like the Sterling better (probably because of the size, but also because of)...the extra sounds from the 3 way selector...

  • how much was it? where can i find a classic stingray for under £1500?

  • @TechSmack This one sold for about $1000 (USD) on eBay...so try looking there (on eBay)...

  • nice bass man and do you maybe know how much the music man stingray double humbucker lefty is? because i wanna buy that one but i can't find it how much it is so maybe you know it?

    already thanks;)

  • @000remco000 i dont think they sell lefty stingrays, if im not mistaken.

  • @rafamine1995 This one went for around $1000...they go for between $700 and $1600 lately depending on color, condition, year, etc...more for Vintage ones...

  • Funny, i had my Stingray's neck customized. it's now the same specs as a 73 Jazz bass...super thin and awesome.

  • it's huge !

  • this thing killed steve irwin

  • @MolesMalone Awwww...crikey mate...that's not funny...

  • does the pickguard really has a black screw as a stock? or it's just rusted?

  • @bahistarugo I can't remember...I think they were chrome and that it is just the lighting that makes it look dark.

  • Jesus I think I am gonna read reply s in this video for the rest of my life

  • The bass is rented.

  • @3DEC3 Work on your English...something is missing in the translations here and I really don't care whether you like this bass or not...it's just one choice among many...many people do and I'm sure many people don't...that's why there are so many brands and choices...this one was/is well built and very versatile...but you can be as opinionated as you want to be. Have a nice day!

  • @3DEC3 What are you talking about?

  • The noises sound stock.

  • @3DEC3 Yes! All the noises are completely stock!

  • ahhhh k thx bud

  • No i mean like how much was the bass itself?

  • @ypagexxxx I really can't remember...I think it went for about $1000.00

  • How much?

  • @ypagexxxx Both the amp and the bass are long gone...

  • the tone of the bass sucks tough

  • @yovioleatuzorramadre everybody is entitled to their own opinion...and that's why there are so many different manufacturers and models to choose from...everybody winds up with something they like...but I have to say that there are probably a few million people who would disagree with you on this...

  • Of course, Ernie Ball MusicMan is like MTV, commercial as fuck, everybody love this bass, I don't, In fact, I think I hate it, for me this one only works for funky stuff which is cool.

  • @yovioleatuzorramadre These basses do a whole lot more than commercial and funk...you just have to open your mind and ears...yes a lot of people use them for that, but they do so much more. And it's ok if you hate it now...you're tastes may change in a few years and you may come to like them later...I have been very opinionated in my past and have come to love a lot of great instruments I once hated. And I have actually pissed off people for using some instruments in a not traditional manner...

  • @greengtrs I used to hate Music Mans too until i actually played one. I had a 91 fretless stingray single buck. whoever stole it is probably enjoying it :[

  • @greengtrs i agree, i can give you a long list of metal bassists who use this thing and i know some other bassists who also use it

  • @CrankTheBass98 I would't mind a list man =) Because i don't know a whole lot of bassist that uses it

  • @thodamned okay the bassists of Atreyu, Distrubed, Avenged Sevenfold, Metallica, Alexisonfire, Three Days Grace, Bullet For My Valentine, and Ozzy Osbourne all use them. I really thought there were more but still I'd say thats still a good amount

  • @CrankTheBass98 and by the way i was just looking for the metal players, i can list you more haha

  • @CrankTheBass98

Thanks =) That is alot anyway, when it is only metal players. And also the fact that musicman basses aren't so known for their metal =)

Add Deadsoul tribe and psychotic waltz to the list aswell =)

  • @yovioleatuzorramadre Have you tried one? I use mine for funk, soul, pop, rock, progressive metal and more...Stingrays are killer basses, especially the HH versions

  • @yovioleatuzorramadre yeah.. like what greengtrs said.. ur perspective changes .. cuz last time i used to like basses that r "metal like" (reffering to genre) ...but when i saw my favorite band at teh concert, i realized, the bassist was using this kind of bass, and it sounds freaking awesome...so..yeah.. xP

    ALESANA FTW xDD

  • @yovioleatuzorramadre I believe they are junk too!

  • a great bass , looks very good and sounds very good, even the name, a stingray is very cool. conclusion, one of the coolest bass guitars.

  • what king of amp would you suggest for gigs and that is affordable?

  • @proshotknight What kind of price range and for what kind of music/sound?

  • Now WHY would anybody in their right mind want to get rid of a great bass like that. Your friend must be nuts.

  • I think it was the weight more than anything...it was heavy...and he wears them low...he misses it though!

  • How much does this cost ?

  • You mean used right? It depends on the condition and color...this one went for about $1000 USD.

  • u are really good i might buy a bass if my mom lets me but i need to know what makes the jazz bass better then the musicman stingray that u have? oh and i heard u shouldnt buy the Squire Affinity Series

  • Nothing makes the jazz bass better than a Stingray. Period.

  • @CPVamp

the affinity basses are fine for a first bass. if you can get a new neck then its a great bass all around. but for a starter bass the affinity p bass is fine.

  • @CPVamp afinitys are fine for a first bass- don't get a stingray or a jazz bas for your first one as you won't fully appreciate the tone or anything- get a middle of the range lower priced bass & work your way up :P

  • grat bass... everyone loves a good stingray :-)

  • Lol why show all the scratches and bumps? For a bass of this price I wouldn't even care if the pickguard was half eaten up. 8D

  • What's the difference between maple and rosewood?

  • well first off maple is a light colored wood and rosewood is dark. but thats not the point, rosewood has a very warm tone compared to maple. and maple is a very bright toned wood that is much harder than rosewood.

  • well maple is light coloured wood & rosewood and is kinda brown & maple a better sound

  • maple doesnt sound better than rosewood just a bit different. I would say that maple is better for slapping and rosewood for deep tones. what do you think?

  • im getting this for my birthday but it has a maple fretboard

  • Sweet looking Bass Man !

  • You know I'm just about to get a 2006 stingray and that same amp, do you think this new SR's are just as good as the 90's stingrays??? Thanks!

  • First know that the amp is really only good for practice or a "quiet" band situation...not loud rock and roll. And this goes for just about any instrument...any brand...some are good-awesome...some are not...new ones can be great and old ones can suck...and the opposite is also true...play and judge each one individually...don't buy just on reputation...or trust your salesman to choose you a "good" one. That is what I pride myself on...and what sets me apart.

  • well thanks a lot man! it's good to know that, some people diss the new ones and I guess it's not necessarily %100 true

  • how can anyone fall in love with a jazz bass over one of these. your friend must be a certified retard or something lol

  • He's out of love with it at this point...probably going to sell it...some Jazz basses are amazing though...just like some of these are...not every one in either case is though...

  • Comment removed

  • why not both?

  • How many y pay for it?

  • Great bass, shocking amp

  • I dont care what any 1 says buying a new bass is the fucking best

  • Getting a new bass?

  • im jelouse of every single thing in the backround

  • Thanks! This backround is pretty lame compared to some of my recent ones...it changes all the time except for the amps. I had about 6 or 7 cool basses including a Stingray 5 string in the stands recently and I did upgrade the Bass amp and added a Marshall 4x12 cab. Next week I'll have 3 guitars from 1965: 2 Gibson Melody Makers and an Epiphone Olympic...almost all the guitars in the backround are for sale...kind of like on deck for getting a video and listing for eBay done.

    Thanks for watching!

  • i got this same one exact same color but i got it with a maple fretboard. In my opinion its my favorite bass. =)

  • did you make up that groovy bass line?

  • Why yes I did...about a minute before I started the video...and only the first part...the rest is just spur of the moment...

    Thanks for watching!

  • gosh, you made that just before the video, so awesome!

  • i own a s.u.b. 5 music man. they're bad ass. Never settle for anything less than a music man.. the humbucker is amazing. and the look and reach of the bass is just insane. amazing basses.

  • Man, after years and years of procrastinating, I have decided to get me a Stingray, I know I am not a professional musician but what the hell, it is something that will be with me my entire life, and what the heck, even my kids (if I have them someday) could use it. It is not going to be cheap, but I´ve decided to bite the bullet. Problem now is to decide on a color, since all the models make me drool.

  • take teal gree color

  • I'll sell you mine for $850. It's a '92 model. Classic sunburst with white pick-guard, maple fret board and hard case. I have been the only owner. This was my main bass since I bought it new until about 3 years ago when I switched to Fender Jazz and Precision basses.

  • You will not regret =)

  • @lalbruiz me persionally i like natural ;)

  • @ovalman24 Wow, I had no idea this comment of mine was so old...in october 2009 I bought my Stingray, a brand new Ice Blue HS with maple neck, it is the best bass I have ever purchased, slightly bright sound but nonetheless a great bass. This one will never get away from me, I hope.

  • @lalbruiz haha aslong as you keep it well cleaned and make sure its in a nice big strong hard case and that you dont get burgaled its there for life dude ;)

  • @ovalman24 I didn´t remember I had a comment here !! I understand, and if I had a lot of money, I would purchase another one in a natural color. Anyway there is no ugly color in Musicmans, you can give me any color they put out and I would be very very happy.

  • @lalbruiz

    you're fucking right !!!

    everyone deserve a stingray ;)

  • @lalbruiz Did you get one then? What colour did you go for?!

  • Comment removed

  • @lalbruiz Ah good stuff mate, I wouldn't turn one of these down myself!

  • you fell in love with a jazz? i'd pick a ray over a jazz anyday..

  • Not me...the guy I got this from...but I like both...although I like Sterlings better than Stingrays...

    Thanks for watching!

  • why is that? I'm about to buy one of these guitars.. and can't try it..

  • This was my main bass for close to fourteen years but I have since moved to a Precision for my main bass and also use a jazz bass from time to time. These basses sound to cold and sterile to me. I guess if you are looking for a "hi-fi" sound it's good.

  • if you ask me,stingrays can cut through the mix ALOT better than jazz basses.that's one of the reasons why i like them better.and i just personally prefer the tone of a ray over a j.

  • Yes, the sound guys and engineers always loved this bass but I was never satisfied with the way it recorded. Live it was good to be heard with, but still not right. Again it lacks any kind of warmth. It's just to cold sounding, even with the bass boosted it lacks that analog warmth and punch the Fender's have in spades. Maybe it's because of the pick-up placement; too close to the bridge.

  • Just curious...did yours have a maple fingerboard?

  • Yes. Maple fingerboard and from the looks of the wood grain through the sunburst finish I'd say the body was ash. Again, very cold sounding bass.

  • The Maple board is going to make it a brighter sounding bass...mind you, even a Rosewood board won't ever make a MusicMan as warm as say a Warwick, but a Jazz bass with Maple is generally going to be pretty bright too...but it all depends on the actual woods' tone and no two pieces are alike...which is why I say I chose this one from many which is how I always buy instruments...never on reputation...only the good ones that have the sound (I like).

  • wht d you think about warwick basses, in specific standart pro line ?

  • true it is a cold sounding bass, but it's all in the way you play it and how you have the treb, mid, and bass set, you can make it sound as warm/soft/cold/warm as you want (i should know i have one)

  • can anyone tell me how to eq my sting ray to get its famous sound???!!

  • That will depend on your volume and on your amp "rig"...but start with the bass and treble up and the mids somewhat pulled for at home low volume fun...I myself like to boost the mids as well as a little bit of bass and treble...play with it to suit your tastes...fresh strings help but some guys like old dead sounding strings...lots of 10" speakers (and a horn) help more than anything...

  • Indeed, gerry used alot of precisions, most notibly the cream one with the red scratch plate, but in his later work (Like with nine below zero) and the gallagher tributes he uses a black music man.

Its funny, with the P bass he allways used a plec, but with this he fingers!

  • This is one of the amazing things about YouTube...you can learn something new everyday! I had no idea about Nine Below Zero...what a great band! He probably used the pic with the Fender to get a little extra clarity where the MM has plenty of that and he can warm out the sound with his fingers...either way, he sounds great as usual...he plays every note that needs to or can be played and doesn't step all over the songs doing it.

Thanks for turning me onto them (NBZ)!

    And thanks for watching!

  • Thats ok man,

I havnt really listened to Nine Below zero that mutch as im so mutch of a rory adict!!!

Stingrays are my dream basses, but as i am a typical musician (And a musican that doest play mainstream music) im on a budget and only have my mexican precision.

Stingrays can handle anything, Picing, Fingering, And best of all...SLAP!

  • ok cuz i have the 5 string single P/U

  • sounds like a guitar amp

  • Kinda...it was really only a practice amp...

  • Thats just like Gerry Mcavoys Bass...

(Rory Gallaghers bass player, one of the best in the world!)

  • I'm a huge Rory fan...I only remember Gerry playing a Fender P-Bass...but I'll go indulge myself in a few days worth of Rory videos anyways...just to be sure...just kidding...I listen to him all the time anyways...you should be able to pick out his influence on me in a lot of my guitar videos.

  • that sounds really good. so smooth.

  • Thanks!

  • u gotta pop only just on the fret board nd slap jus behind it but as yuu sed yu are a guitarist so iull forgive youu ^^

  • I don't think I will ever be able to slap and pop on bass well (or dance well for that matter) but at least I play with my fingers...and don't really sound like a guitar player when I'm playing bass...oh well...if I can just find some time to jam and have fun (when nobody is looking and being critical) maybe I'll improve...and I'll try to watch some of my favorite players and pick up a bass now and again (which I almost never do except to shoot a video).

Thanks for watching and having mercy!

  • mate im not patronising you sorry if you thought that just givin some tips and i use my fingers aswelland i know what you're saying it took me ages to get a good grip and slappin and poppin lucky for funk less is more ha x

  • SOUNDS SHITTY THAT MM!

  • Probably more due to my own playing and the amp I'm playing it through!

  • the thing with the mm's and the fenders is, that they all have dead spots on the neck! MISERABLE BASSES!

  • Yeah! Every time I listen to music (and the majority of anything you are going to listen to has either an MM or a Fender bass on it), that's all I can think of...listen to all those dead spots! (lol...I'm being sarcastic...). I've sold just about every high end Bass made and while they are nice and I can fully appreciate them...I like the personality of the Fender's and MM's the best...although I love a good (higher end) Warwick too!

    Thanks for watching anyways!

  • thats if u have tiny fingers

  • Marshall bass amps are crap!

  • Every marshall solid state amp is crap.

At least at guitar but this one sound crap ,too.

  • DUDE thats a sexy ass bass....!

  • i hope this bass doesnt discontinue

  • It won't discontinue they're too popular.

  • it like fenders p-bass and jazz bass they just wont ever let it go

  • yeah wtf, its like the top selling bass

  • that ent true, i play a stingray and its well comfy :)

  • I'm really contemplating picking up a Stingray, the tone is exactly what I'm looking for.

I've heard one of the drawbacks is that the pickup, being near the bridge, makes it uncomfortable to rest your fingers. Any thoughts/firsthand experience with this?
