I wanted to get CT for the DS but it's like 2.5x the cost if I were to get in on Virtual Console or PSN. And don't tell me 'emulator' because these games are looking like they're worth paying for!
@ArtificialFlavaFTB2 It's worth it to buy it. The DS version for chrono trigger is awesome, but if you want the psn one that is still cool. I wish they make a number 2. FF 3 vi is my fav besides ff 7. I'm almost done with the remake on ff 4 on the ds. it's pretty cool to see them go 3d. Now they need to do that for FF6
@Devilmanz1024 I have hopes for either FFVi on the eShop or maybe a graphic uplift like they did with Final Fantasy IV the Complete Collection for the PSP. That was awesome! But yeah, can't wait to buy these games. I just beat IV, VII, and IX and I'm really becoming a fan of these games.
Really the only complaint I have at all about this video is that you did number one to five, five to one is the normal way to do it and it creates suspense that way. But you were just trying to spice things up. Great video, totally agree with top 3. Sometimes however I like 4 more than six (their neck to neck imo)
Oh my goodness. Mystic Quest is on this list! So happy to see that. I was young when I conquered that game. It is one of if not THE first RPG I ever completed. Good video.

@Devilmanz1024 You're right- the PS1 version was totally a step down, if for no other reason than the excruciatingly long load times. Neither the DS game nor the SNES game had any significant "loading" that I can think of.
@iRoyS809 Chrono Trigger was actually the game that got me into RPGs. Now they are my favorite genre by far. I was so disappointed in Chrono Cross. It was good but it didnt live up to Trigger. CT was the first game I lost sleep over before school.
@earwax12321 I actually enjoyed CC a lot, I felt like everything was perfect in the game, the soundtrack was simply fantastic, and the characters were very memorable. Of course it wouldn't be fair to compare it to CT because I don't see how there can be another like it. btw, CT got me into RPGs too :D

@Devilmanz1024 the problem is that graphics are such a priority. I agree that great graphics can make a game more immersive but if that all the focus is on then the gameplay is lacking. Take a look at dragon age...thats a game with great graphics done right. Bioware usually does a good job though.
@earwax12321 You are right about that. They focus more on the graphics. I'm currently playing dragon age two, bioware is amazing. Mass effect 1 and 2 are my favorite and so is the Kotor starwars.

@ultmgammer And that is what started your newer RPG's. Look at final fantasy. Mario RPG brought paper mario. Crono trigger brought crono cross and a kick ass remake on the ds. All rpgs started somewhere or originated by these ideas. Newer techonolgy brings more better rpgs. So if your not a retro fan and think these games rock, you might not be a retro fan or your born in the 2000's..
The second Lufia is much better... Really... Not only the graphics, the story and erverything else are better... and it tells the pre-story of the number 1 ^^

@TheProFuckers Ya if you were born in the 90's it was.. You might mistake it for the remakes on the Ps1 that they corrected the numbers and put it on the right path as the jap's numbers. This video is referring to the old Snes games.. Final fantasy 2 was labeled as 2 and final fantasy 3 was labeled 3. These might have been before your time who knows. They started the whole "roman numerals" when they produced final fantasy 7 on the ps1. So they came out with the remakes on ps1.

The first Lufia was insufferable! Some of the shit in that RPG made me rip my hair out. Like no save points in the dungeons so if you make it all the way to the boss and get wacked you have to start all over.
@StanleySweet14 I agree.. with that one. lufia 2 was way better with the puzzles and all. The first lufia was alright for the story, but the battle system is what got me.. the miss if the enemy is dead. Made random battles no fun.

Secret of Mana was just a much better game than Earthbound imho :) A main factor was being able to use the Multi-Tap so me and 2 friends could play a fantastic RPG together. This was simply unheard of at the time, and I doubt Emulators support this feature today. I could be wrong though.

Is it jus' me, or does anyone else want the PS3 (And Wii/Xbox306) to make an old-school RPG (I mean the 32-bit graphs, sprites, everything) and simply fill the space with high-level/stat caps, items, loot, TYPES of loot, (Have your character have 32 equipment slots...) Expansive maps, (I mean big maps. Maybe 3 or 4, or 10 different worlds to warp too.) Classes, quests, characters, etc.
I mean, make a game that has easily 200+ hours of gameplay, and simple mechanics + old-school graphs.

I'm glad to see Lufia on the list, although I think it should've been 1-2 spaces higher. The battle system can be a bit annoying at times though (have two party members attack the same enemy, if one kills it, the other misses instead of attacking the next enemy).
hmm... FF4 chars dying isn't what made the game good. I actually didn't like that part of it, because of... the, "Oh they're not really dead" got a bit old. 6 is my favorite, but 4 was a pretty solid game with great characters as well. Plus the music was badass.
final fantasy 2 was basically like... kill off a lot of characters so that you can still maintain a party of 5 members. it only made people think that the deaths added to the story but i know the true meaning as to why they had to kill off those characters.
Ok so I love RPGs. They are probably my favorite type of game. One thing though, i could never get in to Chrono Trigger. My friend that i grew up with loved the game, and when i would go over to his house to hang out, he would be sitting there playing chrono trigger on his snes. Even to this day he always tells me to find it for the snes and just try to play it since i still have my snes but i do not have chrono trigger. I tell him that if i find it ill buy it. I know im not going to like it.

@MarioFetonix For the super nintendo it was ff 2, the playstation ff anthology version, which was corrected to be final fantasy 4. Which there was 1, 2 on nintendo and 3 on nintendo jap. The Americans named ff 2 for the super, later on finding out it was the forth one.... So... next time in my top snes videos ill put 2--- 4

Funny, bought the remakes for chrono trigger, still looking for ff 2, got 3s remake, lufia 1, sadly not sure if they remade it, so only got it on snes atm, as for earthbound, havent even tried it before.
Final Fantasy 2 aka 4 is a awesome game and it does deserves to be on this list, ( I can read and it does say top 5 SNES RPG's) but I prefer the PS1 version because the translation is better on it than on the SNES.

@MisterrIdontCare first seiken desetsu game was called final fantasy adventure for the gameboy. the second one was secret of mana and the third is seiken densetsu 2.
I absolutely love Chrono Trigger and its sequel Chrono Cross. Chrono Trigger is and will always be my favorite game of all time. Final Fantasy 3 (6) is a damn good rpg too. I see people complain about the story after the world changes, but I thought it was great. I've never heard of Lufia so I'm going to find the rom and give it a try. I haven't touched my 360 in months or any game for that matter, and I'm feeling old school at the moment. Thx for the list!

Is it jus' me, or does anyone else want the PS3 (And Wii/Xbox306) to make an old-school RPG (I mean the 32-bit graphs, sprites, everything) and simply fill the space with high-level/stat caps, items, loot, TYPES of loot, (Have your character have 32 equipment slots...) Expansive maps, (I mean big maps. Maybe 3 or 4, or 10 different worlds to warp too.) Classes, quests, characters, etc.
I mean, make a game that has easily 200+ hours of gameplay, and simple mechanics + old-school graphs.

I'm glad to see Lufia on the list, although I think it should've been 1-2 spaces higher. The battle system can be a bit annoying at times though (have two party members attack the same enemy, if one kills it, the other misses instead of attacking the next enemy).

hmm... FF4 chars dying isn't what made the game good. I actually didn't like that part of it, because of... the, "Oh they're not really dead" got a bit old. 6 is my favorite, but 4 was a pretty solid game with great characters as well. Plus the music was badass.

final fantasy 2 was basically like... kill off a lot of characters so that you can still maintain a party of 5 members. it only made people think that the deaths added to the story but i know the true meaning as to why they had to kill off those characters.

@Devilmanz1024 I agree with ya. I'm working on a FFVI hack that allows the player to surpass the damage limit. You can now go up to 32,000 damage.

Ok so I love RPGs. They are probably my favorite type of game. One thing though, i could never get in to Chrono Trigger. My friend that i grew up with loved the game, and when i would go over to his house to hang out, he would be sitting there playing chrono trigger on his snes. Even to this day he always tells me to find it for the snes and just try to play it since i still have my snes but i do not have chrono trigger. I tell him that if i find it ill buy it. I know im not going to like it.

@MarioFetonix For the super nintendo it was ff 2, the playstation ff anthology version, which was corrected to be final fantasy 4. Which there was 1, 2 on nintendo and 3 on nintendo jap. The Americans named ff 2 for the super, later on finding out it was the forth one.... So... next time in my top snes videos ill put 2--- 4

Final Fantasy 2 aka 4 is a awesome game and it does deserves to be on this list, ( I can read and it does say top 5 SNES RPG's) but I prefer the PS1 version because the translation is better on it than on the SNES.

I absolutely love Chrono Trigger and its sequel Chrono Cross. Chrono Trigger is and will always be my favorite game of all time. Final Fantasy 3 (6) is a damn good rpg too. I see people complain about the story after the world changes, but I thought it was great. I've never heard of Lufia so I'm going to find the rom and give it a try. I haven't touched my 360 in months or any game for that matter, and I'm feeling old school at the moment. Thx for the list!
