its called trumpet music. i think it might be be a A or B note :p

It does sound weird. It's a beautiful score, though, by Hugo Friedhofer, I think.
Those notes at the beginning are supposed to represent the Apaches in the story, as far as I remember.

The definitive Alfred Newman pre-CinemaScope Fox Fanfare.
If this had been the Three-Strip Technicolor version, then (R) would have appeared supered to the bottom right of "Fox".
