  • The camera is NOT that bad. Not compared to mine atleast.....

  • My camera is from 2001, the screen does not work and it won't zoom. But you don't see me making video's about it!. Learn to live with what you have got.

  • Stick to branded stuff, avoid cheap chinese stuff for most electronics :)

  • @agoodm I was a bit harsh in this video, the camera is not terrible believe me I have seen worse, but it certainly is not as good as others I've seen.

  • @CoolDudeClem

Thats a bit like me saying the camera on my phone is bad quality compared to a DSLR... Either way I think the HD camcorder you have seems to have a small image sensor (hence poor low light results) and terribly noisy audio circuitry - lots of weird sounds in the background.

  • @willbaguley9000 I use Adobe Premiere 6.5 mostly, it's old, but it gets the job done, only problem is I have to convert the files my camera makes because it doesn't support the Quicktime h264 compression. I also have ulead video studio but really only use that for recording TV shows.

  • I'd rather have a good old minidv camcorder than that thing. :P

  • That jellovision is absolutely terrible. I agree. This has to be the cheapest camcorder I have ever had the displeasure to watch. Too bad about the handycam. The speed is like a toy compared to it.

Where did you get that clip at the end?

  • @CarnelProd666 I think I leaned my lesson, don't buy cheap electronics, everyone should take note of that! The clip at the end is the "ranting sweed" from a sheep in the big city episode, it just seemed like a funny idea so I put it in. I forgot I'd done that actually.

  • @CoolDudeClem You know, I learned my lesson too, when I bought my laptop. That thing has to be just about the worst when it comes down to reliablility. And the microphone... I have a rant about it coming up. I really expected more out of 600 bucks

  • cams fine i have this for a year now could be louder but once recored it sounds fine jus my light is fucked right now, its cheap and cheerful

  • I honestly have no problem with this camera. I actually have the HD - 9Z which is exactly the same, just in different casing. Granted, the auto focus is a bit noisy, but I have no problem with it.

  • get the HD-8Z, its well worth the money.

  • Well, I'm going to assume that it uses a CMOS chip since most of them nowadays do. The biggest reason why I assume that is because it seems to have the absolute worse case of "jello-vision" possible. When you move the camera it literally looks like everything is made of jello. YUK! Damn China has really ruined the quality in this world.

  • Lol, a crappy camera that automatically destroys the evidence of the brand. Now why didn't i think of that..

  • im sticking with my sony mini dv. it takes a great pic and im not going high def until they get all the kinks worked out.

  • can you send me this camera, I need one.

  • i think the image quality is good compared to its price,it sucked maybe becos your hands were shaking.

I saw good short movie shot with it

  • becofre you start moaning, actually learn how to render properly.

5* for the sake of it

  • One thing I am noticing that I'm not impressed with when it comes to audio is there is some crosstalk in the sound, I'm assuming that's the electronics in the camera interfering with the microphone as the camera records and writes data to the memory card, not good.

  • what happens to this guy ?

  • Comment removed

  • dude, that cam. is GREAT! you just notice EVERY flaw in EVERYTHING dont you? you are a HUGE FREAKIN CRITIC!!

  • Sorry about me being such a ***** but i was grouchy. and i discovered that the hd 8z is a poc (peice of crap) so my apologies to you cooldudeclem.

  • i was thinking how can this shitty camera do a capture mode via sony vegas or any editing software?

did it do a capture for u? wut software did u use to run it on a live capture?

  • I'm trying to decide if you're just some annoying angry kid sat in his bedroom ranting at a camera, or whether or not to ACTUALLY take your advice..... what to do what t do ... the thing is I dont wanna spend 600 quid on a camera when I can the same thing for like 130... gah advice!

  • Just avoid all the "made in China" junk and you should be fine. There are better camera's out there than the one I have. I think Sony or Panasonic would have good ones.

  • it's all made in china, malaysia, taiwan etc. Even the japanese makes are not made in Japan anymore, or very few models are. All of the Panasonic and Canon equip I have are not made in Japan..

  • This is what I hate about fucking digital cameras. They always focus on one photo spot and it is annoying. Analogue equipment does not focus on one light spot!

  • I think its better then my canon. the picture is good on mine.

  • Can we Say INTERPOLATED, Can we Say a PC Low Budget Econom Hybrid camcorder?

Its a 5x optical outside the HD1080P sector,

The Internals are of ((COUGH)) Ai.....

My opinion mate, If you are after a professional Model, stand clear of a Economy Model. pro model whatever.

The Hdworld no longer uses a Standard def angle .

Welcome to the Real world of HD.

  • Somehow I missed this video until now! Sony used to make outstanding camcorders, but unfortunately these days even their camcorders are pretty bad unless you get one of the really expensive models. That's why the resale value for old Sonys like yours are still so high!

  • Using this camera to paint brushstrokes across all digital cameras may be a little hasty. For the specs it has on paper, it is the cheapest on the market by a decent stretch - which is why I'm considering it and therefore watching your review :) So, given the price, I'm just wondering if it's a decent purchase as more of a 'plaything'? Just to record some local cricket and football games, really. Any thoughts?

  • it's Ok for outside use during daytime, but the mic is not very sensitive. but i forgot to mention the "full HD" resolution on this camera is is 1440x1080 not 1920x1080

  • that is why they updated to a Higher grade andcorrected their issues but still present if you look hard for them,

  • The Speed /DXG 596V or digilife / Ispan are the models that resemble as well.

  • I can't believe your moaning about camera that costs around £100!

This cam ( I think) has a mic input ...so use it

HD always looks poor in low light because the sensors are smaller, the pixels are smaller due sooo many of them there are 1980 X 1080 pixels & that's a lot of small pixels that don't let in that much light. HD camcorders from Panasonic, Sony Canon etc are only now good enough to film in low light but you pay a huge price!

  • That's why I'm looking carefully for a new HD camcorder. What's keeping me from buying one is that they're not as sensitive to low light as my Hi-8 Handycam (mine's a CCD-TRV608). Maybe I have to wait a little longer.

To mention a few brand names I would trust: Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, Philips, Canon, and Hitachi. There may be others, but I can't think of them right now. Otherwise, I would avoid such obscure brands like the one you got.

  • lmao u talk like a retard.

  • fuck off

  • ...Aiptek camcorder for so long. But of course if you are used to the good quality of your Handycam this cheap cam is horrible.

A cheap solution to your problem would either be to let somebody repair your Sony Handycam or to get a used Camcorder from Ebay. There are a lot of pretty young cam's on there, and they're all cheaper AND better than todays cheap camcorders. I just bought an old Samsung Hi8 camcorder, just to try it out. I'll compare it to my other camcorders in a video.

  • ... And since the image sensors on those cheaper still photo cameras are big enough to deliver HD resolution, even the cheapest of these camcorders is HD.

The Zoom: Yes, compared to the Handycam the zoom in the cheap cam isn't very good, and maybe they made it so slow to make the user think the cam had more than 2x optical zoom. And maybe it needs the other 3x wich are missing in the video mode for the auto focus. I'm used to bad focus and bad low light performance because I had my cheap...

  • I think the most stupid thing about your camera is how much money you had to pay for it!

Why didn't you sent your Handycam to Sony to let them repair it? It would have been worth it.

The camera you have is also available on the German Ebay, and it looks pretty good.

Those cheap modern camcorders are nothing more than still photo cameras with a modified software and sound recording feature.

  • stick with handycam, dont buy other shit,

    does your handycam have nightshot?

i am going to buy a handycam dcr-sr35e to replace my canon powershot a1000is, which does NOT have autofocus!

but anyway, sony handycam and panasonic are good cameras.

  • I think the problem is its a Chinese no name cam which makes it about as bad as the ones from Creative! I once got a Chinese webcam shaped like a ladybird that could see in the dark using IR leds but int he day everything was funny colours!!
