that's all great and I agree on too many things but he is terribly racist eg he thinks deformed or sick people shouldn't reproduce. I mean...fuck off man
I think Ayn Rand, would be a fan of schopenhauer ideas. Bussness morality, on love? (These ideas/morals would also work in economics right?) These philosophies; could never understand to true feeling that one of the many enlighten masters feel about love/ and compassion( example: our lord Jesus Christ)
the linguistic conception of "love" and it's connotations is bullshit. Lust is the proper word and really the only word that is apt to describe those feelings and hormonal reactions. plus it's stripped of all idealisation and sappiness, it's a good word. accurate and appropriate.
@Bluedash3r Haha, so true. Also, Schopenhauer said that women "mature" at a younger age than men, that's why they act like/stay kids for the rest of their lives.
Alain de Botton is the ultimate pseudo philosopher. I cringe at his pathetic attempts to understand Schopenhauer and re-classify him as a philosopher of love. He is important for his repudiation of christian and humanist philosophers. He stood for everything that Alain de Botton is - trivial, superficial and mundane

Schopenhuaer thought he had solved the riddle of philosophy, the mystery of the Existence. He had an alien's perspective : He was the aristocratic philosopher.
If you consider, even for a moment, that women are slaves to their wills, which direct them to continue the species by any means nessecary; then it will change your perspective of the female race.
Personally, I think it makes you respect them more. Women put themselves through will on account of this powerful, unconscious drive.
ur a dumbass it isnt solely one gender is just humans in general. And the point is were all just obliged to it if we werent we probably wouldn't do it because it can involve so much difficulty, so not something tht is admirable for.
Suck my left nut you simpleton. Clearly, unlike you, i've actually studied Herr Schopenhauer; he has a well known and obvious disregard para mujeres.
Mind you, it's not personal - he blames the blind, irrational Will for this disdain - in order to perpetuate the human race, women are forced to be slaves to their sexual drives. Much more so then men.
Maybe you should try to actually peruse "Die Welt als Wille und Vorstellung" before you spout off at the fingertips.
You are so fucking brainless its almost unbelieveable. I don't care what his stupid theory is, its just that, a THEORY and youre probably reading it completely wrong because youre a fucking dumbass. PLUS it still goes what I said about it not being "respectable" because they don't do it because they want to, theyre DRIVEN by undeniable forces. so shut your fucking face
typical philosopher, how could schopenhauer ever knew anything about love. He was a rich, spoiled and rather anti-social. His writing on women was a very vicious view on how women think and behave. With an attitude like that it's quite clear he had never gone out on dates.
The only being he loved was a cute dog name Atma.
blueskycloud9-That aint right, read more Schopenhauers biography you will find out that he had several long relationships in his life, but as he is a real philosopher he renounced it for some reasons
freethought10 take a chill pill dude, just because I criticize schopenhauer's very luxurious and rather distant living, doesn't mean I hate rich people. I'm trying to make a point that the only real relationship he had was with his dog. Have u read Schopenhauer's work on Women?
Me? Chill out? But you are the one who criticize Schopenhauer for being rich. I just made a point of your ridiculous claim. Jealousy doesn't have to be hate. Who cares if his best relationship was with his dog? He had a quite good philosophy, maybe not perfect, like everyone else, but I do enjoy his point of view in love. His philosophy in women was the point of view of that time, but at the same time, he had a philosophy over his time.
jealous of him? are u kidding? haha. He died alone on his bed. He didn't have any close family or friends taking care of him. Please, read my whole statement, don't be conclusive by the word rich. Some people always being permissive about philosophers support to horrible ideas. Heidegger was giving his view of that time of Aryan Supremacy, but it doesn't mean it's something that should be excused. His terrible misogynistic ideas reminds us, that some philosophers could be misguided to evil.
Not jealous?Of course- if you're an ignoramus. He lived to a ripe old age in a pre-modern medical era. Oh ya, he was a bloody genius 2.
He lived, to most realistic & educated men, a blessed existence. No serpentine ex-wives,no spoiled kids,no debts or responsibilities. & FYI, He had plenty of friends, lovers, & international literay fame. He also never had to be a wage slave for a single day in his life.
This was one of the most brilliant men who ever lived. Show some f*cking respect.
The will of life ? this is so all fashion thinking, man is the only creature that go against his own biology, we are ego creature with the power to create and destroy life.

There is true love!. And it is a miracle. because it can balance our personalities.
In lack of love only our personality goes wrong. Superior or inferior. in a balanced state we feel cool with the assistance.
