Squirrel Making Noise

This is called barking. Most people who hear this think it is a bird. Squirrels actually do this all the time, but you don't often see them actually doing it if you're not looking.

The squirrels in my backyard make this noise all the time, especially in the morning, when I'm trying to sleep. -.- I thought it was a bird for the longest time until I heard it at a friend's house and she told me they were squirrels.

well i feed squirrels at my house, i observe them and i heard them make this noise before. I always thought it was some mating call, or maybe a call to alert other squirrels to where thier is food. but i think if it means anything it probaly means. stay the fuck out of my territory!

I never knew that squirrels made noise until a few weeks ago.I woke up one morning and as I was getting ready for work I heard this awful sound.I went into the kitchen and saw a squirrel on my fire escape and realized it was coming from him.I started making the same noise back (or trying anyway) and the squirrel started freaking out and running all over the place.At one point it was looking right at me but I don't know if it saw me because they have their

eyeballs on the side of their heads.

@paulshawn Hi, I hear the same sound from the squirrels in my back yard. I wish I knew what it meant. They also do a loud noise, like squawking, & whip their tails back and forth, & up and down, & it twitches too. I'm so curious as to what each sound means. The squawking one, seems like a warning, or like a cussing out LOL, but this sound you uploaded seems more low-key, & doesn't seem to be an alarm. I wonder if it's saying, "hey, Joe, I'm here sitting on the window sill, where are you?" IDK

@paulshawn They can crawl up that kind of brick because of all the little cracks in it. I've seen them do it before. Very bizarre looking!

@pegeman21 I've seen squirrels climb up brick walls before. They must have really tiny sharp nails that fit right into the wholes in the bricks.

@pegeman21 they climb the bricks. Their claws can fit into the rough texture of the bricks. My building has the same bricks, & the squirrels easily climb it just as they do trees. I've seen them hanging upside down on the side of the building, just like they do on trees. It's pretty funny. If you notice, these bricks are not smooth, but actually have a texture, with little crevices perfect fit for their claws. I only know this because I've seen it for myself, otherwise, I'd say the same thing.
