  • Honk honk honk *wails*

  • crappy lookin pierce go seagrave

  • Was that during the Provo Freedom Festival?

  • @rdifsp No it was Fourth of July 2008

  • awesome

  • Yeah, let's scare little kiddies and seniors that have a hard enough time hearing! Very nice, you punks! I am happy to say that many towns have banned these parts of major parades. It's really bad in my town since we are still using Darley and Detroit Diesel. This Q-Siren is always on top of the front bumper. I don't like that. Ban it already! Capice?

  • @DearbornPlaza It's not a real fire truck unless it's red with a Q siren. They are very effective at moving people.

  • @kcartersta60 I'll try to calm down about this. I want to start by saying you are right. A real fire must be solid red. Not red and white which reminds me of rural area and many suburban FDs. Yes, it needs a real Q-Siren or it's something else. I realize that only because it's logic. I am acting like this because I do not like fire trucks. I wanted to know exactly what brand of devices are used that make them sound so angry, volatile, and scary.

  • @DearbornPlaza Also, How can you hate the Q but not the air horns? If you want to complain about that, how about jake brakes? Some straight piped detroits and cats have extremely loud ones. Those annoy people too. I personally like them.

  • @kcartersta60 My FD uses Jake Brakes. Even the newer Pierce rigs have them. As well as those air horns. A large number of FDs in my area and all the rural towns that I have been to have the Jake Brakes, the Q-Siren on the bumper, and the air horns.

  • @DearbornPlaza Help me understand why you don't like fire trucks, other than the Q sirens you hate? I've never seen anyone hate them. Most of them use Jake Brakes cause it really helps to slow them down, especially when you are carrying several thousand lbs extra in water. I am a fan of old school fire trucks with the open rear jump seats from the 1980s with the 2 stroke Detroits, the old style Q sirens, painted red with diamond plate on the pump panel.

  • @kcartersta60 No problem. I will tell you why I don't like fire trucks. It's because I don't like my fire department. I live in the suburbs too. I hate it. My FD does nothing but medical and mutual aid calls. Very few fires. I cannot think of other reasons.

  • @DearbornPlaza I would consider that a good thing. Yes, we like to fight fire, but do you want people's houses and stuff to catch fire? Part of our job as fire fighters is fire PREVENTION. It's much better if it never starts. Also, a lot of cities and now more rural areas are starting to run medicals from the fire department. Would you rather them not answer and let people die? Why hate the truck/siren just because you don't like your department for doing their job?

  • @kcartersta60 Thank you for being so understanding and friendly. I am sorry about my behavior. I wanted to be heard. Not for attention. Obviously, I don't want anyone's home or public place on fire. That's cruel. I know you want to be our friends and help us. You show it. No one would want any person to die. Usually trucks and their sirens reflect the department's approach to firefighting and medical services.

  • @DearbornPlaza (Continued) Because of that, those red and white Darley and Detroit Diesel rigs I don't like. I don't know why some FDs use a white over red color scheme with a Q-Siren on the bumper with expensive chassis and bodies. I know they need to come to each call prepared, but do they need that kind of apparatus? My FD btw is Roberts Park Fire District in Hickory Hills, IL. They have a website and some videos on this site.

  • @DearbornPlaza I don't see how a department's sirens affect their approach to the services they provide. The rigs, yes. I took a look on their website and it appears they have very nice looking stuff, which means they care and maintain it. The tower looks fairly new. Quite a few fire trucks have some white mixed in now, it offsets the red a bit. The Q siren is mounted on the bumper because that's at car height and makes it easier for the sound to get to the cars.

  • @kcartersta60 I know the Q-Siren would match that of a Darley engine. Both were built for firefighting and rescue apparatus. I knew you would say that Roberts Park has nice rigs and they do indeed take good care of what they have. The new ladder was originally intended for FDNY. If you look at its appearance, you can tell. It also comes with a Q-Siren. Thanks for telling me why the Q-Siren is usually on the bumper. I think it really is effective and serves its purpose.

  • @DearbornPlaza What specifically do you want to know about the apparatus they bring to each call? There is a reason why they have each piece. Look on the website, find the truck you want to ask about, and I will explain it.

  • @kcartersta60 I would like to know about the brush buggy. I know this is used in certain types of fires. Usually, I see just the ambulance and tower truck (plus the battalion chief in the event of a fire).

  • @DearbornPlaza The brush buggy is used when there is a fire in the woods, or off the road a couple hundred feet. Due to the weight of the pumpers (called engines), they can't leave the pavement. Neither can the tower. Most of the time in a big department like that, they will send the tower (called a tower because of the bucket at the end) along with the medic ambulance to assist in anything they need. Whether it's forcing open a locked door to get someone out, lift assist, or whatever is needed.

  • @DearbornPlaza If it didn't have a bucket at the end of the ladder, it would just be called a ladder. Or a stick. Is there anything else you want to know?

  • @kcartersta60 Thanks for that simple explanation. I wanted to why some fire departments paint their trucks a certain color scheme if you could. That is always something I wanted to know. Why does the city of Chicago use black over red, currently using Electronic Q's on most of their vehicles for instance.

  • @DearbornPlaza The colors just go by department, and usually follow what they have been using for a long time. As for the electronic Q siren, that's because the mechanical Q is 123 decibels. In a city like chicago, and NYC does the same thing, the tall buildings and the small spaces cause the Q to echo and become louder. It could make someone have damaged hearing or go deaf if it was in too tight of an area and the person was in the right place. Thats why they dont use them in big cities anymore

  • @kcartersta60 Thank you. So, it's just the department tradition of coloring their rigs. I also understand the Electronic Q adaption better too. Tighter spaces and taller buildings mean a louder volume from echo. I would not want to become deaf. The Q-Siren these days (from my observation) is all suburban and rural. Something else, there is a volume control on the module of the Electric Q. I took the time to read this on Federal Signal's web site.

  • @DearbornPlaza I hope I changed your mind on what you think of fire trucks and this siren. If you have any more questions, ask.

  • @kcartersta60 I have changed my mind about how I feel about this siren and fire trucks overall. You proved to me that you are a friend, not just mine but anyone's friend. I have been emotionally distressed since my junior year of high school. I will freely and happily send you private messages and we can certainly be friends. I have a best friend already that wants to work for my FD.

  • Excellent sounding Q.

  • @kcartersta60 Excellent sounding because it sounds like Satan screaming at innocent civilians. How can you stand this thing? Tell me, how?

  • Was that a Pierce?

  • yes

  • Such a healthy Q, nice truck and a great airhorn.

  • What horn is that?

  • Air horn and Q siren (high pitched one).

  • Nice Qauntum!!

  • The Osmonds should be very proud of what's protecting them.

  • lol

  • that horn rocks

  • @railfreak99 Amen.

  • VERY nice. Good slow winddown on that Q.
