Yeah, the documentary is kinda cool. A nine year old being a photographer? Sadly, Im confused. How's this compared to the Sony Alpha 550? Im talking grip, user interface, picture quality, iso settings and so on.
@WaterPhoenix93 Take the D5000. Canon's lenses are like duplicates. There are lenses that are the same but the difference is the presence of IS(Image Stabilization)
@xx74g5 Hi, no this is not normal. The only time the green light should flash is when you insert the SD card. We recommend you to get in touch with your local service centre to get the camera checked out.
@nikonaustralia ok, thanks for your oppinion but this morning i called NIKON CANAD and spoke with a customer service agent and he told me this was totally normal, he even tried it with a camera he had and said that the same thisng happened and its normal. i also emailed them with my question and this is what they said : Yes, it is normal for the SD card light to blink during all those functions. so thanks but i`ll go with what nikon says =) cheers
@nikonaustralia hey guys cool video! I'm planning to buy this camera for sure, but it has no auto focus motor installed so that means I have to buy a lense that comes with auto focus right? And this is gonna cost me how much compared to the D90? Please respond! THANKS!!! :)
@tjacass don't worry about the motor thing as there are over 30 AF-S lenses available + all the kit lenses for the D5000 are AF-S. Unless you have older AF Nikkors, this will never be an issue as all new lenses have the built in auto focus motor.
@MrLarrend The RRP ($AUD) for D5000 in Australia is: $1399 (body + 18-55VR), $1699 (body + 18-55VR + 55-200VR), or $1199 (for body only). Go to Nikon Aus website for authorised retailers. Hope this helps!
hello nikon, im am getting a d5000 for my birthday, and i was wondering what lens would be good for taking really close up macro photos, such as flowers and small insects? Thanks, alex.
i am 13 and i love taking video and pictures soo i think im gonna get a nikond5000 other than the canon t1i because of the screen and scene modes so what do you think would be better for my first dslr
You would be able to use it, trust me. But after I got used to using the D5000, it got harder to control manually. The D90 helps a little more with that.. . I love my D5000, but I regret not getting the D90 instead.
then i would say save up the money and wait till yu can get the d90, i have the d5000 its awesome in all perspective, but when you want to learn about photography, d90 helps alot since its not as much automated as the d5000, so ur forced to learn it, instead you just switching to auto mode and start taking pics, if that was the case, why didnt yu get a point & shoot..right. bottom line, d90 is worth it in the long run.
man i havent got time to save up for the D90 before my trip to africa, plus i dont want to be carrying a £850 camera around all the time. trust me i will be able to make good decisions about what settings and not what the camera thinks :P
plus, if i get a cheapish body then i can spend more on good lens which in my opinion matters more !
@cmh1959 Get a D3000. Its got no live view or movie mode, but its still ok. Or else, get the D90, its worth the little extra. TRUST me. I have the D5000, I hardly regret it, but I still think I should have got the D90.
lool at the 1:17 you will see that when he is talking she is moving her lips with his words; cause obviously they were given a script to memorize and she got over whelmed..
but its a great camera, I just bought one and its phenomenal...
The person who is commenting about the frames per second: 24fps is what Hollywood movies use - it's about the look of the video, not the quality. 30fps is more camcorder ameautur stuff.
OK, it's all well and good that children can use the Nikon d5000. But now what I'd like to see is something shot by pro's that make use of the interchangeable lenses and manual camera settings, much like the videos that demonstrate the Canon digital slr's.
And I agree that 24fps is limited, it'd be great if the next model could also record 25, 30 and even 50fps.
its camera test to introduce the d5000, bought one and i think it a good camera though. I lend it to my nephew who is 4 years old put on auto focus and did few decent shots. I still love the canon though:)
My father got me the d90 as a graduation gift since he knew i was into video editing and taking pictures. Now i dont find the rolling shutter on the d90 that much of a problem cause i got some pretty steady hands but does the d5000 have a rolling shutter and give you a jello effect when shakin?
thats because this camera is not for pros! its for people who want to look like pros without any photographic skills. it is a niche market of people with disposable income who want the absolute best without putting time into becoming a talented photographer. this camera does all the work for you.
My wife just bought the Nikon D5000. I got nervous however when I saw the picture with the child 'playing' with it while wading in the ocean. I've always believe that salt water will completely destroy your camera and you can kiss it goodbye.
Is the video from the D5000 really that clear? 4 Frames Per Second sounds kinda sketchy. The Nikon P90 has 13 Frames Per Second, does that make the P90 have better quality than the D5000? Sorry, im kinda new at this stuff and im trying to find my first SLR camera :P
It takes photos continuously at 4 frames per second. It records video at 24 frames per second, which isn't all that much considering most point and shoot cameras record at 30 fps.
There's something not quite right about a pair of tweens playing with a camera that growups would really think twice before forking out a bundle of cash for. Envious? Moi?
Somehow though, I think thats a bit harsh. I'm 15 and photography is my favourite thing to do and my camera , A Nikon D60 is my most prized possession. If they have a intrest in photography, then why shouldn't they use a SLR? And in the video they said they 'gave it to the kids for a day' meaning it wasn't actually theres, they were using it for the one day. Of course though, i'd be more careful with my camera :)
Well, I hope you enjoy you camera. I'm borrowing a friend's Canon EOS 10, and wow, is it ever complicated. Like they say, you've gotta pay (attention) to play.
It´s amazing how much value for money you get in this type of camera now. I´ve recently been trying out the D90 and D300 and with the same sensor this will set a new standard for this type of performance in a more compact sized body. Nikon has done it again!
I think you're forgetting who the d5000 is marketed for. d300 and d200's are much better cameras but they are a separate class of camera for truly serious and working professional photographer. I do think the price of the d5000 is a bit steep for the consumer esp in this economy right now but it's cheap compared to a d300 at twice the price for a body only.
wow you really achieved how you wanted it to look and it looks so easy to be used maybe a 2 year old could use it.I also love how the screen can be lifted out and turned around. wow cool haha
The D90 have more specs : a much better optical viewfinder , internal AF motor (very important for some of us), top lcd, better grip, front dial wheel and more ...
I'd rather see Nikon spend some time on fixing up features on the D90, than releasing a cut down version of it, that is just about $100 cheaper. But hey, I guess "the ultimate test on how user friendly the D5000 rally is" by two kids is very important as well ;)
Not many upgrades? are you kidding? Live View, articulating LCD screen, HD movie all on an SLR at a low entry level price. Only wish they had a faster processor to accommodate a higher fps burst and improved 30+Video frame rates.
The D5000 looks pretty promising, and we'll see how it matches up with the T1i. It's a shame though that the articulating LCD isn't VGA-resolution, though.
We'll also see if the new screen will lead to a rise in self-taken, non-mirror DSLR shots used as profile pictures on Facebook or Myspace. Ha! ;)
Nikon, excellent new camera, Love the articulating LCD screen, wish it was opening to the left rather than down, Very useful HD video capture integration. Are you guys planning on developing a mirror-prism free technology like the micro four thirds in the near future? to make the overall size of the cam + lens smaller?
I'm not sure if Nikon would go that route, just because of the smaller sensor size. I'd prefer to stick to the larger, 1.5x sensor sizes that's being used now.
No the size of the sensor doesn't necessary have to be smaller to accommodate a
mirror-prism-free configuration. The micro four third uses the exact same size sensor as the bigger body four thirds. I am sure Nikon will eventually develop such a system because it is the future of cameras, less mechanical movements. I just hope they get to it sooner than later. Panasonic, Olympus and now Samsung have this types of cam on the market already.
