  • I can achieve a speed of 64 WPM on QWERTY, how far do you guys think I can go with DVORAK?

  • @youtubamigo

Find out and post a video

  • The trick is to memorize all the keys first, then completely forget about QWERTY, not use it at all and stay away from it. If you do this, you'll probably find it a lot easier to get up in typing speeds.

I type about 88 wpm, and I started Dvorak in early September.

  • My layout is in QWERTY, but I have memorized were all the keys are, it greatly increase speed. and ya I hate typing the word people.

  • I can get 100+ wpm (130-140 burst) every single try on 1min Aesop's fable. I wonder what I would type in Dvorak if I learned it?

  • I'm about to be on my fourth month, and I'm averaging 90. Typing Master is a good program for learning Dvorak.

  • That's a QWERTY keyboard o.o

  • I type around 120-130 words on a QWERTY, trying to learn dvorak now :)

  • I dont know why people measure speed in wpm, it's more accurate to measure individual letters including spaces and punctuation. I average 500 lpm and use qwerty. Of course I use to type an hour every day in school for 3 years...

I dont think switching to dvorak would be better for me, unless i dedicated a lot of my time in improving.

  • Anyway you should use it, it helps you to avoid injuries

  • When you learn dvorak, do you get confused if u switch back over to dvorak?

  • QWERTY was originally designed to stop typebars from jamming. For 124 years we've be complaining, but I'm glad I'll someday have to stop typing like this.

I mean we had the technology to stop jams since 1879, why didn't we adopt the Dvorak way in the 50s?

  • @Morahman7vnNo2 because communication technology is contingent upon past technological innovations and decisions.

  • True, but it's only a matter of time before we have to make the difference.

But then again, I don't type that fast anyway.

  • @Morahman7vnNo2 not necessarily true. at this moment, the cost or replacing the hundreds of millions of qwerty keyboards, educational programs for said keyboards, and re-educate the population by introducing a new typing system is VASTLY greater than benefits of typing faster with dvorak. because the benefits are greatly outweighed by the costs of switching, out society is technologically locked-in to the path that we have taken by making qwerty the norm.

  • We don't have to replace, we can just rearrange the keys, and reconfigure the keyboard programing.

Don't have to be the entire population, can just be for schools.

That's like saying society is locked in with it's mainstream music.

"You can't teach an old dog new tricks." Is not set in stone...for me at least.

  • @Morahman7vnNo2 rearranging the keys involves manufacturing millions of new keyboards, replacing the millions of old keyboards, paying for new classes for the millions of school districts in the United States, etc.

Also, mainstream music is irrelevant in this instance. Your definition of 'mainstream' is different from mine, and the acceptable definition is changing constantly. The definition of a 'standard keyboard' (qwerty), on the other hand, is not.

  • Once you can type faster than I can on a DVORAK keyboard I'll switch.

  • Hi, I've been typing in Dvorak for 4 months now. I'm at a stable 55wpm, and have hit 78 on easier tests.

It's strange, after typing for 20 years in Qwerty, I've completely forgotten it lol. But it doesn't bother me. I get back on a Qwerty layout and It just reaffirms that I made the right choice to go to Dvorak. Qwerty makes no sense!

Although I do hate typing the word "people" in Dvorak lolz.

Mind doing a new video with an update for us? Where you at now?!

  • The more you do it, the faster you get. I've been typing Dvorak since 2006, and even still, I'm finding myself improving. I'm currently averaging around 100wpm with a record of 110wpm, but just several months ago, I was averaging just 90wpm. The hardest part is actually switching, and you're doing a good job! I really hate having to switch to qwerty though, it's just too awkward of a keyboard.
