  • I am ok with the general idea behind Crossfit. Using functional lifts as the basis of a training program is how it should be done. However, I do not agree with doing high reps with olympic lifts in fatigued states, because injuries will happen. Squat clean and jerk or snatch are not meant to be done for 5 rounds 21 reps, the lifts are simply too complex.

  • @ClarenceCarter12 They're never done with heavy weights if it's high rep. Also, don't do it if you're scared of injury.

  • You know, for being with Crossfit from the beginning, and being as involved as Castro has been... his squat form is awful. No disrespect to the man himself; he's done amazing things, and has helped a lot of people get fit. I just worry about him leaning forward like that in the squat....

  • @Mentat1231 Well considering he's doing a low bar squat, his form isn't that bad. I think for most people low bar squats just look "worse" than olympic squats. You might be inclined to say that Jason has great form on his squat, which he does, but he's also doing a different kind of squat. Low bar squats in general always look awkward even if you're doing them correctly. Then again I do think that the oly squat is better so I could be biased towards the awkwardness of low bar squats.

  • How would you do in a workout where you do five rounds of the following: run 400 meters, then do (21) deadlifts at 185lbs? Try that, and see how fast you get it done. Because Khalipa and Lipson are just as impressive at those kind of workouts as they are at these pure weightlifting ones. That's the compromise they've chosen in their fitness, and their body size has simply adapted to it.

  • the squats of khalipa and lipson were good, castro was awful on squats and deads back hitch and arch on squat, i love crossfit, but khalpia and lipson should know not to hitch on heavy deads if they take west side barbell certifications

  • for the last 2 I'd recommend 2 plate for the guy with the cap and 4 plate for the guy with the spiky hair... Work from there using proper form.

  • @trecuck castro doesn't suck, he just has terrible form. I didn't see anyone pull 600 with anything resembling good form. I'd rather pull 400 until I'm 80 than pull like that and end my career before I'm 40! you can laugh, but if they keep lifting like that 10 years from now they'll be the one's making these type of comments.

  • @guysapire WPO and IPA power-lifting meets are famous for passing above parallel squats.( even record attempts) For instance, I witnessed Mike Miller's abortion of a squat in NY when he attempted 1200lbs. Not only was his squat high, he bombed on his bench and then took a token deadlift and they still gave him his record breaking squat. In any event, Lison and Khalipa are strong bastards.  The other guy is going to hurt himself, i just hope he gets it camera =)

  • @mkelfang You'd think they would have a) some respect for the exercises they are performing by completing them with decent form, and b) some respect for the fact that thousands of beginners are probably watching this thinking these guys are "elite." News flash to all watching, squatting 550, deadlifting 600 and pressing 225 isn't even remotely close to elite. There are many who can do it with perfect form.

  • You guys are missing the point on the form.. They are professional crossfitters. All that matter is that they get the weight up to the resting point of each of the lifts. Go watch some of the Crossfit games videos or competitions WODs the form is being sacrificed for either intensity, or to improve time therefore trying to beat the PR. These guys hit 1000+ lbs which is pretty incredible.

When you're trying to PR, I'm not saying form is not an issue, but when intensity is high and loads are unbelievably high, your form is NOT perfect. And a big marker for intensity is when form is not perfect. If you're lifting BABY weights thinking just cuz your form is perfect, then you'll never PR

  • @jaspersihoe That sort of form on a deadlift is not acceptable, whether it is a 1RM or not, unless you are Jouko Ahola. Castro is definitely not Ahola. Don't even get me started on the squat, especially considering he is lifting less than 150 kilos there.

    How the fuck did this guy become the Director of Training? He has shown he is completely unprofessional (black box nutrition incidents), has numbers lower than most casual lifters, and can't even lift with decent form

  • Oh wow, a bunch of haters on YouTube. That's surprising. Lipson's depth on his squat was fine. It wasn't ATG, but it was fine. The only real cause for concern here was Castro's failed deadlift. Should have just dropped the weight.

Don't understand why the "Crossfit Total" is basically just a variation on the powerlifting total? I thought I should be something like how many air-squats you can do in 20mins+Your max overhead squat+how much you paid for your bumper plates ;)

  • This video is disappointing. These are the current main faces on the Crossfit main site and they should be setting an example as to how to perform the lifts correctly. Instead, I think we got a video that was more about their egos. In particular, the shallowness of both Lipson and Castro's squats, the funny presses where they wander around, and the bent backs and hitching on the deadlifts. Respectfully gentlemen, review your technique and re-calculate
