This song isnt based on the Falklands/Malvinas, Argentina is just used for image sake. It is because it is a country that has resonance in england, and has some good looking dark chicks, Gabriella Sabatina was kinda hot and looked a bit like Justine Frischmann who he dated.
I listened to this the first time I landed in the UK (and took a taxi to where I was supposed to go), and it's stuck with me ever since. Amazing song from an even more amazing band!
All went wrong once Bernard left, with the exceptions of Trash and Electricity. Late Suede weren't worthy of the name, especially when that pretty boy prat on keyboards joined.
These two showed they still got the chemistry with The Tears, Appollo 13 especially was excellent.
you can see how dedicated Bernard was. Such a beautiful song, such a wonderful performance by Brett and Bernard. btw....once i lisntened to a version by electric guitar from a Suede booleg. awesome, definitely.
Is not a Lullabies my friend... in the conflict The Malvinas Island's War (Falkland Islands) 2.000 Argentines soldiers die and how the Royal Navy use Indian's Ghurkas to kill young soldiers hand to hand... of course, in Suede words sounds more poetics!
@raspalo it's very intersting. I'm a huge Suede fan but didn't know about that. I really appreciate the comment...Suede were one of the best band in Britain!
@raspalo , m8 no one would have had to have died if argentina had not invaded, it really is that simple ... the argentine government lied to its people and continues to do so ... we, the british, have been involved in many dubious and unjust wars over the last few decades ... the Falklands war of 1982 was not one of these ... saying all that, i love the suede as much as you all :-)
@raspalo try again after my post didn't appear ... no one would have died if argentina hadn't invaded, that simple. the agentine government lied and continues to do so. let's hope one day we can all climb above such things.
I've been looking for this video since it was shown on MTV Europe back in '94(didn't have a vhs recorder). It's very rare, thank you, thank you ,THANK YOU for uploading!
I came across the better quality video little after i discovered yours. Thanks again! Can't wait for the upcoming Anderson concert here in Greece in 10 days! Hope he's gonna preform this one!
i may be prejudiced to the 90's britpop scene, but really, most of what gets popular these days in Britain and hyped in the God-awful NME severelyyy pales in comparison with a masterpiece like this. this gives me chills everywhere
was a massive suede b sides fan but was never that arsed about this particular tune. this version however captured me in a way the cd didn't. wierd. perhaps its just brett looking almost like elvis...
WOW. The song is amazing. For sure. Just amazing. Suede as a band put out the most amazing sounding (and arranged) songs of all time. Plus
Seeing this video, which I had never seen, just reminded me of how UNREAL they were. I mean, look at how they look, listen to how they sounds. F'n-A. I saw them here in Los Angeles 3 times but never with the Master Bernard. Thanks for the video. Awsome
I could spend years talking about what i feel when i listen to this video. But it´s nonsense. It´s just too good, it´s just overwhelmingly fucking good, it´s just the best, it´s obscene. To be as good as it is. Please feel, please do not think, just...
Oooh I had this recorded as well on vhs! Fabulous...
Unfortunately threw away all my vhs tapes one day, thanks for uploading this! <3

Always two sides to every conflict.
To qoute Billy Joel: 'we didn't start the fire'.
