  • is it that easy to break regular lead acid batteries? Or are gells really necessary?

  • where do you get those big DC motors?? they are hard to find on the internet and expensive as hell

  • @swss12 Well, they're not *that* hard to find, but yes, they are expensive. But if you think that's bad, check out the batteries. I spent twice as much for batteries than I did for the motor. Put another way, the cost of the batteries is equal to the cost of the motor *plus* the cost of the controller.

  • Google American Power Sports for cart supplies. Also of some interest to you , wires, there are spacers for the Azusa wheels to widen them out for wider tires, those things you use are awefully narrow for the weight they carry.

  • where do you buy the motor

  • Haha,in secret I have been looking for an Electric Cart Motor :) That acceleration looks AWSUME.........!!! And BURN-OUT'S till the Wheels-Burn-Off. Muahaahahaha "giggle"

  • Hahaha, yep-very expensive.......as far as leakage-it would be a gas. Don't let anyone fool ya, that gas is TOXIC-Knocks holes in each and every cell it contacts. Weather by skin contact, or vapors. And it really has a pleasant smell :) Very lite (protect with fiberglass) Don't short out,,,,,cause the meltdown is intense. Gell's are VERY GOOD, only heavy.

  • Heavy indeed. This kart sports about 300 lbs in batteries alone. Yeesh.

  • Ahhh, very nice!! I see you chose GELL cells :) Would be alot more nasty in a crash with regular acid batteries. Try lithium battries (so much smaller) and so VERY expensive-but last much longer :)

  • Lithium batteries are a lot more dangerous if the contents are spilled, actually. But the real thing that keeps them out of reach is the cost - about 15x more.

  • @XRayCam where you can get those, they are expensive but yeah last forever

  • Looks great! Any plans for an off-road full suspension electric kart? I'd love to see that!

  • Thats really good. Cant wait to see it going. Ay idea of how long it will be till you post one with power.

    John.

  • I'll ride tonight, and post by Sat, 2 June.

  • thats looking great i really like the red paint

  • Whoa, at 72 volts you will need a helmet and leather jacket. Trust me on this one. You will hit speeds up to what a 250cc shifter kart can! Are you using an Alltrax AXE7245? The bypass resistor is unecessary. Just hook the contactor's contacts on the M- side on the controller and motor, so the controller will still have power, but the motor can still be disengaged in emergency situations.

  • You are the wind beneath my wings. I checked tracking info, and the parts have been delivered to my front porch. I might sneak out of work early today.

  • You build nice stuff.

  • Thanks for the kind words. I can't wait to turn on the power and see how it does. Then we'll really know whether it's any good or not. :D

  • that looks really great!!! what do you still have to do?

  • I'm waiting on the bypass resistor that goes across the contactor terminals. (That gives the controller some power even when the contactor is open) I'm also waiting on a 72v contactor, but if I have the bypass resistor, I can work with the contactor I have for now. I'm making the battery interconnect cables tonight. That's it - it's really that close.

  • keep posting videos!!! this is realy cool!
