Ummm... this video like to speak lies apparently. For example... when they say the apple isn't even features in the Bible... This is a lie. It is actually mentioned 11 times.... all of which are in reference to desire, offspring and sex. Perfectly plausible to say that it is symbolic but not plausible to say it is never mentioned. And this fact comes from the King James Version.

There are a number of answers to this. Which one you accept will depend on what your existing beliefs are;

.

For the atheist ;

(i) There was no talking snake, no Eden and no God. It's all just myth and fabrication.

(ii) There was no talking snake - Genesis 1-3 was derived from earlier Sumerian stories. Sumerian culture didn't have the Satan character of Christianity so it's impossible to reconcile the serpent and the Satan characters within the Biblical narrative.

(iii) There was no talking snake. The story is supposed to represent man's slide towards evil when faced with temptation and explain our separation from God.

(iv) There was no talking snake. The story was just an ancient myth handed down orally and only included in scripture so as to provide a complete history of mankind (i.e.from the very beginning)

For Bible literalist Christians:

(v) The serpent was a being created by God with intelligence and capable of speech, at least at that time. It was neither human nor a beast of the field. It was given free will but inclined towards evil just as Satan did. This doesn't contradict anything else in Genesis it just means that we only know part of the overall picture. The creation of the serpent wasn't described just as the creation of the angels wasn't.

Anyone who knows the Bible knows that the serpent is the Devil, The Great Deceiver. She has opinions which she puts forward as facts but her opinions are not shared by the majority of her fellow scholars .

@FeignofCordor Well now, history and interpretations of scripture is done by the "winners" through history, are'nt they? There were several other christian groups who saw The eden myth in a different way, for example the gnostic christians saw Jahve as an evil and angry (fits perfectly with scriptures) "god of this world/constructor". But the "true god" of enlightenment, the source of all, Logos woke up man to see that there was a way out of theis physical prison. The gnostics were hunted down.

In the Book of Job, which is set a few thousand years after Eden, Satan wanders freely between earth and heaven. How is this possible if Satan has been cast out of heaven and can only crawl on his belly?

Satan even seems to be on fairly good terms with God and God allows him to kill Job's family in a contest over Job's faith.

Yuo got all wrong Dr, try showing the viewers first how the earth looked before the continents shifted to the places they are now.it was known as Pangea, now we can start deducing the fact that God created everything in one place, and in this vast landscape area "Pangea".God put the tree of life in the CENTER of the garden.In other words,Dr. in the center of Pangea(the garden) understand now?

Just out of curiosity - did Jesus ever claim to be from the line of King David in the Bible? For that matter did either of Jesus' parents ever claim to be of the line of King David?

Not really. You're referring to Revelation 22:16

"I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star"

This isn't something that Jesus said to his disciples or anyone else while he was on earth. 22:16 is a conversation that supposedly takes place about 60 years after the death of Jesus, in a dream/vision, between the author of Revelation and an angel.

Interestingly, one translation of "morning star" is Lucifer.

Yeah - I don't have much faith in the veracity of any of the gospels anyway but John is surely the most fabricated of the 4. It's almost as if a group of early church leaders got together at the end of the 1st C and said ok now that anyone that might have remembered Jesus is dead we can write our own gospel that includes all the stuff we want that isn't in the other 3, without it being contested.

So you get John which has the skeleton of the synoptics and a lot of fabricated flesh.
