1978 Ocean City Md, I was 18 and got to see Robert Palmer in a small lounge called Finnigin's Rainbow. He sang all the Double Fun music. He was young, wicked thin and wearing an incredible italian suit. There was actually a small dance floor and people danced a couple feet from the stage. Seriously, best night ever....
@godwit7777 It,s Top Pop was NEVER live was not possible, was the time that artist came to shows to promote their songs to shows like this, pre MTV>Took a lot of time for the artist to travel around for the promotion of just 1 song and for the programs to take the shots live, because if they want to take their own band you have to hanged the set/stadium for every single song/artist/band that simple took to many time and money for those day,s there are however a feww live songs singing
deifintely not jamerson on bass. he only played with his right index finger. this bassist uses two and unfortunately i have no idea who he is. and yes brilliant bob babbitt cut for sure. love this song.

Its obviously mimed, so this bass player could be the stage janitor,Doesn't matter really the song stands up even if the smurfs were backing him.RIP Robert.
My favorite song by Robert Palmer. Amazing how talented he was from his boogie woogie fatback days with Little Feat's players on "Sneaking Sally Through The Alley", his sizzling power pop rock with Power Station who rocked when I saw them in concert!), his sophisticated crooner of MTV 80's pop, & this stunning cover of Free's Andy Fraser's inspired World Music anthem of peace, love & brotherhood, infused with his inimitable blue eyed soul. So sad he left us so young. What a gifted souful stylist
@arweiss100 Also my favorite song by Robert Palmer, what a long lost gem. Just heard one of the best stations in Seattle - JACK FM, play it tonight and looked it up on YouTube when I got it home. I'm sure very few radio stations play this song anymore. Never saw him LIVE, but wish I had. He died way too young.
@BridgetR72 I saw his first LA performance at the Roxy -- or one of the first. Palmer was absolutely captivating and quite the handsome one in his gray-wool tailored suit. RIP Robert xxxxx
I remember when I heard that he'd died I thought it had to be some other Robert Palmer. I grew up listening to his music on the radio throughout the 70's and it just didn't seem real that his life was cut so short. He was an understated "star" who relied solely on his music and not on controversy like so many of the Pop tarts today.
Great music and awsome bass with about as much of period disco as you'd expect. This is by far a real nice disco song and a slower one you can cut the rug too. Some of the disco was really cool and yes it does fall in other categories but it belongs in good ole Disco first.

@tferris It's true what @Choefoe stated - Robert Palmer had a solo career long before he recorded two albums with Power Station - and continued on his own after their brief collaboration. His career spanned 30+ years, covering almost every genre - soul, rock, pop, blues, Calypso, jazz, funk, Reggae, the standards. He was an innovative singer/songwriter who has been vastly underrated. Sadly, he was typecast because of his Palmer girl videos. The man should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...
This song brings back such great memories and look at Robert Palmer - so young, sexy and sounding sensational; such a class act. Very sad that we have lost this great talent but we will always have the legacy of the music he's left behind. Thank you, sjilko, for sharing this video with us! Rest in peace, sweet Robert. ★☆❤♫•*¨*•,☾✩♪ ¸¸❤♫•*¨*•.¸¸❤♪♫•*¨*•☆♫♫
Very good message in this song ! Good lyrics ! Robert Palmer looks so young and free in this video ! He was a great talent ! A friend told me just last night that Robert had died years ago ! It saddened me terribly ! Rest in peace Robert Palmer ! You are missed !
Worked in the record business when he first became known in North America...my roommate and I decorated our entire dining room in Robert Palmer press photos...and that was 1976! It was hot!

I felt the same way, too - still remembered exactly where I was & what I was doing when I read the news that he died - was breakfasting in my hotel in Barcelona.
OK, being a lifelong fan of metal and punk and crazy rock music, it takes a lot for me to admit this: Listen to the bass line here, driving it's way into the song like a stake being driven into the heart of a vampire. I heard this on the Muzak system every day for 11 years, working at Crapmas Tree Shops, and always thought, 'Listen to the bass on this one. That's fucking cool.'
Saw Robert on the Heavy Nova tour in 1989, at the peak of his 80's popularity. It was an intimate venue, and it was pure amazing. He sang songs old and new, and I was so thrilled to see this song done live.
He came out in a 3 piece gray silk suit with a thin pink tie. I swear he didn't break a sweat all night. He opened with "Some Like It Hot" and closed with "Simply Irresistible". I still have the tour program somewhere.......
I saw him at the Carowind's old Pavillion (NC, USA) and I only pay $5.00 beause I was in the park all day!!! can you belive it!!! It was the summer of 1989!! Labor Day weekend!!! OMGsh! what a steal!
this classic man showed up in front of me in a 3-piece shiny gray suit and I melted!!!
I was young, very young....but I knew then and now how much class he had.
how many rock and roll vocalists could sit in with the calibre of muscians making this video, and handle the remake of this iconic song with such unique class, soulful reality and elegance that he made it his own. thank you robert palmer.
@grazio599 Every Kinda People - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Every Kinda People" is a 1978 song originally performed by Robert Palmer in his Double Fun album. It was Palmer's first hit song in the U.S., reaching the Top 20. The song was written by Andy Fraser.
I cant even get thry this song without crying, if the world would live by this song just think what a wonderful world we would all live in God Bless you Robert for the message,RIP
According to the great Gospel Evangelist St Paul, God filled the human heart with seven gifts. Each of us moves through these gifts as the need arises. For it "takes every kind of people, to make the world go 'round". When we operate via the Holy Spirit these gifts enable us to express our divine nature. St Paul infers that Jesus operated with all seven following the will of The Holy Spirit. Jesus says we can all do the same. When those gifts operate under the influence of sin we cause harm.
I don't even know how I stumbled across this vid, but man, what a nice treat it was. I'd forgotten how great and timeless this song was. "There is no profit in deceit, honest men know that revenge does not taste sweet." What a great line. That one has always stood out in this song for me. RIP Robert Palmer. Gone, but clearly not forgotten.
Funny thing about this life amazing things you can learn about people and where their hearts and minds are. I kinda get the feeling that people myself included just want to be loved and give love in return. Think it would be easy with 10 billion people walking around this planet. (NOT SO EASY UH.)
palmer was a excellent musician! when this song was orginally released in the late 70" it really plucked geart strings, everybody wanted to hear this song everyday weather it was radio stations, clubs, or house party"s just had to have a little palmer in the mix to brighten everything up. PEACE! :-) D
I believe the video here has James Jamerson Jr. sitting on the play along. I think he toured with Palmer as well in this era. It's amazing how much son looks like father.
@bkfindlay This bass player is neither James Jamerson or his son James Jr.
James Jamerson not only played with one finger but only played one bass his whole career. It was a 62 fender p bass sunburst with tortishell pick guard. Also known as "the funk machine" and it is not his son because In that era, James Jr did not look like that at all . He actually didnt start to look like his dad until his older age. I dont know who this guy is on the bass.
I don't think it's James Jamerson. He used to play with one finger on his right hand, whereas in this video the guy's playing with at least two. You can see it at 1:30.
every kinda people except those i don't agree with.

Worked in the record business when he first became known in North America...my roommate and I decorated our entire dining room in Robert Palmer press photos...and that was 1976! It was hot!

This video is a hoax. Robert Palmer is the singer of the 80s Power Station, not some 70s solo singer.
tferrisjr 1 year ago
@tferrisjr It,s the other way around, he IS a solo singer, Powerstation was a one time formed band with 2 guys from DuranDuran;-) just for fun

And I now realize how lucky I was.

@railynnelson
I have to say, I am a lucky person too!

I believe the video here has James Jamerson Jr. sitting on the play along. I think he toured with Palmer as well in this era. It's amazing how much son looks like father.
bkfindlay 1 year ago
@bkfindlay
you're correct. that's him.
normanhathaway 1 year ago
@bkfindlay This bass player is neither James Jamerson or his son James Jr.
James Jamerson not only played with one finger but only played one bass his whole career. It was a 62 fender p bass sunburst with tortishell pick guard. Also known as "the funk machine" and it is not his son because In that era, James Jr did not look like that at all . He actually didnt start to look like his dad until his older age. I dont know who this guy is on the bass.

afiggiani1558 1 year ago
I don't think it's James Jamerson. He used to play with one finger on his right hand, whereas in this video the guy's playing with at least two. You can see it at 1:30.
