@100PercentTHCfilms xp lmao... its like compare the windows xp vs windows 3.11 get lost .... want windows 3.11 its 20 times faster than xp... fuck people are so dumb
@TheVanGastel no actually lol XP is functionable and can do practicly everything a windows 7 Computer can do if programmed right. 3.11 is dinosour compaired to both win xp and win7 win xp is only 2 below win 7 and windows 3.11 well we all know thts way farther, come on common sense. ive even tryed windows 8 out myself. and i think its better suited for touchscreens not normal desktops.
@100PercentTHCfilms lol windows 3.11 a dinosour lol you forget that xp its also dinosour lol next time use some brains. because windows 3.11 its from 1990 and xp its from 1999 compare that old dino xp with windows 7 thats build in 2009 so what are you saying again? move on with the time.
M$ loves to tout faster boot times with each new operating system. But the real test is with applications loaded on your HDD and **very important** all the drivers associated with the various programs you are using. Changing from Vista to Win 7 was like wow!! Then I loaded all my programs and there wasn't that much difference.
I frankly am pretty happy with Win 7, and not looking at not migrating to Win 8. I'm not crazy about Metro and there are too many changes for workstation computing.
As Eric says: Do a comparison when Win8 is complete. And if you REALLY want to make a fair Boot time comparison, use a RTM Vers. of Win7.
Some might disagree, but let me explain: I once had an old PIII Laptop 500Mhz 192SDRam. It ran Win2003 Enterprise Edition. It ran just fine until it needed several fixes and a large Rollup after SP2, for safety reasons.
Then I had to go back to Win2kPro.
Later I've fixed my own and other peoples PC's slowed by XP Updates.
@Theoz3111 Wow! REALLY? So the OS X from a year ago beats the soon-to-be outdated Windows 7 and the Beta build of Windows 8? AMAZING. Truly, Apple has the dumbest fanboys such as yourself.
I hate the way microsoft keep bringing out new operating systems, why do we even need then? I'm still on windows XP and it's lightning fast. The only reason I upgraded from win98 was because a peice of software I used wasn't compatible.
windows 8 is a beta version. it means that some sub-programs have not been written and there may be more crashes compared to windows 7 and no antivirus is there for windows 8
Windows 7 is and always will be better than Windows 8. Windows 7 just has the feeling of Windows XP with a few nice touches to it which allows easier usage. Windows 8 = fail.
Doesn't mean its ready and usable. I have a really slow horrible XP laptop that takes a minute or so to show the logon page, after that its still gonna take 2-3 minutes to load a desktop as its starting all the services in the background (in fact if you log on too quickly it just fails).
Need to measure until the all activity has completed and machine is idle and fully ready.
@erickrayos Actually it is Win7 + Win8 Features. With modified Kernel and other stuff of course but you can use it as a full system and everything that runs on Win7 also runs on this developer preview ;)
@erickrayos Well when its fully complete it might still win. If you see the system requirements windows 8 will now be able to run on old PC's with 200MB ram so it will run way faster than vista and 7. MS will make more money if they make win8 run that much ram because pll with old PC's will be able to use 200MB instead of 512 or upgrading ram. and there is no aero visual effects the visual effects in win8 are run down so now you don't need a graphics card to run aero visual effects anymore :D
This is a pointless exercise.. anyone who knows anything about software engineering would understand the concepts of pre-caching, lazy loading and dynamic linking and all of that stuff. Just because it boots faster, Win7 might be pre-caching lots of things making your user experience smoother, since it wont have to load these things again as you move in and out of documents and programs etc. I'm not saying Win7 is optimal, I'm just saying that it's hardly a user experience comparison!
Windows 8 boots a lot quicker, but I'm sure this has to do with the more oversimplified Metro UI. Now if both OS's booted into the regular desktop it would probably be about the same, I'm assuming.
is that the samsung tune you used for this video... it has the same tune as my phones ringtone (which is samsung) just it's my is mp3 and it has voice in it...
Well in my laptop (I3 , 3 gb ram,etc...) boots in 14 seconds, and it turns of in 3 seconds with windows 8 preview developer :), it's an awesome windows, the best until now.

I read somewhere windows 8 doesn't completely shutdown anyways, when it shuts down, it is actually hibernating. It keeps a lot of what you load up in a swap file.
How do you get your Windows 8 to boot so quickly? Mine takes longer than Windows 7!
It also has to show a boot display screen which slows it down by lots of time due to MS loading lots of drivers just to show that screen. (Why not the command line interface we were all used to, why load video and mouse drivers for a boot selection screen.)
That spinny loading circle spins at least 2-10 times for me, not only once.
@ElvenSpellmaker This is something to consider.. The most common reason could be because of your Computer's Speed, Memory (RAM) and the Processor.. Another thing is that both Windows 7 and 8 take a lot of time to boot in mostly Netbooks (because of its lower specifications)
@ElvenSpellmaker If you're dual-booting Windows 8 with Windows 7, it will cause the boot time to be slower. Also, if you cold-boot Windows 8, it will also take awhile to boot as well. Windows 7 is, like Windows Vista, a terribly optimized system. You won't notice it with good hardware, but as soon you throw a N550 at it it'll get painfully slow. XP just runs much better and faster, it almost feels like a SSD.
The real looser is you. All I can say is your pc sucks my win7 boots in 7sec. I guess that's what 4x240kingston hyperx's in raid 0 paired with a 3960x dose

PEOPLE CARE ABOUT DESIGN. APPEARANCE. I cannot get beyond the fugly design. Ballmer needs fired at once. They had a beautiful creative product on 2 half screens. Ballmer killed it prior to market. Microsoft does not get it. Hire a creative, brilliant mind to run the company. Facebook, Android and Google, Apple. We will be buying 20 beautiful android tablets to handle our wifi email functions from Walmart. Under 100$ a Piece.
I AM BLINDED. It's ugliness blinded me. This is a steaming pile of Dung. Ballmer should be fired. An android galaxy has a picture of the garden as my wallpaper. Programmable widgets that are small on the desktop. The tablet is used to send email and information to our back end web integrated database. This device is ugly This device is real real real ugly. Putrid rectangles on a putrid wall paper color. Apple and Android and Google did not happen in a vacuum. Brilliant CREATIVE minds at the helm
Can the softwares running in window7 be installed/run normally in window8?
I'm afraid that the softwares that i used to use in window7 cannot be installed in window8, such as AutoCAD, SAP2000, Robot Structure,....and some other old software versions.
Is the current window8 stable yet? Does it have some bugs? Does it run faster than window7?
@KYVisothSambath Windows 8 is pretty stable when I used it on my computer. All my drivers can't run on any other machine or OS but it worked with Windows 8 even though they were designed for Windows 7. I'm almost positive that all current software will work with Windows 8 give or take a few pieces of software.
Also, what's on your boot menu for winowds 7? Type msconfig in the start menu, then clear all the programs that boot with your computer, then retry it.
It's a new OS, of course it loads faster. No need to cry because of technology evolving, it doesn't matter if you like Windows 7 better, facts are facts. Windows 8 was built upon 7, meaning it has the same features and files. Stop making excuses.

YEA, you caught up to Apple and Android. You are 3 years behind. DESIGN is ugly.

Thanks for the review.
KYVisothSambath 2 weeks ago
@KYVisothSambath Windows 8 is pretty stable when I used it on my computer. All my drivers can't run on any other machine or OS but it worked with Windows 8 even though they were designed for Windows 7. I'm almost positive that all current software will work with Windows 8 give or take a few pieces of software.
DumplingPod 2 weeks ago
@DumplingPod I completely agree with you. However, my USB Wi-Fi antenna's drivers don't work on 8, just on Windows 7.

ReScaping 2 weeks ago
Windows 8, sure, it's slower.
But hey, at least it's actually a proper operating system rather than some half-baked shit.
