But I'm not proud of the fact the US has aspects of an empire. That's not what I think makes it a great place. @ncfo20 Americans make about $40,000 a year. Swedes make roughly $35,000. Our system isn't perfect by any means, and we need to tweak it (get the government out of the economy), but a system like the one Sweden has in the US would be, in my opinion, catastrophic. That system doesn't work for most of Europe, it surely wouldn't work here where the population is 30x the size.

Personally I'm for universal healthcare and I'm a democrat... but I think some Republicans do have a valid point. Sweden is a very, very different country than the US, both in terms of economy and demographics. While I'm not saying thAT the US cannot have a healthcare system and government that help people succeed and be happy, it does mean that the comparison is somewhat invalid, and that just because it works for one country doesn't mean the same system will work for another.

I cannot understand why, since I have no insurance, when I go to the emergency room for situations beyond my control (kidney stones, mainly), I get a bill for $2,000+ for nothing more than a bag of fluids and a prescription for pain killers. I am broke and cannot afford to move anywhere else, and my voice isn't heard by anybody who really matters in making such decisions.

Sweden is a very, very different country than the US, both in terms of economy and demographics. You guys crack me up! I live in sweden and we have healthcare so we know it works. In your part of the world you are so behind in many ways, religion, racism and a lot of other stuff that we in Europe can´t even believe! And you honestly think you know what you´re doing?? I am sorry if I offend anyone. I really enjoy the US as a country and have met many friendly people. @jesperjee The funny part about that entire statement is that at the end of the day, the United States of America is undoubtedly a superior country to Sweden, and to most of Europe. That is not because America is behind. America is most certainly ahead. You also make extremely generalized and predominantly false statements, showing how biased you are toward your own region of the world. At the core of the United States' values and founding documents, etc, there is no country that can come close.

When I say that you prove my point I mean that you get defensive when I critize your country. So I assume you feel like your country is the greatest and best in the world....and that is just ego. I have no problem in pointing out flaws in Europe or Scandinavia. idiots are everywhere....and I would never be angry if someone did so. @jesperjee Well, I am defensive when you criticize my country because I am patriotic about my country. And the criticism you provided is simply false, so I think I can justify responding in an angry fashion. There is a reason why the some of the most successful people in the world make their living here. Sure we have problems like anyone else, but it's the American dream, protection of liberty, and pursuit of happiness that you don't find as manifested in other countries and their founding docs.

I just meant that stupidity seems to have the upper hand in politics and a lot of people does´t seem to understand how dumb it really is...because they are used to it!

@jesperjee You're absolutely right and I assure you that how the media and pop-politics are with those issues does not encompass the entire population, not even close. It is a shame that race and religion are such a big deal and I agree that we are way behind Europe and other parts of the world in this respect.

@anthemofadam @celloguy23 I think the problem is that the wrong crowd gets "it´s voice" because of how it has always been in the past. Maybe that is the problem with a large country. Sooo many people has evolved past differences of race and religious beliefs, and that we still need to conquer and covern others. I still think we will move past this. But unfortunately so many businesses make far too much out of keeping it the way it is....even though the system keeps falling in on itself.

@JakobiaP No it isn't. Sweden is a tiny nation and an outlier. Most of Europe is within less than 3% of the US unemployment rate. Look at normal, long-term economic circumstances to make a more accurate comparison.

@JakobiaP fast det där e ju bara skitsnack, vi har nu ca 29% arbetslöshet för ungdommar upp till 25 år. HUR bra är vi just nu? ATM sweden 7.5, US 8,5 but that change monthly. But yes 8.5% is more ppl then tehre IS in sweden but. Its like comparing Europa to sweden. UNemplyment for young people isa global problem scine we are stuck in need for constant crowth. Wee need basic hardwork jobs again! Fuck byrocraty. But i agre on that the US poletics is F*P'd when comedeans can run for Pres.

@jesperjee I 100% agree with you. I cannot believe that the issues of race, religion, or ethnicity still exist. I cannot understand why, since I have no insurance, when I go to the emergency room for situations beyond my control (kidney stones, mainly), I get a bill for $2,000+ for nothing more than a bag of fluids and a prescription for pain killers. I am broke and cannot afford to move anywhere else, and my voice isn't heard by anybody who really matters in making such decisions.

@Candice1985H I can understand that. What I don´t understand is why people are so afraid of the healthcare plan. "Our rights is taken away" and "Communism"?? It seems that people are truly focusing on the wrong thing. Noone will loose with universal healthcare not even the ones who are complaining. It IS a right for everyone to have it! But I guess everyone fears new things. This also makes it hard to believe in "their" god because if we have evolved how come God hasn´t?
