Zoom by pressing the "Use" button. By default it's Enter and E.

When you encounter the thugs in the engine room there's an air tank at the back you can shoot and will kill everyone. But you have to be positioned right at the door shooting straight ahead. It takes a minute to get it but it saves bullets and time.
