No, you don't need to forward. You might want to think twice and add a firewall. A direct connection to the internet is going to leave you vulnerable to every new attack that comes along.
I do not have a router but i have a static IP connected directly to internet with out firwall ( my network admin friend provided this at office ). So should i do a port forwarding using some software(if any) ? ( my guess is that its not needed but better check with the expert)

whats a good firewall to use? Windows firewall. a NAT? (router..)
