    Whoops!

  • i wish i could of been on this show i grew up watching this show andre and the main theme has been stuck in my head for almost 25 years

  • im happy you posted this! I love this show and its great you get to share with others your 15 mins of fame ;D

  • I miss this game show! I loved it

  • Definitely a toup!!

  • 2:34

Greed makes you stupid, boys and girls, and there's your proof...

    2:53

...maybe now she'll think twice before making that move again?

  • Totally hilarious... As a Canadian (who is fluently bilingual) I have to say I think they faired pretty well with trying to pronounce a French name.

  • Jennifer's HOT!

  • A Vivitar??? You scored!

  • I wonder when the Scrabble Logo was added to the Contestant Area.

  • that's pretty funny, do you still take beautiful 3.5mm photographs?

  • i finally found this song i miss this show a lot

  • Lafuda thinks ur hot!

  • Gorsh!

  • I never go on TV without my wig either...

  • i would never have thought it was a hairpiece, i thaught it was just 80's hair☺

  • Well, it was '80s hair. The only difference was I took mine off every night.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • i wish they would bring this show back its one of the greatest game shows ever

  • This is great...do you think I could personally get some advice from you regarding getting a hairpiece. Serioulsy, I 29 and losing it bad in the front. I want to get a good toupee---any ideas?

  • Yes.

    Don't do it.

  • Lol

  • @andredupuy why not? very curious.

  • luv the hair......

  • you look really nice on the show

  • How did the three name thing get started, Andre, if it's okay I call you that? Do people still call you that nowadays?

  • had no idea that was a peice.

  • i love the music to this show this show was the best game show ever

  • Well, I thought you looked good. I thought the MC was totally obnoxious. Do you still wear a piece? You can check mine out at rugman77.

  • I ditched it a year or so later and I've never looked back. I'm happier without it.

  • Haha way to keep it real, Larry David would be proud. I'm only 27 and it's just starting to go, but gimme 5-8 years and I'll be a card-carrying member of the bald brotherhood. Save me a seat :P

  • i was SURE the first word would be hairpiece

  • Yeah, but it was only an eight letter word. Hairpiece is a nine letter word.

  • not even the right ammmmmount of letters?

  • Quote: "not anymore it got cancelled."

Really? I didn't know that. Oh well, Lingo started to go downhill once they added the unnecessary female co-host. That was during a period when GSN, for some reason, felt the need to add T&A into some of their original programming.

  • hey, the piece looks natural.

  • It was made of real hair and it cost $2000 so it better have looked natural.

  • 2000 clams? That's insane, especially in the 80s!

  • hi dre dre it's your nephew i got an account!!!!

  • How old were you here?

  • If in fact it was taped in 1986, I would have been 23. I wore the "piece" from ages 21-23.

And for the person who asked, the show was taped at the NBC studios in Burbank.

  • This must of been from December 1986 if it really was 1986, b/c this was when they first used the streamlined format after several months of Scrabble Tournaments over the earlier period of 1986.

  • I remember this show from when I was a kid. This is from 1986, huh? I was 8 at the time, Chuck W. was a funny host joking with the contestants. They should bring this show back on tv in the 2000's if he willing to re-host it again.

  • He's busy hosting "Lingo"

  • not anymore it got cancelled.

  • That hairpiece doesn't look half bad. If it didn't say in the description, I wouldn't have known.

  • Duuude, that's awesome. I miss the hell out of this show. At least Chuck was joking around a lot with you. Not everyone gets to say that!

  • At 1:03 I bet you were afraid he was gonna say, "Now, is that 'really' your real hair?"

  • lmao

  • Andre this is so cool! hey at least you got to be on TV.

  • the theme music to this show is awesome i love it

  • How was the camera?

  • Was it annoying having to wear three name tags?

  • What if "Scrabble" was on DVD?

  • did he say flippers?

  • Very brave to upload this :) It's awesome. Look in my profile for the video/song I just uploaded about my scrabble addiction.

  • they need to bring this back on tv

  • Was this when they were still "Straddling" or was this when they brought in the "Timed Format" w/ the Bonus Sprint at the end of each show?

  • ACCD woot!

  • i take it she won the sprint

  • I never would have guessed you were wearing a hairpiece...that one's pretty good.

  • Do you still have that camera??

  • It's somewhere around the house. I certainly don't use it anymore but it has great sentimental value. It talked to me. I used to refer to it as the camera with the tiny Japanese woman inside. The voice that said things like, "Load film" and "Too dark! Use flash." had a distinct accent.

  • I didn't think you looked bad in that hairpiece...u were kinda cute lol.

  • u did good

  • Haha, nice job. Too bad you lost, but I'm sure it was loads of fun

  • Vive le français

  • Do you still have your Vivitar camera?

  • i do. seriously

  • I love it when the Chuck goes, "Good Night!" I could see how he'd be confused

  • Never!

  • It'll only make the viewing number go up.... whatever...

  • search NJV SCRABBLE

  • Now Andre....working in cable tv....cable guy?

  • No. I used to sit in a tiny room every evening and start the tapes for the leased access channel.

  • Way to go, Andre! Jennifer was just a little quicker with the buzzer. So what was it like on the day you actually went to NBC to tape your game? What time of day was it? How long were you there for? Did you see any other celebrities? -faux

  • When i'm playing the game and when my turn starts after my opponent got a stopper after the first of 2 letters (example N or P and she chose N) to pick from was a stopper like the one 2:34 in the video, do i just automatically put the next letter in and then pick 2 tiles or do i have to pick a tile to fill up the board up with 2 letters and then pick the letter i wanted to go for (which will be a P)?

  • Uhhhh...

    Me play Scrabble good.

  • That doesn't answer my above question.

  • Pick another tile to fill up the board!

  • Thanks.

  • dorkiest theme music ever

  • Best God Damn Theme ever

  • The background tile motif on the set always reminded me of a bathroom.

  • The first 2 years of '80s Scrabble had a pink backwall with blue spotlights, no audience present on camera (yes there was an actual studio audience but no audience pit, yet) as well as a different format for winning the money.

  • I thought you looked fine with a hairpiece, Jennifer. In fact, I can't imagine you going on national TV without it.

--Oh, oh, oh! It was André Francois Jean with the rug! Well, you were a great contestant. Too bad Jen beat you to the buzzer!

  • Did you get to chat a bit with Chuck during or after the show? He always seems like a regular guy on his shows- never stiff or uptight.

  • No. I didn't. What you see is what you get. He seemed nice to me too, but we never talked.

  • Pretty cool. I like how they gave you three name tags.

  • Jennifer is sassy in such an eighties way.

  • Did you get good use out of that shnazzy vivitar?

  • Yes it is, Toltendo. I took it right off the TV when the episode aired, about a month after the taping.

And thank you kojakbald. I ditched the piece about a year after this was done and have been blissfully bald ever since. I still have it, though, in a box in my closet.

  • Now this is the best quality video I've seen for a 'Scrabble' clip. This must've been your copy of the show.

  • makes me wonder if scrabble came back to tv as an hour-long game show

  • and i'm with tiller you really did a great job u just lost by a split second. it happens

  • Did they have the new bonus sprint at that time?

  • If you see the blue backwall/pink spotlights combo on the set's background, then yes they did.

  • I don't know if there is a blue backwall on there?

  • Yes that is a blue backwall. All eps. from late 1986 - March 1990 all have a blue backwall. All eps. from July 1984 - late 1986 all had a pink backwall, instead of a blue backwall and had no audience pit on camera.

  • I meant to say the blue backwall in the back of the set.

  • gotta love the ppl who write the clues for this show

  • Love the toupee!!!

  • loved this show as a kid...the theme song, sound effects, chuck, the double entendres i didn't get back then...must have been a great experience for you

  • I loved this show. I used to watch it in reruns in the 90s.

  • You're right, Andre! This IS definitely from 1986! The contestant podium didn't have the pink layers on them yet and two the backwall now changed from mostly pink to mostly blue. Also, the audience pit was added around this time.

  • This just proves that Chuck Woolery is the all-american game show host

  • They don't give out the person name in the game.

  • Good going, Andre. I must agree with everyone who said it. You're one darn good player.

  • You didn't do too bad at all Andre. You actually played the game quite well, and that was a great show. Great show, one that badly needs to be brought back to TV.

  • I loved this show as a child. Great stuff!

  • My favorite part of seeing old videos like this are the commercials. :)

  • Great stuff. "We'll get to you later." :)

  • Damn good episode, this is hilarious. Thanks for the upload. You didn't do that bad.

  • Can't you upload the rest of it?
