For anyone who cares...just discovered a neat App on the App Store that records and calculates each players' scores. More worthwhile than you might think!
This is great...do you think I could personally get some advice from you regarding getting a hairpiece. Serioulsy, I 29 and losing it bad in the front. I want to get a good toupee---any ideas?
Haha way to keep it real, Larry David would be proud. I'm only 27 and it's just starting to go, but gimme 5-8 years and I'll be a card-carrying member of the bald brotherhood. Save me a seat :P
Really? I didn't know that. Oh well, Lingo started to go downhill once they added the unnecessary female co-host. That was during a period when GSN, for some reason, felt the need to add T&A into some of their original programming.
This must of been from December 1986 if it really was 1986, b/c this was when they first used the streamlined format after several months of Scrabble Tournaments over the earlier period of 1986.
I remember this show from when I was a kid. This is from 1986, huh? I was 8 at the time, Chuck W. was a funny host joking with the contestants. They should bring this show back on tv in the 2000's if he willing to re-host it again.
It's somewhere around the house. I certainly don't use it anymore but it has great sentimental value. It talked to me. I used to refer to it as the camera with the tiny Japanese woman inside. The voice that said things like, "Load film" and "Too dark! Use flash." had a distinct accent.
Way to go, Andre! Jennifer was just a little quicker with the buzzer. So what was it like on the day you actually went to NBC to tape your game? What time of day was it? How long were you there for? Did you see any other celebrities? -faux
When i'm playing the game and when my turn starts after my opponent got a stopper after the first of 2 letters (example N or P and she chose N) to pick from was a stopper like the one 2:34 in the video, do i just automatically put the next letter in and then pick 2 tiles or do i have to pick a tile to fill up the board up with 2 letters and then pick the letter i wanted to go for (which will be a P)?
The first 2 years of '80s Scrabble had a pink backwall with blue spotlights, no audience present on camera (yes there was an actual studio audience but no audience pit, yet) as well as a different format for winning the money.
Yes it is, Toltendo. I took it right off the TV when the episode aired, about a month after the taping.
And thank you kojakbald. I ditched the piece about a year after this was done and have been blissfully bald ever since. I still have it, though, in a box in my closet.
Yes that is a blue backwall. All eps. from late 1986 - March 1990 all have a blue backwall. All eps. from July 1984 - late 1986 all had a pink backwall, instead of a blue backwall and had no audience pit on camera.
loved this show as a kid...the theme song, sound effects, chuck, the double entendres i didn't get back then...must have been a great experience for you
You're right, Andre! This IS definitely from 1986! The contestant podium didn't have the pink layers on them yet and two the backwall now changed from mostly pink to mostly blue. Also, the audience pit was added around this time.
You didn't do too bad at all Andre. You actually played the game quite well, and that was a great show. Great show, one that badly needs to be brought back to TV.
I thought... wow that hairpiece is REALLY bad. Then I discovered you werent Jennifer.
Whoops!

If in fact it was taped in 1986, I would have been 23. I wore the "piece" from ages 21-23.
And for the person who asked, the show was taped at the NBC studios in Burbank.
