We were aware that "¿Qué pasa?" doesn't mean "hello" when we taught it to Bibi. We used it because we were concerned about confusion between "hola" and "aloha." We also used "Ciao" rather than "buongiorno" to avoid confusion with "bonjour."
The thing with "Que pasa" is that is very ghetto. Bibi sounds like a Ghetto parrot from la saguesera (little Havana in Miami) But I understand it sounds very similar and most Americans also know the "Que pasa" phrase too. So it was probably the best choice. :)
We do it ourselves. We also answer back whenever she makes an attempt. Some words she picks up very fast, but others seem to take forever. It really depends on her personal likes and dislikes.
