what I do is wrap two matches up end to end with the red tips facing each other, give them a pull to see what one is gunna fire out, tighten the foil round the other hold my fancy candle on a skewer underneath (last time I used a match to light it I bunt my thumb bad cuz it blew up) and they go at least 10-15 metres. :)

you're supposed to wrap the stick around a paper clip so that the gasses can escape through the hole that's left.

I find it works a little better if you use a pin to make a "nozzle". It won't explode as often, and has a little longer/higher range.

Barbecue lighters work much better to light the rockets since they give more fire and you don't get close to the fire.
