  • @llouldeng First off, inbreeding is not a relationship. It is the biological result of incest. And while I don't speak for the gay community, I don't support incest, but as long as it isn't producing inbred children, they're really not hurting anyone. Similarly, I see nothing wrong with a cluster of willing adults sharing a mutual relationship as long as everyone is truly involved by choice. If no one is being hurt, I don't see how anyone's relationship is anyone else's business.

  • @llouldeng I'm not a proponent of either sibling marriage or polygamgy, but it really isn't my place to pass judgement on other people's lives or relationships when their actions aren't harming anyone. It's nobody's business but their own, and I read somewhere "Judge not, that ye be not judged." On a separate note, equating same sex marriage with incest is just as ignorant as likening it to beastiality.

  • The only hate I saw was the protesters at the LA temple. Why aren't you protesting against the most popular President in the history of the country??? President Obama stated marriage is between one man and one woman. Maybe you should go protest in front of some mosques and throw their Korans in the dirt, or in front of black churches!!! It was those groups that made sure it passed......how committed are you to your cause???

  • We may have not won in the election, but this is already going to the courts. Human rights are not dictated by a popular vote. And prop 8 was illegally implemented in the first place. Any measure that would change the spirit of the constitution must first get a 2/3 vote from the legislature before it is submitted to the people for a vote. And the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment states "no state shall ... deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws"

    The Court of Queen's Bench in Saskatchewan upheld a 2001 ruling by the province's human rights tribunal that fined a man for submitting a newspaper ad that included citations of four Bible verses that address homosexuality. Those verse of the BIBLE are now deemed HATE SPEECH! Canada's a lovely place to live...LOL you can keep it!

  • Not only is your argument poorly constructed, it's completely untrue. YOU may define marriage that way, but not everyone agrees with you. By only allowing heterosexual marriage, you take away the rights of same sex couples to marry the person they are in love with. Just because you don't explicitly say you are removing someone's rights doesn't mean you aren't doing it.

  • The 2000 vote you are referring to was not won by 61% of the population of California, it was 61% of the people who voted in the primary election. Primaries are notorious for low voter turnout. The state population was around 35 million people at the time, so the 4 mil. who supported it were only about 10% of the state's population.

    Additionally, your cat doesn't have the mental capacity to propose to you - that's a completely invalid argument.

  • It's not a matter of not being committed to the cause, the propositions on primary ballots aren't advertised nearly as much as in a presiderntial election. I was 15 when 22 passed and I didn't hear anything about it until a year or 2 ago.

    I know the animal thing was an example. My point is that it's irrelevant to the matter at hand. Polygamy and interspecies marriage is not legal NOW, even after 4 months of legal gay marriage. Your union is not jeopardized by the happiness of other couples.

  • This is a fight about equality, justice, and human dignity. Just because you don't agree with gay marriage doesn't mean that it should be made illegal. Amendments to the constitution are supposed to give citizens additional rights, not take them away.

  • Teachers aren't forced to teach anything more specific about marriage other than healthy, supportive relationships. Regardless, homosexuality and gay marriage are realities. So, I don't think it's a negative thing to have teachers impartially educate kids about something that exists. Learning about gay people can't possibly "make someone gay", just like learning about straight people can't "make someone straight".

  • According to merriam-webster's online dictionary, a bigot is a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices ; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance. Denying a group of people of a fundamental right because you disagree with their lifestyle is bigotry, and that is exactly what Proposition 8 is aiming to do.

  • public smoking and gay marriage are in no way comparable. A person who smokes around you is infringing on your right to breathe clean air. A committed gay couple who chooses to get married does not personally affect you in any way. Taking away their rights is not agreeable disagreement, nor tolerance; It is imposing your morality onto them. regardless of your opinion on marriage, it is wrong to amend the constitution to take away the rights of citizens.
