I would get the 2466 if I got a V/M because of more clean headroom. You have to work to get your tone with amp as apposed to keeping your volume knobs on 10 on your guitar. LOL
I like the 100w DSL just a tad better, just like the 2 channel thing.
The Vintage Modern seems to thrive with a Strat. I owned a 2266 for over a year. I LOVED the tone I got with both dynamic ranges; especially a Strat. My Les Paul sounded good on the Low Range, but really thin and harsh on the High Range.
Robin has been my guitar hero since 1980. What I like the most about him was that driven to the edge but still intelligable sound he was famous for. I could only take so much tube burning speaker busting thrash that Hendrix and a lot of metal guitarist thrive on.
@150grnballistictip Trowers older sound is as close to Hendrix as i've ever heard anyone come, obviously Trower doesn't do the whole over the top fuzz thing like like you hear on Some tracks from Are you experienced, or Electric Lady Land, but his sound and Jimi's sound on Band of Gypsies are incredibly close in my opinion.
@thezombiebrew You have to remember that some people have a nut allergy. Also in Germany, people are given a reduction on their insurance if their car is a bright (hence visible) colour.
@150grnballistictip I so totally agree with you. Most of that tube burning speaker busting thrash just gives me major headache; not to mention leaving me in a pissed off condition. I listen to music for a heightened sense of peace and fulfillment or at least to fill like something good has happened. Trowers sound always achieved that sense of well being for me. His tone shape is like from another beautiful world where there is hope and enlightenment.
I love this man! He doesn't hold anything back or hide his playing "secrets" or strut around on stage like some primadonna. Robin plays the guitar to best of his (incredible) ability for us to enjoy. Period. My hero!!!
I have made a living as a live sound engineer for many years. My biggest struggle is getting guitar players to give me a good sound to work with. And of course bringing down the stage volume, lol. I try to explain to them that the 'big fat' guitar sound has nothing to do with volume and effects. I tell them to listen to Trower, come back to me and I will help them get that sound, but the playing is up to them. I like to think that introducing them to Trower has helped many of them become better
@boinkburger I really don't get that... Trower's stage volume is insanely loud. His sustain he gets "old school" by driving the power section of the tube amps. Since he mostly plays the neck pickup for the "woman" sound, that is really what kicks in the natural overdrive and sustain. You can't get that naturally by gaining up the front end of any amp. Trower has an excellent FOH engineer who deals with stage volume perfectly Stage volume is a big issue for FOH if the system isn't up to the task.
@rocketdawg44 Maybe I should have been more clear that a good tone was the goal. Sure stage volume is an issue. But I don't mix for arenas. I mix for clubs, So achieving good tones at respectable stage volumes is a task to say the least. If a guitar player starts with a good sound coming from his stack, we can reduce the volume of the rig by channeling that same sound to a front monitor dedicated to that guitar which helps feed that sustain and reduces stage volume thrown in the FOH mix
As soon as I can figure out where I can steal a couple of these from, I'm going for it. Anybody going on vacation soon that owns these? LOL

@v6n4m0d4 I'd rather see Trower and Frampton - Peter's still got FIRE, and way more still to say on his guitar, as does Robin.
whereas Eric (who I got the chance to meet and admire for his legacy work) seems to be "phoning it in" these days.
