I remember when Van Live at Montreaux was first released-it stayed in my DVD player for the better part of a year-I'd screen it for people and watch their jaws drop at the nuances of Van's voice and the subtleties of his band. I'd then pop in disc 2 and by the time Angeliou came round we were a bottle of vino or two deep and floored by the performance. Van The Man @ his best.
I must throw this comment in, because it is quite silly, but beginning at around 2:13, it sounds like he sings, "Provolone. Provolone down by the window." Haha!
@Mariekesone yup, when you`ve been ripped off in the music biz as bad as Van has you end up werkin` for the rest of your life while assholes get rich on your royalties
@Mariekesone yup,if you know anything about Vans` history then you are aware that he was ripped off in some way ,shape or form at just about evry turn in his early career and it cost him dearly. Poor Van kept on goin` though eh? Tough Irish.
Where did you hear he retired? I think if is true it has alot to do with the intrusion in to his private life last year as we know he does not seek publicity but that only encourages gutter sniffing journalists, I hope he continues for many more years but if it is true thanks for seeing me through van !
of all his peers, van never lost his voice...as pure and clear as the days he began singing..i hear rumours that he has retired, hope not,but if it's true, thanks van for some of the best music i ever heard in my life
@remszi yea totally great songwriting.JeromeRimson looks like hes floating on a cloud of titties,he had heroin problems but it doesnt seem to be affecting his bass playing on this tune `cos its fawking perfect.
Read somewhere that Street Choir was a sort of anthem for Van and I think this iteration of his band. Thanks for posting. Great stuff. His voice is so strong and he presents this version with so much heart and soul. Fantabulous!!!!
