instead of using staples you could just use a bit of a broken pencil, make a hole in the cardboard launcher panel, and thread the elastic band through. might make it a bit stronger

That's why I said maybe just sticking to launching dry objects. ok?  do you understand now?

I will admit that this is not that powerful, Regardless, for a summer toy to make on the fly, and provide enjoyment, that will will do fairly easy. However, the concept and design if very intuitive, and with some material swaps and slight changes to it, this could be a very powerful tool for many uses.
