Are you using the Gosu game development libary? Isn't Gosu a 2D enviroment?
@TheodenN : thanks ! Yes, Gosu is a 2D framework, but I use it only to create the main window, the main loop and to load images / sounds. To render the scene, I use Ruby-OpenGL.

I'd say use a cylinder for the sprites collision ;)
And Ideally, you want the wall disparition to become semi-transparent :P
