did you have to get a pet license to own a fennec fox. Ive researched them for months now btw. so im ready to own one.. just sayin :) also do they shed?
If you took the time to research the animal you should have taken the time to research county/state law. It's fairly easy to tell if a canine is happy or not. Their body language is very easy to read (ear positioning, eye triangulation, tail wagging, eye movement, etc.) Plus, might the bond it has with its owner and the happiness it gets from that interaction be more valuable than absolute freedom? Not to mention the fact it now has assured sustenance and shelter.

@jovialgamer It is not that the owner is intentionally mistreating the animal. It is that these animals deserve to be in the wild where they belong. To keep them as pets is very selfish.
look who is being rude. did YOU ask it if it was unhappy? they make great companions just like any other animal, be it ferret, sugar glider, dog, or fish. not just for a "cute" factor. they were originally encouraged to breed them like that to keep their numbers up. now their kind are doing great again. your point of view seems pretty short-sighted. you think their cute and assume everyone else is wrong for having them. they will always be breed in captivity, wiether we wont them as pets or not

these aren't meant to be pets, who is taking them outta the wild and sticking them in pet stores???? poor little fellas should be running around a forest, not sitting in a cage (or house, or backayard, or any of it)
If you think about it no animal was made to be a pet. A horse was wild running free but people caged them up and now ride them away without anyone saying something right? All animal was wild at one point. Dogs cat everything. but we turn them into pets. So if you say a fox can not be a pet because at one point they was wild then u should unleash every dog cat horse , fish every animal into the wild. I think its animal that a wild animal and a human can live together in peace and love.
if the little thing is happy than i am happy, but how crap i would feel if the the lil fella was sad, yo are right it is a 2 sided story as we pulled animals out of the wild BEFORE and in the PAST this doesnt make it ok to continue pulling animals out of the wild, instead of getting self satisfaction from owning a lil cutie like this, we should strive to get some self satisfaction out of rebuilding and sustaining these creatures habitats, (not driving fuel guzzlers etc.)
If it was raised in captivity, then there is no returning to the wild. It would either die or return home. I do, though, agree that taking Fennecs from the wild is evil.
Also, Fennecs are a desert animal, and are not suited for forests. A Fennec in a forest would be eaten, or would just die.
There's been so much breeding with common house hold pets such as cats and dogs and other animals that they wouldn't survive in the wild =w= I'd like to see someone release all those animals without knowing that they wouldn't survive very long. And it's not like all household pets are suffering from being domesticated. It is true that some pets should be left in the wild, but because of us breeding animals so much some prefer being domestic.
obviously u haven't read my second comment below, first off you know it all, so it is a desert fox... whatever. I don't like the fact that they r a new domesticated animal, someone recently has taken them out of the wild... as to releasing them i understand they would not thrive well at all, but they never should have been taken out of the wild in the first place, so ladyjennalyn.. you keep ur environmental armageddon going by screwing with the natural scheme of nature. FOXES ARE WILD ANIMALS
So were dogs and cats at one point, but nobody thinks twice about gettin them.
"Ah man, I'm gettin a wolf"
"Ah man, I'm getting a black lab"
The only real difference is that one of these animals is domesticated, and one is taken from the wild. That's the exact same arguement between getting a domestic fennec from a breeder, or taking one out of the wild.
first of al, they are not "newly domesticated" they have been pets/guests in homes for quite some time now. by no means are they new to the home enviroment. and second, he was born a captive animal. raised immediatly by hand by humans. it is rare to find a breeder that just up and "took" one from the wild. its the same theory as buying a "wild" fish vs. a "captive" fish.
omg first the fennec fox is not newly domesticated he has probley been a house pet longer then you have benn a live unles ur some sick old perv who like to leave rude comments and u clearly have any cents at all and u did agenst this vid y the hell were u watching it ??

and their NOT, note i said NOOOOTTTT, a new domesticated animal. its been happening a lot longer than you make it sound like. (comment is to mammothsoulja) these animals are allready domesticated, time to move on and actually PREVENT an animal from being domesticated
I'm Doing a Research project on The Fennec Fox, So I need to know what the noise they make is called. And You you would care to share any information on them, Please Message me. Thanks.
@valleyshrew Probably because people are jealous that they don't have a pet so they make pet owners fell bad for owning them, and other people don't know the basic behaviors of a certain animal.
Unhapply there is no fennec for sale in Brazil. (Well, I didn't find any...)
And I live in apartment, so I do not have much physical space for them. Oh yeah, and I don't think my annoying neighbors will be very happy with a kinda loudy animal. :P
fennec foxs arnt really pets... unless you have hours of time and have memorized the numer 911. cute as theyy are they are ALOT of work even if they are domestacated theere still wild at heart
iv heard they are harder to take care of than a dog or a cat and they cost more because they need the right temperature (heating/lights) and they are night animals so yeah...hehe
im not the expert at having them as a pet i just know this from watching other videos and I did a science project on them so yeaahhhh....(:
This is my favorite animal! They are sooo cute that they are too cute for words to describe them! I love them! It is funny how these small canines have very feline characteristics at the same time!
contact your local DNR, also even though they are fennec foxes they are considered a wild animal and fall under the fox category...foxes are controlled by jursdiction so also contact your town/city/village to see if it's okay...for me it was OKAY in my state but NOT okay in my village... ... i moved LOL
omg this is to robeyta where did u get him/her and is it possible in canada i would love one plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz tell me i dont wanna beg but i need to know
If you really just had to know, LOOK IT UP. That's what I've been doing, and I've actually found many many sites- but that was after life 4 months. Haha (because I can't get one now because I can not afford one- so I have just been researching them in the time between.)
But please, if you Really want to get one, please research them and give them a good home. Because I'm afraid by the way you speak that you might not be fantastic as an owner...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
what the hell are you talking about i own 4 healthy happy pets you dont have the right to say shit about me being a bad owner.. and yes i research every animal i get exept a dog cuz i was too young now u can shut ur mouth and i have looked them up im getting one once i move to b.c because i have contacted a breeder there. i am moving after my highschool is finished. so how bout you shut the fuck up bout me being a bad owner how bout you look at some of my animal videos b4 u talk shit asshole.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
First of all I Never said you are/would be a bad owner- I Would have No right to say that, because I Don't know. I said you Might not be a Fantastic owner. That still means you could be a good owner- please take the literal meaning of my words, and not precieve it as an insult.
Now I've lowered my respect for you, but I'm glad you found a breeder, and I'm glad you're moving to get one.
So were dogs, cats, birds and almost all domestic pets at one point. I'm sure this fox has a better life being a pet then it would out in the wild or at a fur farm.
i agree. just because they started out in the wild and have instincts to survive out there it doesnt mean theyre better off out there. as pets, if they have GOOD owners, they are well cared for and have better lives.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Yeah because all animals have a better life in captivity than being free out in the wild. I guess by this (flawed) logic it is the human's responsibility to domesticate all wild animals, for they'd live a "horrible" life otherwise.
(Kind of how it's the White Man's Burden to civilize the rest of the world; also flawed)
dude.... its FINE! I mean i looooove animals but its not like we are torturing the poor things. and about how many ppl do you think even OWN a fennec?!
And who said that domesticating dogs, cats, and birds were good things either? I personally think that they all should have been left in their natural habitat. I am not a fan of keeping them locked up, or even in good cases, taken around everywhere on a leash, still getting to see where they could be by themselves but still not free. And even worse with birds- they no longer get the whole sky. They get 8 square feet. Or a house. But no sky. '=/
I have 2 birds, they never knew what flying in the wild was like, they were born in a cage with their siblings, it`s not like they go around feeling sad or depressed because of that, (in fact my birds are definantly over-joyed) Along with my 2 dogs, and I have no idea how my crayfish feels (which was born in captivity)
Fist of all make sure your state/county/city allows for the owner ship of Fennec Foxes, then ask a near by pet store if they sell them, if they don't ask if they know where the nearest breeder is. You can also do a google search for Fennec Fox breeders but I don't recommend ordering one off of the internet as the shipment could be potentially fatal, try to drive there your self and pick him up. Also, do make sure you can care for the foxes needs, they are a wild animal and need special care.
Depends on where you live. I live in Oregon, and have a fennec, but some states don't allow it. I had to get a permit to keep him, which was $150, on top of the $1000 I paid to get him, and over $200 of vet and transportation costs. They're really quite the investment, not an animal to buy on a whim.

iv heard they are harder to take care of than a dog or a cat and they cost more because they need the right temperature (heating/lights) and they are night animals so yeah...hehe
im not the expert at having them as a pet i just know this from watching other videos and I did a science project on them so yeaahhhh....(:
xbamboocha 3 years ago
oh yeah and in some countries you need like a special ... permit thing or something and they are hard to find... yeaah
oh and they are slowly getting extinct...:'(
sorry random info

This is my favorite animal! They are sooo cute that they are too cute for words to describe them! I love them! It is funny how these small canines have very feline characteristics at the same time!

In a few states it's legal to own red foxes, and I know that here in Georgia you can own a Fennec fox.
chibiwolf1005 3 years ago
how can i find out which states are legal and were are not?
wishuponastar556 3 years ago
contact your local DNR, also even though they are fennec foxes they are considered a wild animal and fall under the fox category...foxes are controlled by jursdiction so also contact your town/city/village to see if it's okay...for me it was OKAY in my state but NOT okay in my village... ... i moved LOL

learnintorobot 3 years ago
If you really just had to know, LOOK IT UP. That's what I've been doing, and I've actually found many many sites- but that was after life 4 months. Haha (because I can't get one now because I can not afford one- so I have just been researching them in the time between.)
But please, if you Really want to get one, please research them and give them a good home. Because I'm afraid by the way you speak that you might not be fantastic as an owner...

First of all I Never said you are/would be a bad owner- I Would have No right to say that, because I Don't know. I said you Might not be a Fantastic owner. That still means you could be a good owner- please take the literal meaning of my words, and not precieve it as an insult.
Now I've lowered my respect for you, but I'm glad you found a breeder, and I'm glad you're moving to get one.

tigggy123 3 years ago
So were dogs, cats, birds and almost all domestic pets at one point. I'm sure this fox has a better life being a pet then it would out in the wild or at a fur farm.
cutiepienic83 3 years ago 6
i agree. just because they started out in the wild and have instincts to survive out there it doesnt mean theyre better off out there. as pets, if they have GOOD owners, they are well cared for and have better lives.
tigggy123 3 years ago 2

Yeah because all animals have a better life in captivity than being free out in the wild. I guess by this (flawed) logic it is the human's responsibility to domesticate all wild animals, for they'd live a "horrible" life otherwise.
(Kind of how it's the White Man's Burden to civilize the rest of the world; also flawed)
demandred753 3 years ago
dude.... its FINE! I mean i looooove animals but its not like we are torturing the poor things. and about how many ppl do you think even OWN a fennec?!
gorillazgirl2006 3 years ago 4
They're probably better out domesticated. They don't have to live in the wild where it could get eaten. They're providing it with a good home.
LyssNyss 3 years ago 3
And who said that domesticating dogs, cats, and birds were good things either? I personally think that they all should have been left in their natural habitat. I am not a fan of keeping them locked up, or even in good cases, taken around everywhere on a leash, still getting to see where they could be by themselves but still not free. And even worse with birds- they no longer get the whole sky. They get 8 square feet. Or a house. But no sky. '=/

i love my cat, my cat loves me. that's all i need to know to keep him my pet, i'll always have a pet cat.
bladethorn 2 years ago
You don't have any pets?
You're kind of just talking out of your ass unless you have rid yourself of all pets to let them "be free"
cutiepienic83 2 years ago
I have 2 birds, they never knew what flying in the wild was like, they were born in a cage with their siblings, it`s not like they go around feeling sad or depressed because of that, (in fact my birds are definantly over-joyed) Along with my 2 dogs, and I have no idea how my crayfish feels (which was born in captivity)

OH MAN That is the most adorable thing I've ever seen D8 I've always loved Fennec foxes, I never knew people could get them as pets <3

Were can you buy those guys? Like.... little ones... babies... I plan on getting one once I get out of grad school.
chewyrox5 4 years ago
Fist of all make sure your state/county/city allows for the owner ship of Fennec Foxes, then ask a near by pet store if they sell them, if they don't ask if they know where the nearest breeder is. You can also do a google search for Fennec Fox breeders but I don't recommend ordering one off of the internet as the shipment could be potentially fatal, try to drive there your self and pick him up. Also, do make sure you can care for the foxes needs, they are a wild animal and need special care.

Thanx guy!
I live in arizona.... but I'm not sure if they allow them there... I've seen a kit fox.... and I've SEEN a fennec in africa.. m...

can yu buy this fennex fox/ if yu can. where?
iversondan 4 years ago
Depends on where you live. I live in Oregon, and have a fennec, but some states don't allow it. I had to get a permit to keep him, which was $150, on top of the $1000 I paid to get him, and over $200 of vet and transportation costs. They're really quite the investment, not an animal to buy on a whim.
