  • here it is -they started out in Aussie-ville with the name Angels. There was a Calif. poofta hair band called Angel with the copyright and Angels was close enough to infringe on it, hence Angel City. When Angel disappeared Angel City went back to origional Angels. You learn stuff reading Creem magazine

  • @01SweetJay lol@'poofta har band' ... so many bands in the 80's could fit under that category. Angel were an Italian-American-angelic version of Kiss and on the same label.

  • i used to love this song at age20, now at age 50 it scares the shit out of me.

  • the best band ever fuck american bullshit

  • The Angels and the Doc. Legends. Goldman Sachs is using this vid for their recruiting campaign.

  • SPOT ON!

  • I know how ya feel, Doc.

  • classic!

  • Actually when they went to the USA there was an old trio of country singing women who already had the name. the City part was added. I have to say the USA produced album was over produced and ruined their sound. The rawness of their sound was one of the great things about the Angels.

  • Personally, I love both versions of this song, whether it's the original or Great White's cover, the song is just flat-out amazing.

  • Please, they were, are and always will be just "The Angels" I grew up with their music in OZ!!!!!!!!

  • Angel City was their real name!!!!

  • @Disgood100 The Angels is their real name. They added 'city' for the US market.

  • ya who does he think he is...angel city my arse

  • @Disgood100 THE Angels! NOT Angel City sheesh!

  • @Disgood100 angel city was their name in america

  • Comparing this to Great White's version is like comparing the 1960's batman to todays. In other words, it's funny as hell, but sucks.

  • @emello4you maybe the video because the Great White version is a lip sink(sp) lol, but the tune itself blows the GW version to hell

  • @MrBlasticus

I get what 'emello' is saying. The Angels did play on a few gimmicks. Perhaps it just wasn't 'Rock 'n' Roll' to have a frontman that looked more like a PI or Health Inspector than a singer. Perhaps it isn't very 'Rock 'n' Roll' that the rest of the band were in their mid 30's, balding, and were playing music to feed their families. Perhaps it isn't very Rock 'n' Roll that they had cut their teeth infront of a tough Australian pub audience for years and actually kick ass today.

  • c'est bon, non c'est excellent, c'est chier bon le rock des kangourous

  • omg 2 weeks ago....HAPPY BIRTHDAY ;)

  • Its my birthday today

  • I have the constant reminder 24/7 of how superb the Angels were thanks to tinnitus in my left ear courtesy of a top night at the Newcastle workers club (pre earthquake of course)- How these guys never ruled the world still confounds me....................

  • These haircuts haven't aged at all! Can't say the same for a lot of other music videos from the 80s...

  • i used to watch these guys live at my local pub in wollongong every week end they rule they are the angels always were always will be

  • @chnalb I remember they played at Northern suburbs Leagues Club Coledale a couple of times back in the late 70's, 80's. I had the privliege of meeting Doc and having my autograph book signed by him. E=mc2 forever!

  • fucking kick arse brilliant and you can shove Great White up your yankee arse

  • LOVe IT GreW Up WiTh this on the box countdown true true youthfull expierence`s thank you to the ANGELS i play your records to this day guys fantastic

  • @mrbishi1000 ,thats right mate ,The Angel's are from Adelaide S.A.

  • They were known as 'The Angels' in Australia and Europe. There was a Washington DC band called 'Angel', so when they releasing material stateside they used the name 'Angel City'. Apparently they didn't want to be confused with the DC band and I don't blame them (for a chuckle, Google 'Angel Sinful'. Nice album cover, guys)

  • @BooYah565 Angel were supposed to be the 'white' (refering to colour of their clothes) version of Kiss (who usually dressed in black) and were an Italian mob - also signed to Cassablanca with Kiss....

They weren't a terrible group - just a little in their time and musically dated. It does amaze me what groups were popular in the US and UK (check out the junk on Top Of The Pops), while so much of our best was virtually ignored.

  • @nzoz1980 mate I couldn't agree more. So much of the old Aussie music was great. I have only been able to properly discover most of it thanks to your uploads here. As an expat Aussie it's been amazing to be able to look this stuff up and really appreciate some of the stuff that was being made back home. It shocks me what is often popular, but then again I love stuff people don't really know. It's always fun playing it for them and seeing what they think.

  • @gav240z like wise. however, i've grown kinda tired and weary of playing some of this and other-great obscure stuff to people... it's often met with a non-response... even some of the aussie music that I play is shrugged off by most at the place I work at in Sydney - only appreciated by some of the older male-co-workers. Nothing moves them. Not Frank Zappa, not old Pink Floyd, not Icehouse, not Stranglers... you name it. They're not moved. The only thing that works in Bob Marley.

  • @nzoz1980 that's a shame mate, don't give up. There is people like us out there. The internet has allowed for this kind of diversity. We used to be stuck with what radio / mtv wanted to play. Now it's when we want it and on demand.

I'm not sure where you work, but I too was once guilty of listening to what my friends deemed "cool". I now know better and listen what I know is actually "cool".

  • @gav240z I thought radio format was a major problem. I thought it limited people's exposure to wider forms of music. But after trying out my more odd CD's at work I've now come to the conclusion that certain songs do work for radio and the less 'disturbed' people are by what radio plays the more the radio benefits. I admit to feeling a little uncomfortable playing the more non-commercial stuff at work.

  • Saw them at the Marquee London in 1980, they were as good as anything in London at the time, I dont want to face the day, Aus rock rules!

  • yesyour right sorry.

  • Great clip ....great lyric , great music ....the epitome of rock -just does not get better.

  • i knew them as Angel City. So many great songs and many great memories of fun times back in the late 70s / early 80s listening to their great repetoire of songs. They should have been as big as any Aussie band on the world stage and on par with ACDC.

  • This is the angels

    Not angel city

And have seen them live many times .

  • doc is a rock god

  • This is Angel City NOT the angels You should hear the Great White version . Moucho better

  • @pencon61 they were The Angels in their homeland, so don't tell us what this group is called just because they traded under a different name in your location.

  • @pencon61 You're an idiot, that's like me telling you Guns N Roses were named Swords N Tulips.

  • @pencon61 Not to be a downer but these really are The Angels sunshine. Aussie rock band from Melbourne relocated to Sydney in their early days. I'm an Aussie and a long time fan and they are my era.

  • @mrbishi1000 hmm... i'm pretty sure they're from Adelaide.

  • @nzoz1980 you right sorry chief

  • @pencon61 PS I like the Aussie version

  • @pencon61 what you talkin about willis?

  • @pencon61 As others have pointed out, they were only called Angel City in the U.S. and this is the best version of the song. I do like Great White's version though.

  • super titre

  • Awesome song, I feel like this most day`s...........lol.

  • fucking good song great white also made a fucking cover version

  • Hahah! Funny :D I didn't even know this song had a video. What a treat :)

  • Haha!! reminds me of me in the morning XD

  • rage.....

  • they still going not to this pace but still cranckin love The Angels

  • no doubt, the best band from down under. These guys rock! Can`t wait to come down there.I doubt they will ever come back to NA so i will just haft to go there.

  • HOLY CRAP!!! For the last 26 years I thought Great White wrote this song!

    I'll be damned.

  • @darthnemesis1 - who?

  • great aussie rock, awesomke memories of the three concerts I saw these guys play

  • awesome doc awesome.

  • he has real emotion goin on,or am i havin a flashback

  • i have seen these guys a least 20 times and every morning after this song was playin in my head haha

  • Greatest Hangover Song ever!!! Play this Wicked Track with a V.B stubbie , a couple of shots of vodka ( or drink of choice ) an opened minded woman , and you will be on your feet faster than you can say " jack robbinsion" . Doc rips threw this like " a man on a mission " vocals are Brilliant and the sound that Rick "The icepick" Brewster chops away on the axe leaves you with The Cour De Tar !!! Finishes it off with prefection.. The Angels !!! Thanks for the song.

  • @VALNUT1 VB = worst beer ever.

If ya can call it beer.

  • if my memo serves me well, this was the very first song i heard from them ... and i was hooked from then on :) 44yo today i am still all ears when i put one of their CDs in the rack ... awesome band !!!

  • cool one of the hardest working live acts in oz music.

  • need more angels threads,i saw them on queens wharf in Auckland, they rocked

  • Here in the states they decided to call themselves Angel City to avoid being confused with 1. California hair band Angel (whose own mothers probably don't remember them), and 2. 60's girl group The Angels (My Boyfriend's Back). My first exposure to them was on a local half hour video show in Green Bay that played the No Secrets video regularly, and it blew my mind. I've loved these guys ever since.

  • Great song. I actually worked in the building the video was filmed at (American Express building, George St Sydney Australia) for 8 years.

  • @MrAdamakakis I worked there too when it became the NRMA bulding!

  • What happened to these guys? They burned out in the early 80's???

  • @leftcoast67 lol, you're on the net, just do some research... Angels (Australian band) on wiki shall provide the answer...

  • @leftcoast67 they got a gig on the 9th october :D Here's the writeup

Back by popular demand, The Angels have hit the road again, promising their fans, "Rock 'n' Roll will never die!!"

In a first for The Angels, the band will perform the whole "Dark Room" album from beginning to end with all of their other hit singles. Don’t miss The Angels returning to RWC’s stage on Saturday the 9th of October.

  • @leftcoast67 You're cracking jokes!!! hahahhahahahahahahha

  • omg.....and i just watched shutter island

  • Very cool...I was only aware of the Great White cover. Excellent song!

  • how good is that.......this is not a question... these guys should have been worldwide huge... what a great song.

  • @dieseldog66 Honestly mate - i reckon they were the most underrated band of all time - every bit as good as ACDC and then some - one of the great mysteries of the world why they aren't on the same page of history - could have been - SHOULD have been - it just aint fair.

  • Brilliant.....

  • i dont wanna face the day...

  • seen this great band, for every tour they did in Canada, awesome, great tunes

  • Saw them at "the Whisky" in hollywood. It was crazy good!

  • @kansascitybomber

I think GREAT WHITE saw them too...lol

  • @kansascitybomber what year? was it supporting the gunners?

  • Comment removed

  • Canada still loves the Angels...

  • Hadn't heard this one before. Thanks NZOZ for another great vid and track. Now I am beginning to think that Mel Gibson must've idolised Doc cos he sure uses some of Doc's expressions in movies hahahahaha... What an awesome voice Doc. And what a wordsmith.

  • @Europagirl01

    Great White covered this tune.

I have a white vinyl EP pressing (Capital Records) radio station promo - not for retail sale copy.

The original is par excellence, the cover is a very very close second.

    Cheers, Frazzo.

  • I love Doc Neeson & The Angels, watched them live a few times, they are fantastic! My fiancee's old school friend manages the band

  • sorry....i have to quote someone else....the thinking mans AC/DC

  • I used to see the Angels for $3.50 at Sylvania Hotel in 1985. Love how Doc had the BEST BLUE EYES and great deep voice. Those are the days when you could go to a pub listen to a band, they would come and drink with you in between sessions love those days. Who these days under 20 can say they used to watch and drink with Angels, Aussie Crawl, 'Ol 55 and INXS before they became famous????? Yep ME ME and ME

  • @janetrhi

I remember seeing them at Newcaslte NSW Aust foreshore in the 90s I think with Cheaptrick. We brought a carton of beer and just drank it the line up to the gate lol.. we had to sell a few beers though...They were the days......

  • this song makes me do sex wee

  • Used to see the Angels for $3 at the Ambassador Night Club in Newcastle. They were very popular here from the get-go. Their lighting was quite unique - dark stage, small pools of light and tight spots. GREAT sound. Good imagery, rather than stories, in the lyrics.

  • I don't wanna face the day..... not without a few brekky bongs!

  • One of my favourite songs xx

  • One of my first memories of watching Countdown was seeing this. I was 8 and Doc Neeson kind of scared me in this, but I loved the song. Not really an Angels fan, but this has got to be one of the best Australian hard rock songs of the period.

  • Story of my life.

Brilliant song and they were THE GREATEST Aussie band ever. xxxDocXXX

  • @zeppelite Anyone who realizes they were the all time GREATEST aussie rock band is my blood brother!

  • @zeppelite AC/DC is the greatest band from anywhere. And Rose Tattoo are the second greatest Austrailian band. These guys don't even sing the best version of their own song

  • Angel City!

  • Please don't call them that

  • saw the THE ANGELS at the PLAYROOM in the 80's at the GOLD COAST nothing better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Agreed that The Angels are musically superior to the Young brothers (ie Angus and Malcolm) who got big brothers help to start with... then kept doing the same old same old... boring

  • fick i love this song am about to go and see the angels at monties in crapramatta cant wait best rock band of all time i laugh at any one who thimks that acdc is better there is no way listen to this song and you know that acdc is shit !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Who the hell is Great White? Doc Neeson = Rock, Greg Norman = Golf and shitting on woman......Did Greg do a version of Face the Day?

  • i think it must be a sign - when i first heard the Angels at 15 I remember i looking at the time on my cheap watch and it was, no bullshit, 3:33:33.

Somebody cue the Twilight Zone theme LOL!

  • i am the 33333 viewer

  • Congratulations. 21 people have viewed this video since you made that post 11 hours ago.

  • @nzoz1980 -- LOL!

  • @mallamoozoo better than being the 666th viewer would feel kinda awkward! :P

  • Can anyone post "the moment" "night comes early" or "wasted sleepless nights"? These are the only songs form the dark room album I can't find on here

  • clock him, block him and clock him again... he'd still come up being stupid. :P

  • lol, i know... can't believe people with such a low mindset can even type in a comment section. At the end of the day, we are the more bless people and he just a moron.

    Bless...

  • get ur mum to whipe ur ass and lick your balls your a wanker this is an awsome song.

  • HAHAHA this sounds like shit compared to Great White's cover

  • you wouldnt know shit

  • Down, you're a fucking idiot ... you just proved your complete utter ignorance by making such a comment. You lack a sense of what good rock n roll is... now fuck off and suck on some Great White's cock.

  • LOVE The Angels.. one of my favorite bands ever! Lotsof great songs... this one is one of my favorites

  • wipe my ass and lick my balls! this one was way too slow, i almost fell asleep =)

  • much the same way you probably fell asleep in class because you were too stupid to follow the lesson. Keep commenting... It's fun putting shit on you.

  • dont waste your time talking to dickheads that dont get the angles mate, they will never understand!

  • man, it's like banging my head against the wall.... so many wankers coming out with shit

  • classic.. absolute classic angels..

  • This is my favorite song by The angels Love it and thanks for posting it

  • Dedicated to my dear dear friend Ginger..

  • After a midnight ride, having a good time...friends...rock...< I'd recorded this song, on to tape...so I had it set to play the next morning driving to work while it was still dark, in the middle of winter...at 6 a.m. Good times...

  • It would be nice to see something other that Doc's freakin' face in the camera. What an ego. Must have been what broke them up.

  • he has more character and flamboyance than the others. you have to have ego when you''re in a rock band, or you'd fail pathetically. i think doc does an awesome job :)

  • @minwav Excuse me, Doc left the band due to a horrific car accident that caused serious spinal injuries. He was told to leave or risk being crippled. They've made an incredible comeback, and Doc ALWAYS gives the others a chance to shine on stage. I know, because I've seen them live more than once and have met them. A lovely bunch of genuine down to earth guys.

  • so this version was before the Great White one?

  • yes

  • Does anyone have a live performance of this ? This is amongst the best Angels song..

  • Damn, the more I think about it I dug these guys even more than the Bon Scott ACDC. Good variety from one tune to the next. Damn, we need more bands like The Angels, Saxon etc. today. No posing, no BS, to hell with the MTV Corporate Music Empire and self imposed arbiter of all that is "cool".

  • Such timeless music and lyrics. I will listen to this for the rest of my life. From the amount of US fans they should take the reunion tour states and show them some classic hard rock Aussie style.

  • Way too fucking cool! Never knew there was a vid to this tune! Man, I forgot how much I loved these guys, the first album (vinyl) I bought I got from the import section at Tower Records in Seattle (before it turned into a stagnant Orwellian PC nightmare). Played the grooves off that sucker!

GREAT tune. Funny, they actually had decent lyrics, not just the cliched "Fuck me baby" tunes.

Thanks for sharing Brother, much appreciation! Ahhh, good, honest hard rock!

  • why DOES it have to be morning?

  • Sydney that is

  • Just walked down past wynyard to get some cigs and had to smile.

I don't want to face the day today.

  • Remember when Utopia records was down in Angel Arcade Wynard? Bid successfully for a rare Angels record there one day - I think its in broadway these days, never the same.

  • One of my all time favorite bands obviously my parents introduced me since i wasnt born until 91 but not doubt they are an amazing band

  • good on ya mate my bro is same age as you, and you yougins need to see these guys live before they stop playing

  • After the screw-ball presidential election of 2008, I immediately thought of this song. In fact, it was playing in my head all day so I had to find it to hear again. I wanted to yell and scream it to all the kool-Aid drinking idiots that elected their god to power. Bunch of motherfuckers, I DON'T WANT TO FACE THE DAY!

  • I agree with you 100%

  • That's an awesome song. I haven't heard it in ages. Thanks for putting this song for all the hung over peoploids.

    "Outside, screaming city

    red lights and hungry eyes

    sucks like a space invader

    the vacuum of it's lies"

    Simply great!

  • I remember hearing this song in the day along with No Secrets here in Portland Or on the local rock station. Been trying to find the Cd for download, but I am unable to find it. Checked Ebay and Amazon, can not find. Oh well.

  • Also over here and in Oz they are The Angels and the album, oops showing my age, CD is Darkroom.

  • Isnt this ANGEL CITY??

  • yes it is Angel City... but over here in Australia they have always been known as The Angels. I didn't consider international viewers when I uploaded Angels videos. I have placed the name 'Angel City' in my Extended Tags section found on my description box.

  • Icehouse were originally called Flowers.

Flowers discovered that there was a band in the US called Flowers so they had to change the name of there band to the name that was on there first album.

  • And Sherbet changed their name to the very cliche 'Highway' for the US market... I'm quite surprised that the Sherbs opted for 'Highway' - as I would have guessed there would have already been US bands under a banner like Highway.

  • I watch this and it kills me that these guys never got what they deserved - "Hall of International Fame" - hell - "Inter-ga-fuckin lactic-Fame" status.

Sure this ain't as strong as the heyday (o' course - that's not physically possible, but it's enough to remind true fans why this was, BAR NONE - the greatest Aussie rock band ever!

I salute THE ANGELS until my dieing day.

Thanks Doc, Rick, John, Buzz, John and also Brent, Jim, James, Bob from days gone by - you were all fuckin great!

  • yea, seen 'em in seattle at the paramont in 81?

  • I always said that you can keep Los Angeles but give me Angel City any day!

    Seen these cats four times.

  • I still rate them as the best live act I have ever seen, and I didn't even know half the songs they played.

  • Why does it have to be morning ? - Love it.

  • pure genius!

  • bow, bow ,bow

  • Triple M in Melbourne on the radio this very minute are doing Angels/Angel City special and interview with Doc. So far we have heard

Comin' Down(from Face to Face),No Secrets(Dark Room) & Let the Night Roll On(Beyond Salvation) a major revival of this band is taking place in Australia. The reunion tour was sold out everywhere and soon we have a Night Attack tour double with Rose Tattoo for only $50 US. Sensational! Like Mr AIQ who saw them in Boston this was Rocks best 'live' band bar none.

  • Indeed mate - this was rock's best live act bar none - NONE. In their day - The Angel were peerless. Even Guns N Roses rated them as heros.

  • amazing song... and they had one hell of a live show in the early 80s. Glad they made it Boston (USA) a few times

  • Saw this video on "Rock World" pre MTV 1980.

  • Favourited, thanks.

  • Go Brewsters!!!

  • Good sh!t man...didn't know who sang this jam. The last time I remember listening to this jam was when I was 10 yrs old, I'm 31 now. Dude THANX!

  • Seen them open for the Kinks @ Memorial Coliseum late 70's -incredible. I think the Paramount in Portland, OR show was the "Catch a rising Star" for like 3.00!

  • Acdc Are AWESOME!

    And so are angels

    cant really compare them together

    I love them both :D

  • I'm sitting here with Angels tickets in my hot little hand.

  • i am sitting here with a angels ticket signed by doc neeson so mehh lol

  • That all?

  • doc neeson

    Woot.

    Angels

    Woot

    :]

  • Doc at his Paranoid Best
