@retrospectkid Type 1 is the original Beetle and Karmann Ghia (rear engine with stand up cooling fan) Type 2 is the microbus, vans etc; Type 3 is the "Squareback Sedan" (Station Wagon) Fastback and Knotchback (Rear engine with flat fan, giving the car TWO trunks, as the engine was under a panel in the trunk< similar to where most cars keep the spare tire now) Type 4 was the 411/412 , basically an "improved" type 3 (but with new styling and ugly as sin)
@TwinklyZulu They will still have the hole in the dash for them to go into. Some bugs that didn't have a radio originally might not have an antenna, so you would have to drill holes.
@TwinklyZulu Cars without radios had a rectangular metal panel that covered the hole in the dash, it featured chrome trim to match the trim on the rest of the dash
Me and my buddy bought a 59 in 69,paid 100,00 bucks and drove from SUDBURY ,all the wat to Prince George B.C,drove the snot out of it,no problems, sold it when we got back to pay for the incurred tickets,noise-no ex.we did,nt even change the ownership, drove 8000 mies in a little over a month..one of the best times of my life!!
She is almost done!! I will have the engine back in her today or tomorrow, brakes will be done and such too today. She will be ready by next week. U interested??

Do beetles that originally don't have a radio still have the outlets for them
(places you plug a radio into) or not?

@TwinklyZulu My Dad's '60 had no radio, there was a body coloured rectangular metal plate where the radio would have been

No, 1959 bugs still had the old 36hp engine. 1200 engine did not come into the bugs till '61.
