MOST of you eager assholes who learn martial arts just to be a champion in fighting, let me TELL YOU THIS, FOR whoever that want to street fight, go ahead, like you're going find any street fight any time sooner, u guys are just FIGHTER WANNA BE, Taekwondo is a different thing, it is a sport, SO STOP SAYING IT IS USELESS IN A STREET FIGHT, IT WAS NOT INTENED IN THE 1ST PLACE THO, SELF DEFENCE? BEST SELF DEFENCE IS TO RUN, there is always place to run when engaged but to lose your dignity only
but think not all TKD schools just teach TKD some add a few Hapkido Techniques to there self defense and to be 100% honest in a street fight you'd be better off fighting a guy that knows Muay Thai and Jiu Jujiysu "MMA Fighter" than a TKD fighter. The speed of a TKD fighter is unrealalistic. I train under Master James Theros and he teaches a combination of TKD, Hapkido, and Kung Fu depending if your in Masters club or not. People say TKD isn't effective in a real fight oh god yes it is!
I totally agree, but put a two-year TKD practitioner up against f.i. a comparably built two-year Krav Maga practitioner, and you'll quickly see what I mean.
It's faster and, at least usually, easier to make Krav Maga an effective form of self defense than TKD, since it doesn't require the same amount of balance and explosive muscular abilities.
I personally greatly prefer the "show off factor" and would choose TKD over Krav Maga! I'm no bigger fan of either, just being realistic about them! ;)
if DIGNITY MEANS a lot to you then fine! ARGUING taekwondo is useless or useful in street fight is just as stupid as arguing fencing is the best way to kill your enemy in a melee weapon battle, STOP DOING THIS SHIT PEOPLE, DONT MAKE YOURSELF LOOK STUPID
TKD is a good sport for self defense i take it and i was taught alot of escapes and take downs as well. but i agree when people say that some schools focus more on competition then self defense but thats not true of all schools
i totally disagree this is the compettition side of tae kwon do , at my dojang we wer taught punches, elbows, kicks, submissions, take downs, weaopns etc... very useful art
Well, it still depends greatly on the dojang.. A lot of them are very focused on competition and not so much on self defense.. I agree that there are usefull aspects in TKD, but it's less than in many other martial arts... Don't misunderstand me ^^
I've been training in TKD for over 8 years know and i have watched many cage fights first hand and known fully that there could easily been more stand up.... have you ever been kicked by someone who really knows how to do a proper kick? its almost always a knockout kick. you are also not getting a very good idea what TKD is truely about watching this video this just sparring. No disrespect to anything that you train in though :)
It's not sparring it's point kicking. They just throw there legs out there trying to get a point rather then trying to get a knock out that's why they lose their balance or almost do. But TKD is one of the more practical martial arts that you could use in a real fight, that goes for BJJ as well.
This is what is known as Olympic Style sparring. it goes for one minute continuous with out stops and the only way to score points is by making the person move they are known as "shocking blows" thats why you don't see many punches cause its hard to get a good punch that will make them move without hitting them to the face. And there are at least 3 judges watching every match keeping score
Hehe, I know by personal experience that TKD-kicks are very powerfull, I won't argue with that! =)
You have to remember that in a real situation, it's rarely practical and AFAIK never suggested by self defense trainers/teachers to deliver high kicks for KO's.. The abdomen, or in some rare cases the chest, would be the highest I'd probably ever aim a kick myself, but since it'd make me less stable, I'd probably consider other options first..
I agree that this video doesn't show TKD at it's best
I totally agree with you unless you know who you are going up against. which would be awesome to know when you got into a fight :P
all im saying that tkd kicks done properly can take someone out before you even know it and with the right tenique that kick can be delivered to the head before the person even knows what hit him.
but of course in a real situation im not gonna first go for a head kick but a kick can be done and you can still keep your stability fairly good
I totally agree with you too, but there's quite an obvious paradox in that statement: IF you really manage to get that KO-kick in before he knows what hit him wouldn't that make YOU the attacker? ;)
I just have to say this before I get flamed by someone again: Yes, I'm just fooling around! The question isn't meant to be too serious, it's meant to make you all laugh a little, or at least put a little smile on everyone's face! =D
Enjoy life, smile a little more! It really isn't harder than that!
..Are they allowed to throw punches? I know TKD isn't very strong in the boxing area, not even sure they teach punching, but I've never looked into it, I practice muay thai and jiu jitsu myself.
these are all great athletes. and the ending part was really sad because of the ending to the games as well as the journey. all of them work so hard to get there and to represent their county and in the end only one person will take first in that competition amazing vid, intense at the beining and then a big big twist at the end. great work. i don't know if anyone has some of the sparring matches, but i'd really like to see some of them. please do share.

i think you are missing the point...taekwondo may not be the most effective in street fights..but taekwondo was made strictly for defense(like any other martial arts) some people are dumb enough to think that martial arts is used to be the superior one...
and trust me...people who know taekwondo know how to fight even with their fists because tkd has strict rules whereas streetfight
the fighter can apply all he has without any rules
I know its a lot harder than it looks, but it seems like they are just throwning a few different types of kicks at each other and hope they get lucky and make contact. I would like to see them try to read their oppenets move rather than comin out kicken everywhere, the fight at 4:49 was pretty impressive though.
That was Oscar Salazar, from Mexico, one of the most talented TKD fighter, his family is full of champions, you'll see more of him and his sister, Iridia on the next OG in Beijing 2008
Does TKD work in a street fight.. i dont know. rogelioonce and what happen after u keep pushing them off with ur kicks ?? SONGS BS to me... u say GANGSTERS thats more than ONE... wont they all jump on u ?? and beside if they are GANGSTErs wont they have guns or knife ?? WTF .... lol sorry ur story songs BS to me.
dude this is the sport version of the art, this "style" isnt what is effective... its a SPORT. the original taekwondo was a military martial art witch used alot of soft point striking mixed with powerful kicks with military boots... and of course rifles and knives
yea i know that ... and ? rogelioonce says he beat ppl up with his kicks in A STREET FIGHT. How many times have u seen some one kick in a street fight that won ? and fighting more than 1
lol my very large muay thia friend has many times. and i have also. and kicking isnt a bad thing, dont kid yourself into thinking that kicking doesnt work in a street fight, you just need to kick to the leg or the ribs. if it works in the ring it will work on the street.you just need to be good at boxing to balance it out
Yea... NOT fighting like 4 vs 1 Of crouse kicking works in a fight in 1 on 1... whats happens if u kick in da ribs and 3 other guy rush u .. get in to ur face when u cant use ur range ? then what ? i m a MMA fighter i train with Randy the UFC champ.. in legend gym Hollywood.... he says DONT KICK IN A STREET FIGHT because if ur fighting more then 1 ur dead. I m sure a UFC fighter would know wtf he ism talking about.
i wasnt talking...to u. PPl below says they beat up GANGSTERS in a street fight. LIKE 4 vs 1 with TKD. so i ask them how can u when ur pushing ppl off with ur foot and others rush u ? they say they can beat up like 4 ppl in a STREET fight with kicking LOL.
lol so what, kicking DOES work in a street fight, fuck what he says... ive done it just dont kick above the solar plexis, it takes 7 pounds of pressure to break the knee from the front. FUCK what he seays.... do a lil side snap to the front of the knee if they dont have it bent completely and it will hyper extend and break.... again... fuck him
SO how is this... going to help fighting 4 guys ?? u gonna ong BAK everyone ? WOW u know ur facts... Great lol.. u fought like 4 vs 1 before and u break all their BONES WITH UR KICKS RIGHT ? WTF sure u can... i m sure kicking WORKS in a street fight in is a low kick but i m ALSO SURE U CANT BEAT 4 guys RUSHING U WITH KICKS.
I was attacked by a couple of gang bangers..it was me nd my friend...i stoped them with side kicks..they didnt know wtf to do...they kinda froze cuz every time they steped in they got a kick on his stomach...i didnt beat them up but i didnt take a beating either
dude actually a POOMSA is a imaginary fight that you do alone, its like in boxing they fight their shadow the same for taekwondo n' for the word KATA=方 is for karate wich has the same meaning
Knowing this, what's the point of blocking? This game tests you in your ability to adapt to your opponent. You may have someone who is defensive, you might have someone who is completely offensive, you might have a mixture or a kicker or a really smart player and you need to be able to change your game in order to get the upper hand.
adapting to... your own rules... not to outsider rules... I for one, would have a hard time adapting to tkd rules because I've noticed, when drilling thigns I don't usualy do, I go strait to what feels natural for the situation... but we were talking about adapting to a street fighting situation... not your own rules...
But then that is the beauty of training in the martial arts. Because once you have trained for so long, a few months, a few years, whatever... everything starts to become 'natural motion'.
When that happens you find your own way of moving, of kicking or punching or grappling. Who in the world has the exact same style? If you were in a street fight, then another, and another and another, would you come out of each one unscathed? Would you last all the way through? I'm saying i doubt anyones ability. Everyone has the potential to have a high ability. But so few of us have the ability or the potential to adapt.
This game is fast as you saw. You need to be able to block quickly, or move quickly or you will be scored on. However, blocking is not always the best way to go. E.g, if you block, let's say 3 times in a row, and your opponent has noticed this, he may throw his kick as to go low, but then switch it to a high kick instead. Or take the first one low then the second one high in a flurry.
There is so much technicality in this game. For example, falling over. You aren't allowed to kick a fallen opponent. So if you can score on them and fall, they can't score on you. Another point would be guard. A competition guard should be 1 hand above the front knee, 1 hand in line with the solar plexus. Bottom hand is used for blocking short kicks to the front or flank, back hand for deep kicks to the front and deep face kicks.
but nowadays... if u score a point (or at least appear to do so) and fall down intentionally, or if the falling assisted your technique, then it won't be scored - in theory
tkd and muay thai and itf tkd are completely different. In muay thai you can kick to the legs, use elbows and knees. In itf tkd sparring you can't kick below the belt or use elbows or knees.
The largest strenght but yet the biggest weakness in TKD has to be the spinning high kicks with full weight thrown in. If it misses, you fall, shown as in 3.11, if it hits, you have a good chance to knock your opponent out, shown as in 3.50.
Lots of kicking skill, incredible speed. But one can see how tkd artists like these fall against good muay thai artists. Bad habits like the extremely low guard and the constant falling endanger the practioner much too often.
*Aware Also I was talking about street fighting and I watched some of your little semi-contact videos. if you call that punching, you're retarded. I wouldn't Box with a Boxer, I wouldn't kick with TKD. If you are trying to argue you can punch, anyone can punch according to you. Punching "perfectly" or close to it, is a different story then. I don't know where your attack on me came from when I was talking about street fighting, wasn't arguing style vs style, but style and street practicality.
those semi contact guys come from different styles...even muay thai...Raymond Daniels it's undefeated in full contact ( kick boxing ) and yeah that semi contact style helps you gain foot work and your deffensive skills...like i said...I box and kick and trust me in a fight all you need is technique..and no im not attacking you but im saying any top fighter at the top of their sport surely know how to fight good and to me street fighting aint shit
I guess my other comment didnt get posted but i was saying that tkd and muay thai are very simillar..tkd is supposed to have knees and elbows but the North Koreans made it an olympic sport...The south koreans allow face punches and they have more of a kick boxing style...go to my page and then go to my favorites and click on serkinjan it's a kick boxing video and you'll c why i like the olympic style also you mix it with boxing is all good
the turkish guy? yeah I watched alot of his stuff, looks cool, however in his hight light, the one against masato, he lost, but he did land some nice stuff, it's apealing to the eye... as for your style and it being the fighter... that can be argued by a grappler vs anything that's only stand up... Style is always a factor, but so is the fighter... there has to be a balance
yeah he lost by dec...grappling is good and it's something every one should learn but i preffer the stand up...if you have good endurance no one should take you down...i havent seen crocop get submited...but it's always good to learn how to spar different styles
not so much endurance but technique, and knowing how to defend, like when Cro Cop was still a noob in MMA, he got taken down with almost ease, but now... after geting the ability to defend down, he's crazy
you got it backwards, i do ITF style the old style from the 60s and it is 50/50 hands and feet, and it uses alot of knees and elbows, the WTF made the sparring rules you see here you got it backwards, ITF=north WTF=south
If you play W.T.F. style TKD long enough, your sparring experience, speed and distance control are amazing. Its very hard for anyone to touch you. As your watching these clips remember that a lot of the techniques here are simpler because this is the olmypics they are playing on the rules to win like boxing. If you watch the world cup its a lot more fast and fun
I practice TKD and I gotta admit, tkd is more "sport" than martial arts. All fights eventually end up going to the ground. But its a great way to stay in shape and relieve mental stress!
what? so you say tkd isnt martial arts...fights go to the ground if you let them go to the ground and trust me in a street fight before you submit somebody the fight will be broken apart
this is retarded just about all of the kicks could have been blocked if the had any type of guard up. there were o lot of places where someone in a real martial art would have busted the guys knee when his foot was up on his shoulder.
yeah you are right but get in a real fight with someone who can throw 10 kicks in three seconds... by the time you throw a kick to the knee you will have 3 in your face and on a real fight they dont have to follow rules they would do the same to your legs and really mess up your knees
I guess most of the reason those guys are able to kick eachother so easily is because they are both in range (both trying to hit the other guy), what is to stop me from dodging side ways and waiting for the guy to stop kicking? Seriously, i'm not trying to put down tkd, it is a serious question.
ok if you were fighting me...and you move to the side i cut the ring and stop you with a round kick depending on what side you moved..trust me this guys know what they are doing...saying tkd sux it's like saying boxing sux because they just punch or jui jit sue sux because they are all about submisions...most of the greatest fighters in MMA are so great because they mastered a style before they join MMA
tkd has issues... boxing is better on the streets because everyone have punching feaver... tkd, when used against someone who's got no idea what they are doing on the streets sure, or doesn't know how to deal with kicks... JJ, on the streets... is good fro 1 on 1... anymore and you are screwed... overall street wise of those you said boxing is best... but I say MT all the way for streets, mixed with some BJJ
lol for your information Tae Kwon Do means the way of the hand and the feet...tae Kwon do do have punches...this is just a tournement style...i train TKD and yes we punch to the face and trust me I dont care what style you do but if you fight a top tkd fighter he will woup u
I'm away of TKD and that they punch, it's about 20/80 punch/kick, as my friend was telling me, he was in TKD. I've been around watching how TKD is done, it took me 1 year(17-18) and a bit, to be able to have the same fighting ability as someone who has 10 years of TKD(8-18) that's just sad. but now you are trying to argue "top fighters" I'll throw a Top Muay Thai person at you, and you'll surely die. Who would hold a better chance? You might be able to run more, and I might be able to fight more
I am tkd and boxing...I train Under a kick boxing world champion who's primary style was tae kwon do...we punch to the face and follow up with punches after every kick...you can throw any muay thai guy at me...their boxing isnt good and their foot work isnt there..they fight to straight...yeah I love muay thai but i dont c me getting hit by one of those guys unless they mix it with something else
I'll agree with you about their boxing ability if they are from thailand, they do have bad punches because they believe, why punch with a glove when you can elbow... as for the rest of the world generaly is influenced by western boxing, and do work on their hands more than in thailand and you said follow up kicks with punches, it'd the genrealy the other way around in thai boxing I believe. What's the name of your trainer? it's also a different world when you clinch, knee, low kick, and elbow.
So you're basically saying tkd is ineffective? Would someone really fight on the streets like they do in a tkd tournament? Honestly, grow up, only an idiot would do that. I train with international tkd fighters and none of them, if faced with confrontation on the streets would ever fight like they do in the ring. Do you really understand what you're saying?
and I think you were trying to be offensive but then withdrew in the end, there's no need to apologise, ability to adapt is a major issue for tkd, if you can adapt ok, but other styles and stuff, have areas covered that most street fight end up being sooo... thats why I was bashing tkd...
you are right, the majority of tkd people are arrogant, but no more arrogant as the BJJ people. i have never been disrespected as much by a group of "martial artist" than those people, and you are right, adaptation is a problem for tkd people because they dont usualy cross train as i do witch makes me better than the average tkd artist
yeah, I'm sure BJJ people too are arrogant, being the "masters of the ground"... I've acualty only been disrepected by TKD prople, that too pained my unliking of TKD but I did at one point want to try it out, but didn't like it because you have all these belts, and you don't jump into the fire as fast. I know basics of BJJ, but much prefer standing.
well, the thing with ranks and belts is a tradition. the belts signify what kata or poomsa or form you are currently trying to master before you move on to your next rank after the time limit/ amount of training hours has been reached. iam sure you have never done a kata before.... they are a mental exercise and get increasinly difficult as they progress.
nope, iuno what's a kata, I'm guessing it's a korean word? belts bother me, because most people relate belt color with how good the fighter is, and it's nto always true... but, whats this "kata" you're talking about, I meditate sometimes on my off time...
In addition to that, it doesn't matter what style you have in a fight. What matters most is you're ability to adapt. When your opponent contracts, you expand, when they expand you contract. Talking big and bashing practicality of styles means nothing. I'm not trying to be offensive and apologies if I have offended.
I"m not sure what comment you're repplying to because it's not loading for me, but anyway, you're saying you woudlnt' fight like you would in the ring? and I think thats why I says it has problems, because people with TKD go aroud talk smack, and when face on the street, their training almost is rendered useless other than fitness and some other stuff...
I'm a competition player in tkd, but if faced with a real fight, I know to watch punches to the head. That's why tkd players don't have their hands up - no punches to the head. But anyway, the fact of the matter is that in my club we have practical training. We practice specific things to build our skills. When I say practical training, I mean we practice things that will actually help us, in a fight and in competition.
For example, here's a competion drill: move in kick, clinch and hold. Obviously if you did that in a real fight you would get punched in the head. Obviously the majority of tkd you see is competition stuff. How many fights have you seen involving someone who knows tkd?
I saw a few "back yard boxing" with TKD basicaly UFC?Pride stlye but with boxing gloves, there was the TKD buddy I went to school with and other TKD ppl I've trained with... erm, kicking and then clinching isn't all that bad, considering the clinch is what I enjoy the most because you can capitalize with knees...
exactly, becuase ppl who study martial arts is for self defense, the last thing they want to do is fight, becuase if they did fight, they woudl kill the other opponent. Fighting is only to defend ones self, everything else can be solved through words.
I don't... when I first started I was egar to shut people up about how good they are because they street fight... even since then, I just watch, and try to tell my friend what to dom because 90% of the time they don't know what they are doing, fighting is entertaining, also street fights in general are funny to watch. I'm "back up" but I haven't jumped in yet, even when they were getting beat, I would just break up the fight and say it'd over...
but yeah i belive that to fight you need to be able to use every part of your body. and i personally love all the styles out there but it's not the style it's the fighter and every top fighter could be succesfull in full contact no matter what style they done
well the thing is u can do that but time goes fast and the peeple are trained to kick as much and as fast as possible thus not giving u a chance to do it
Hahah WTF is all Show and NO GO!!! if u watn soemthing real do ITF and dont waste ur time u even friking wear chest protectors for gods sakes... can u say wussy much???
Its not about how tough you are, i would rather WTF because of the chest protectors, the pain is only to make the sport worse. The sport is already dangerous enough from the head kicks. The WTF taekwondo sparring is more of a unique style of martial art sport.
in the ring im an animal and i dont see a friend i see an opponent that i will crush, be this way and you win. but thats just in ring, after the fight im the cuddliest guy ever.
can u please email this video to me it will help me i would lyk to watch this so it can pump me up on my ipod going to vietnam for the junior world champs
What's this music? its SlipkNot?

Tae Kuan Do is a fine martial art, especially for it's kicks! You gotta love the TKD kicks!
But if we talk about usefullness... I'd quote Wing Chun Kuen as the top martial art! (no sports included, only effective martial arts)

these are all great athletes. and the ending part was really sad because of the ending to the games as well as the journey. all of them work so hard to get there and to represent their county and in the end only one person will take first in that competition amazing vid, intense at the beining and then a big big twist at the end. great work. i don't know if anyone has some of the sparring matches, but i'd really like to see some of them. please do share.

i think you are missing the point...taekwondo may not be the most effective in street fights..but taekwondo was made strictly for defense(like any other martial arts) some people are dumb enough to think that martial arts is used to be the superior one...
and trust me...people who know taekwondo know how to fight even with their fists because tkd has strict rules whereas streetfight
the fighter can apply all he has without any rules

I know its a lot harder than it looks, but it seems like they are just throwning a few different types of kicks at each other and hope they get lucky and make contact. I would like to see them try to read their oppenets move rather than comin out kicken everywhere, the fight at 4:49 was pretty impressive though.

SONGS BS to me... u say GANGSTERS thats more than ONE... wont they all jump on u ?? and beside if they are GANGSTErs wont they have guns or knife ?? WTF .... lol sorry ur story songs BS to me.
check TKD vs MMA on youtube is kind of scary.
binchow 4 years ago
dude this is the sport version of the art, this "style" isnt what is effective... its a SPORT. the original taekwondo was a military martial art witch used alot of soft point striking mixed with powerful kicks with military boots... and of course rifles and knives
ogreatone 4 years ago
yea i know that ... and ? rogelioonce says he beat ppl up with his kicks in A STREET FIGHT. How many times have u seen some one kick in a street fight that won ? and fighting more than 1
binchow 4 years ago
lol my very large muay thia friend has many times. and i have also. and kicking isnt a bad thing, dont kid yourself into thinking that kicking doesnt work in a street fight, you just need to kick to the leg or the ribs. if it works in the ring it will work on the street.you just need to be good at boxing to balance it out
ogreatone 4 years ago
I m sure a UFC fighter would know wtf he ism talking about.
binchow 4 years ago
uhmm...this isn't a street fight.nor is it mma,Even though I do TKD I also watch MMA,UFC is the best
Taekwondohayley 4 years ago
i wasnt talking...to u. PPl below says they beat up GANGSTERS in a street fight. LIKE 4 vs 1 with TKD. so i ask them how can u when ur pushing ppl off with ur foot and others rush u ? they say they can beat up like 4 ppl in a STREET fight with kicking LOL.
binchow 4 years ago
lol so what, kicking DOES work in a street fight, fuck what he says... ive done it just dont kick above the solar plexis, it takes 7 pounds of pressure to break the knee from the front. FUCK what he seays.... do a lil side snap to the front of the knee if they dont have it bent completely and it will hyper extend and break.... again... fuck him
ogreatone 4 years ago
SO how is this... going to help fighting 4 guys ?? u gonna ong BAK everyone ? WOW u know ur facts... Great lol.. u fought like 4 vs 1 before and u break all their BONES WITH UR KICKS RIGHT ? WTF sure u can... i m sure kicking WORKS in a street fight in is a low kick but i m ALSO SURE U CANT BEAT 4 guys RUSHING U WITH KICKS.
binchow 4 years ago
seriously if 4 guys rush me i use the ancient and deadly art of smith and western or i use knives..
but on 1v1 or 1v2 kicks to soft points that are low are very effective and applicible
ogreatone 4 years ago
street fights?yeah, but in TKD you would probably get a gamjang or something...I like Rugers btw..that was my dogs name, now he's in heaven though..

JinLost 5 years ago
Knowing this, what's the point of blocking? This game tests you in your ability to adapt to your opponent. You may have someone who is defensive, you might have someone who is completely offensive, you might have a mixture or a kicker or a really smart player and you need to be able to change your game in order to get the upper hand.
electricmanja 5 years ago
adapting to... your own rules... not to outsider rules... I for one, would have a hard time adapting to tkd rules because I've noticed, when drilling thigns I don't usualy do, I go strait to what feels natural for the situation... but we were talking about adapting to a street fighting situation... not your own rules...
BJJMTF 5 years ago
But then that is the beauty of training in the martial arts. Because once you have trained for so long, a few months, a few years, whatever... everything starts to become 'natural motion'.
electricmanja 5 years ago
When that happens you find your own way of moving, of kicking or punching or grappling. Who in the world has the exact same style? If you were in a street fight, then another, and another and another, would you come out of each one unscathed? Would you last all the way through? I'm saying i doubt anyones ability. Everyone has the potential to have a high ability. But so few of us have the ability or the potential to adapt.
electricmanja 5 years ago
This game is fast as you saw. You need to be able to block quickly, or move quickly or you will be scored on. However, blocking is not always the best way to go. E.g, if you block, let's say 3 times in a row, and your opponent has noticed this, he may throw his kick as to go low, but then switch it to a high kick instead. Or take the first one low then the second one high in a flurry.
electricmanja 5 years ago
There is so much technicality in this game. For example, falling over. You aren't allowed to kick a fallen opponent. So if you can score on them and fall, they can't score on you. Another point would be guard. A competition guard should be 1 hand above the front knee, 1 hand in line with the solar plexus. Bottom hand is used for blocking short kicks to the front or flank, back hand for deep kicks to the front and deep face kicks.
electricmanja 5 years ago
but nowadays... if u score a point (or at least appear to do so) and fall down intentionally, or if the falling assisted your technique, then it won't be scored - in theory
pessimist 5 years ago
that really depends on the referees though...

tkd and muay thai and itf tkd are completely different. In muay thai you can kick to the legs, use elbows and knees. In itf tkd sparring you can't kick below the belt or use elbows or knees.
Tunturispouli 5 years ago
roger tunturi, we all share same interests.
Deki76 5 years ago
The largest strenght but yet the biggest weakness in TKD has to be the spinning high kicks with full weight thrown in. If it misses, you fall, shown as in 3.11, if it hits, you have a good chance to knock your opponent out, shown as in 3.50.
TimeMillah 5 years ago
Lots of kicking skill, incredible speed. But one can see how tkd artists like these fall against good muay thai artists. Bad habits like the extremely low guard and the constant falling endanger the practioner much too often.
Virtuouskilling 5 years ago
*Aware Also I was talking about street fighting and I watched some of your little semi-contact videos. if you call that punching, you're retarded. I wouldn't Box with a Boxer, I wouldn't kick with TKD. If you are trying to argue you can punch, anyone can punch according to you. Punching "perfectly" or close to it, is a different story then. I don't know where your attack on me came from when I was talking about street fighting, wasn't arguing style vs style, but style and street practicality.
BJJMTF 5 years ago
those semi contact guys come from different styles...even muay thai...Raymond Daniels it's undefeated in full contact ( kick boxing ) and yeah that semi contact style helps you gain foot work and your deffensive skills...like i said...I box and kick and trust me in a fight all you need is technique..and no im not attacking you but im saying any top fighter at the top of their sport surely know how to fight good and to me street fighting aint shit
rogelioonce 5 years ago
I guess my other comment didnt get posted but i was saying that tkd and muay thai are very simillar..tkd is supposed to have knees and elbows but the North Koreans made it an olympic sport...The south koreans allow face punches and they have more of a kick boxing style...go to my page and then go to my favorites and click on serkinjan it's a kick boxing video and you'll c why i like the olympic style also you mix it with boxing is all good
rogelioonce 5 years ago
the turkish guy? yeah I watched alot of his stuff, looks cool, however in his hight light, the one against masato, he lost, but he did land some nice stuff, it's apealing to the eye... as for your style and it being the fighter... that can be argued by a grappler vs anything that's only stand up... Style is always a factor, but so is the fighter... there has to be a balance
BJJMTF 5 years ago
yeah he lost by dec...grappling is good and it's something every one should learn but i preffer the stand up...if you have good endurance no one should take you down...i havent seen crocop get submited...but it's always good to learn how to spar different styles
rogelioonce 5 years ago
not so much endurance but technique, and knowing how to defend, like when Cro Cop was still a noob in MMA, he got taken down with almost ease, but now... after geting the ability to defend down, he's crazy
BJJMTF 5 years ago
yeah, i was surprize randleman knocked him out tho...that was crazy
rogelioonce 5 years ago
you got it backwards, i do ITF style the old style from the 60s and it is 50/50 hands and feet, and it uses alot of knees and elbows, the WTF made the sparring rules you see here you got it backwards, ITF=north WTF=south
ogreatone 5 years ago
and back in the day, it was used for warfare... hhmmm everything gets watered down these days
BJJMTF 5 years ago
then I have to get this out of my system,no offence towards ITF.GO SOUTH!!
Taekwondohayley 4 years ago
lmao i did ITF tkd for a long time
ogreatone 4 years ago
If you play W.T.F. style TKD long enough, your sparring experience, speed and distance control are amazing. Its very hard for anyone to touch you. As your watching these clips remember that a lot of the techniques here are simpler because this is the olmypics they are playing on the rules to win like boxing. If you watch the world cup its a lot more fast and fun
Redknight13 5 years ago
a winning is only delcared if you KO someone in my books =)

I practice TKD and I gotta admit, tkd is more "sport" than martial arts. All fights eventually end up going to the ground. But its a great way to stay in shape and relieve mental stress!
briansle 5 years ago
what? so you say tkd isnt martial arts...fights go to the ground if you let them go to the ground and trust me in a street fight before you submit somebody the fight will be broken apart
rogelioonce 5 years ago
nah, not broken apart... other people jumping in, but thats about it... I've watched alot... kinda was yelling what to do, but meh

flamingo kick, auahauhauhauha, that was nice!

i love that ax kick...im trying to get flexible enough to throw it like that
rogelioonce 5 years ago
Olympic taekwondo is about getting points, so guarding isn't the best way to do things.
Gotoh 5 years ago
this is retarded just about all of the kicks could have been blocked if the had any type of guard up. there were o lot of places where someone in a real martial art would have busted the guys knee when his foot was up on his shoulder.
jdbnntt 5 years ago
yeah you are right but get in a real fight with someone who can throw 10 kicks in three seconds... by the time you throw a kick to the knee you will have 3 in your face and on a real fight they dont have to follow rules they would do the same to your legs and really mess up your knees
rogelioonce 5 years ago
I guess most of the reason those guys are able to kick eachother so easily is because they are both in range (both trying to hit the other guy), what is to stop me from dodging side ways and waiting for the guy to stop kicking? Seriously, i'm not trying to put down tkd, it is a serious question.
zukzukzuk 5 years ago
ok if you were fighting me...and you move to the side i cut the ring and stop you with a round kick depending on what side you moved..trust me this guys know what they are doing...saying tkd sux it's like saying boxing sux because they just punch or jui jit sue sux because they are all about submisions...most of the greatest fighters in MMA are so great because they mastered a style before they join MMA
rogelioonce 5 years ago
tkd has issues... boxing is better on the streets because everyone have punching feaver... tkd, when used against someone who's got no idea what they are doing on the streets sure, or doesn't know how to deal with kicks... JJ, on the streets... is good fro 1 on 1... anymore and you are screwed... overall street wise of those you said boxing is best... but I say MT all the way for streets, mixed with some BJJ
BJJMTF 5 years ago
lol for your information Tae Kwon Do means the way of the hand and the feet...tae Kwon do do have punches...this is just a tournement style...i train TKD and yes we punch to the face and trust me I dont care what style you do but if you fight a top tkd fighter he will woup u
rogelioonce 5 years ago
I'm away of TKD and that they punch, it's about 20/80 punch/kick, as my friend was telling me, he was in TKD. I've been around watching how TKD is done, it took me 1 year(17-18) and a bit, to be able to have the same fighting ability as someone who has 10 years of TKD(8-18) that's just sad. but now you are trying to argue "top fighters" I'll throw a Top Muay Thai person at you, and you'll surely die. Who would hold a better chance? You might be able to run more, and I might be able to fight more
BJJMTF 5 years ago
I am tkd and boxing...I train Under a kick boxing world champion who's primary style was tae kwon do...we punch to the face and follow up with punches after every kick...you can throw any muay thai guy at me...their boxing isnt good and their foot work isnt there..they fight to straight...yeah I love muay thai but i dont c me getting hit by one of those guys unless they mix it with something else
rogelioonce 5 years ago
I'll agree with you about their boxing ability if they are from thailand, they do have bad punches because they believe, why punch with a glove when you can elbow... as for the rest of the world generaly is influenced by western boxing, and do work on their hands more than in thailand and you said follow up kicks with punches, it'd the genrealy the other way around in thai boxing I believe. What's the name of your trainer? it's also a different world when you clinch, knee, low kick, and elbow.
BJJMTF 5 years ago
So you're basically saying tkd is ineffective? Would someone really fight on the streets like they do in a tkd tournament? Honestly, grow up, only an idiot would do that. I train with international tkd fighters and none of them, if faced with confrontation on the streets would ever fight like they do in the ring. Do you really understand what you're saying?
electricmanja 5 years ago
and I think you were trying to be offensive but then withdrew in the end, there's no need to apologise, ability to adapt is a major issue for tkd, if you can adapt ok, but other styles and stuff, have areas covered that most street fight end up being sooo... thats why I was bashing tkd...
BJJMTF 5 years ago
you are right, the majority of tkd people are arrogant, but no more arrogant as the BJJ people. i have never been disrespected as much by a group of "martial artist" than those people, and you are right, adaptation is a problem for tkd people because they dont usualy cross train as i do witch makes me better than the average tkd artist
ogreatone 5 years ago
yeah, I'm sure BJJ people too are arrogant, being the "masters of the ground"... I've acualty only been disrepected by TKD prople, that too pained my unliking of TKD but I did at one point want to try it out, but didn't like it because you have all these belts, and you don't jump into the fire as fast. I know basics of BJJ, but much prefer standing.
BJJMTF 5 years ago
well, the thing with ranks and belts is a tradition. the belts signify what kata or poomsa or form you are currently trying to master before you move on to your next rank after the time limit/ amount of training hours has been reached. iam sure you have never done a kata before.... they are a mental exercise and get increasinly difficult as they progress.
ogreatone 5 years ago
nope, iuno what's a kata, I'm guessing it's a korean word? belts bother me, because most people relate belt color with how good the fighter is, and it's nto always true... but, whats this "kata" you're talking about, I meditate sometimes on my off time...
BJJMTF 5 years ago
In addition to that, it doesn't matter what style you have in a fight. What matters most is you're ability to adapt. When your opponent contracts, you expand, when they expand you contract. Talking big and bashing practicality of styles means nothing. I'm not trying to be offensive and apologies if I have offended.
electricmanja 5 years ago
I"m not sure what comment you're repplying to because it's not loading for me, but anyway, you're saying you woudlnt' fight like you would in the ring? and I think thats why I says it has problems, because people with TKD go aroud talk smack, and when face on the street, their training almost is rendered useless other than fitness and some other stuff...
BJJMTF 5 years ago
What I meant was that if I was ever in a fight situation, I would never bouncing up and down in front of someone with my hands down.
electricmanja 4 years ago
I'm a competition player in tkd, but if faced with a real fight, I know to watch punches to the head. That's why tkd players don't have their hands up - no punches to the head. But anyway, the fact of the matter is that in my club we have practical training. We practice specific things to build our skills. When I say practical training, I mean we practice things that will actually help us, in a fight and in competition.
electricmanja 4 years ago
shut the fuck up g
4464nicolas 4 years ago
what's up with you?
electricmanja 4 years ago
For example, here's a competion drill: move in kick, clinch and hold. Obviously if you did that in a real fight you would get punched in the head. Obviously the majority of tkd you see is competition stuff. How many fights have you seen involving someone who knows tkd?
electricmanja 4 years ago
I saw a few "back yard boxing" with TKD basicaly UFC?Pride stlye but with boxing gloves, there was the TKD buddy I went to school with and other TKD ppl I've trained with... erm, kicking and then clinching isn't all that bad, considering the clinch is what I enjoy the most because you can capitalize with knees...
BJJMTF 4 years ago
i am tkd and some gangstards were trying to jump me and i kept push kicking them...they didnt know what to do
rogelioonce 4 years ago
exactly, becuase ppl who study martial arts is for self defense, the last thing they want to do is fight, becuase if they did fight, they woudl kill the other opponent. Fighting is only to defend ones self, everything else can be solved through words.
sami3am 4 years ago
anyway if you are a muay thai fighter why would you waste your time in street fights?
rogelioonce 5 years ago
I don't... when I first started I was egar to shut people up about how good they are because they street fight... even since then, I just watch, and try to tell my friend what to dom because 90% of the time they don't know what they are doing, fighting is entertaining, also street fights in general are funny to watch. I'm "back up" but I haven't jumped in yet, even when they were getting beat, I would just break up the fight and say it'd over...
BJJMTF 5 years ago
but yeah i belive that to fight you need to be able to use every part of your body. and i personally love all the styles out there but it's not the style it's the fighter and every top fighter could be succesfull in full contact no matter what style they done
rogelioonce 5 years ago
well the thing is u can do that but time goes fast and the peeple are trained to kick as much and as fast as possible thus not giving u a chance to do it

Its not about how tough you are, i would rather WTF because of the chest protectors, the pain is only to make the sport worse. The sport is already dangerous enough from the head kicks. The WTF taekwondo sparring is more of a unique style of martial art sport.
