what the fuck has secretariat got to do with zarkava ????
fucking hate it when people bang on about the past regarding these sorts of things. it's like talking about the greatest footballer of all time. people go on about pele and yeah he was amazing, but is he really better than zidane? maradona? cruyff? platini? messi? ronaldo?
personally, i don't think so. people get sentimental about horses that they've loved etc, but at the end of the day, it's personal preference!
@Pillian - Forget Personal Preference. Personal Preference was how the 2010 American HOTY award was won. If it was realistic, and based on performance then the 2010 BCC winner would be the 2010 HOTY. I mean after all he did win 3 highly rated Gr1 race's, and a Gr2 to add for shits and giggles. But naa give it to the Sentimental choice. The fact that Seabird's absolute greatness, and highest ever Timeform is being challenged is a joke. Unless Frankel has something to say...he is at 142...
The ligne droite de Sea Bird in the Arc was one of the most glorious moments of all history. Perhaps, the most difficult and selective Arc of all times too....
If this trend on distaffers continues where they are constantly beating the boys they actually might have to look at the set-weights allowances. Zakava, Goldikova, Black Caviar, Zenyatta, Makybe Diva, Sunline, Rachel Alexandra, Vodka, Buena Vista etc. etc. The list goes on.
Zarkava was beyond words. For me, the greatest filly ever in course. No other one could match her. And I mean Dahlia, Allez France, Zenyatta, Ruffian and so on. And one of the 10 top "horses"of all times, in a pantheon where we can read names like Sea Bird ( the one and only), Ribot, Nearco, Secretariat, Yatasto....
@gaycarioca Of course Zarkava was great - Secretariat was in her bloodlines, and he's the only horse worthy of the title "the one and only", not Sea Bird. Did Sea Bird ever win a race by going each 1/4 mile faster than the previous one, from start to finish? That's was Sec did at Derby and Belmont. The way Secretariat won Belmont, showed his unique and umatched ability on the track - he was still accelerating when hit the wire, at the end of a 1 1/2 mile race in very hot conditions. cont.
@gaycarioca Did Sea Bird ever make such a "suicidal move" (Andy Beyer) as Secretariat did at Preakness, when he went from last to first early in the race, passing horses like they were standing still? Was Sea Bird as versatile as Secretariat on the track? The latter won from the inside, giving up huge ground on the outside, on the lead, from far back, in between horses. He proved his three losses at 3 were flukes by killing the field and setting records after each loss. He was superior to all.
@TicinoParadise But the thing is, was my comment half as funny as yours? You are hard to understand. I've seen you make comments on the Secretariat MOW Stakes vid, and on Ghostzapper and Tizway videos, praising these US horses nicely. And here you are saying Sea Bird and Ribot would blast Sec?! It would certainly be a close race between the three on turf, as Sec was widely regarded (including by you) as a great turf racer, and his giant stride seemed suited to this surface. cont...
@rcschumann - Yes Secretariat was great on Turf, but great is not the best. He was the best horse to run in American racing, with Ghostzapper, and The Bid right on his heels. I still say Seabird, and Ribot would beat him...IMO. Glad to see you follow me from video to video.
@TicinoParadise Ghostzapper, the Bid?! How about Dr. Fager right behind him, with Easy Goer a close third. Yes, if it wasn't for those two lousy rides by Pat Day, EG may have won the Triple Crown. Watch him in the Gotham and Belmont, no to mention the Woodward and Whitney. And I will always believe Secretariat to be the best ever. Did you know that Timeform's own Simon Rowlands (head of Research and Handicapping) personally gave him a 153? I have the link if you want it.
@TicinoParadise To continue: I made the original comment on here a long time ago, and my views have since changed regarding horses of different nations - great racehorses should all be appreciated. Also, the fact that I'm of German origin (and born there) helped contribute to my recent open-mindedness. Here's hoping Danedream wins the Middle Distance award! I think she deserves a little higher than 128 for her stunning Arc performance.

I love both zenyatta and zarkava! It would be amazing to see them race together in a race! that woulda been a show! and maybe throw in rachel alexandra.. them 2 big Z's woulda destroyed rachel (yes i like rachel but i like the Z's better!)
And you know that for a fact? Rachel A. is brilliant in everyway, She is as superior to Zarkava and Zenyatta. They are all the top of their class. Zenyatta-Older Horse, Rachel A-Younger Horse, and Zarkava simply being the Queen of Europe ^^
How come the Zenyatta fans can´t watch a race video without stating that; "Zenyatta is better" ? Zenyatta is amazing, but No way in hell she´s better than Zarkava.
@Azzawakhe yes my friend totaly agree i think zarkava was miles better than zenyatta...its amazing how soumilon never even had to use the whip on her she was unbelievable....i would rate her equal to sea the stars who both would have beaten zenyatta
@Azzawakhe, For the record, I'm a huge Zenyatta fan. That said, I'm also a realest. Azzawakhe, you, my friend, are 110% correct. Zenyatta is amazing. But there's no way in hell her closing kick could've countered the turn of foot that Zarkava possessed. I'll probably have about 1000 nasty-grams in my e-mail box now from American racing fans for making this comment. LOL. But I'm just keeping it real. Zenyatta's great in her own right. No doubt. But Zarkava was just phenomenal, and unbeatable.
@GBeret83 I 100% agree with you on Zarkava and Zenyatta. Great racemare though Zenyatta is quite honestly I would place Zarkava comfortably ahead. Her Vermeille was utterly spectacular and Zenyatta never faced the quality Zarkava faced in the Arc. It is not to denigrate Zenyatta but frankly her kick was laboured nad slow mo compared to Zarkava.
i loveu zarkava, there is no equal, shes has so much class, i was on at 8's for the arc, i was also on her for every one of our classics but she stayedin france, no bother to me, she is the greatest filly and possibly the classiest horse i will ever see

Not quite the same but Lammtarra was by a Triple Crown winner, Nijinsky, out of an Oaks winner, Snow Bride. What a horse he turned out to be. Brave as a lion.
u know, Lammtarra seems to be underrated, well not underrated but dosent get the mentions that sum do. i believe New Approach is in the same mold, wont be remembered like Zarkava or Sea The Stars, but hes the toughest colt ive seen, i think hell be a great sire and i cant wait for his nice 2yos firt time out at good prices. dont forget, Jim Bolger will get the pick of his first crop!!!!!!!!!
I know what you mean. I can only speculate that it's because he appear sparsely, even by modern standards. Wasn't the Derby his first run as a three year old? So that's June. Then July for the King George and October for the Arc. Not enough exposure for so many people to form an attachment?
