  • only real men can listen to this cover without exploding

  • I'm gonna go grab a Keith's (we pronounce it Keets here) and drink it to this in pride.

  • HOW I WISH I WAS IN SHERBROOKE NOW.

  • I love the Stan Rogers version (the original), but after finding this band I have to get all of their albums now.

  • It's been six years since we sailed away...and I JUST MADE HALIFAX YESTERDAY!

  • Fuck America. God Bless Nova Scotia xD

  • I love being a Nova Scotian.

  • Actually not sure what I think about this.... As good as a metal cover of Stan Rogers could be, I suppose!

  • HAHAHA holy crap. I love Stan Rogers but this is pretty hilarious.

  • @BrighamHB Yeah this is fun but I can't take it too seriously. The original Stan Rogers version is legendary.

  • @TristanandIsolt Well I don't think this is really meant to be taken seriously... you can't call yourself a pirate metal band and expect to be taken seriously.

  • this is pretty cool, but nothing beats stan rogers. proud to be a maritimer (cape bretoner here)

  • @bassdave1234 yeah, goddamn right buddy i LOVE CB

  • I was wondering when they'd get around to covering this song.

  • When I heard there was a metal cover of a Stan Rogers song, I thought I would despise it worse than AIDS. Thank you for proving me wrong, Alestorm.

  • So glad... i am from Nova Scotia, Repping Halifax yo

  • Very different from what I used to (Stan's or other folk singer's rendition), hilariously well done!

  • Alestorm are pretty good generally, but this is a dreadful rendition of Barrett's Privateers.

  • @SamildanachEmrys To be fair, how the hell else could Alestorm do it?

  • Hab's net ganze Nacht lang im Suff gehört - göttlich!!!!!!!

  • Stan Rogers version is the best, but this is awesome, took me totally by surprise!

  • Thumbs up if this song made you wish you were in Sherbrooke.

  • I honestly expected them to butcher the original folk renditions, like most bands do. But i must say, I liked their version, good job lads!

  • Wade Barrett's Privateers :)

  • im in halifax

  • YARGH~!!!!

  • I WISH I WAS IN EDINBURGH NOW!

  • I WISH I WAS IN EDINBURGH NOW!

  • Gaberlunzie's version still the best but excellent that this superb songs gets another outing. As I said to my two year old daughter "where's your Buccaneers? On your BuccanHEAD of course!"

  • fav song from this album :D

  • @lemler33 You and me both.

  • i never liked metal but that was..... FUCKING SWEET

  • It's actually

    God damn them all

I was told we'd sail the seas for american gold

Fire no guns - shed no tears :P

  • When I first heard this song I thought it was damn awesome...then I heard him say Heri Joensen and I was like "OH HELL YEAH!"

  • i bet that stan rogers would have loved this

  • okay time to make a time machine and go back to 1778

  • God damn them all

We were going through the sea for american gold

and fire no guns- AND NO TEARS

Now im a broken man of the Halifax pier the last of barrets privateers

  • This song smells like get some.

  • Heri Joensen is in this? Fucking sweet.

  • I really like this cover, but Stan's version will always be the best.

  • Oh. great cover.

  • So many Nova Scotians probably jizzed themselves over this.

  • @MrMissZombiie

Nova Scotia as in Canlanders, right? Us Canadians, yes?

  • @MrMissZombiie I just got excited when they talk about "American gold"

  • Sup ryEng

  • Irish Descendants are the original people who did this song

  • @rote223 Actually it was Stan Rogers who wrote and originally did this song.

  • @jasumirp Well maybe i should do more research :P

  • Comment removed

  • @rote223 Stan Rogers wrote it as a sea chanty that he could sing leads for. It's been covered by many including the Irish Descendents.

  • An awesome cover of a classic song. Cheers from Halifax.

  • I wish I was in Sherbroooke nooooow

  • It's a bit of a trip to hear Alestorm sing about my town (Halifax). Great stuff.

  • Heri's solo is just AWESOME!!

  • With an Hihiho and a Hihihey ;)

  • Halifax girl here; I fucking love this. Long live Pirate Metal!

  • @KaeAlexandria I wish I was in Halifax now:D

  • I wish I had that ablum.

  • this. is. my. favorite.

  • Haha, so much memories of listening to this song on the radio every Sunday morning :D I love Newfoundland radio <3 And pirate metal definitely does this song justice!!

  • arrrgh! great song to swab the deck maties!

  • sorry but barrett's privateers doesn't work as pirate metal

  • @MrRandomPerson does for me^^

  • @MrRandomPerson

I'd have to disagree. This cover, at first hearing, isn't much of an homage as it should be, but if you really pay attention the melody does fit to a degree that sets a rather adventurous mood to the song. The chorus' melody also does seem to work as well, and I like the powerful yet subtle transitioning in the song at every point. But the only real problem I have with this version is the vocals. The shanty feel to the original still beats these vocals any day.

  • @AngryIntellectual : That really has to do with taste. I think they are both great, but it depends on what you look for in a song. Both are good drinking material, and this has a bit of a heavy set feel.

The best part about a cover, is taking something else that you like, and making it yours. This fits Alestorm.

  • Halgonian here. This is fucking awesome.

  • Hahaha...this would be fun to listen to at the Alehouse...Hail to Hali

  • i live in Halifax, NS.... and i demand that Alestorm come here, to play this...

everyone would go apeshit.... oh the "ape-shittery"

  • What does he said before the guitar solo...i can't understand it..."Ladies and Gentlemen...mister..." ? :/

  • @Merandril the says "Heri Joensen" who is the lead guitar for the viking metal band Tyr

  • Baretts Privateers is a song written by a man called Stan Rogers who was from Halifax Nova Scotia. It's a song about a ficticious group of privateers, obviously Alestorm enjoyed it and covered it :) The original is much, much different. Stan Rogers made some excellent music, and tragically died in a plane crash.

  • @Atremious

he was not from halifax or even nova scotia for that matter.

  • @Atremious Strictly speaking Stan Rogers didn't die in a plane "crash". He was on Air Canada flight 797 when the pilot reported a fire on board, and made a successful emergency landing at Cincinnati. However by the time the aircraft came to a stop the fire and smoke was so bad not everyone was able to escape, only 50% of the passenger and crew survived. Stan was among those who perished. According to some report, he was last seen helping other fellow passengers escape.

  • Hail from Halifax!!! This cover made my morning. Thanks Alestorm!

  • FUCK YES!!!!!!! HAIL FROM HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA AKA NEW SCOTLAND!!!!!! ALESTOM PLEASE SET YOUR SAILS FOR HALIFAX ONCE MORE!!!!!! p.s.Sherbrook's still the same... you really woudnt be missin much

  • YAARRR! And anyone caught calling us "Barrett's Privates" will be made to walk the plank!

  • @SsnakeBite don't you mean privateers?

  • @ReyColons619 don't make me explain the joke...

  • @SsnakeBite Oh I got it now, even though it doesn't make sense, privateers were governments' people/ships that were used during wartime, they weren't pirates,so no YARRR or plank...

  • @ReyColons619

well they where like goverment pirates.

  • We need some colonial metal from alestorm!

  • Wow, this is awesome.

  • Heri makes this song go from fucking awesome to FUCKING EPIC! Hail Tyr

  • yeah i like barrett m107 as well

  • could anyone tell me the story behind the lyrics to this song? I know its a cover but its so epic!

  • @123jacoboshea look it up in wikipedia. it's completely fictional, although pretty acurrate historically. its about privateering.

  • Heri Joensen! I loved seeing Tyr and Alestorm sing the Wild Rover together.

  • FUCK YES CANADIAN PRIDE! And the fuckers have the nerve to not come to vancouver......

  • I hope Alestorm sings more American Revolution songs !!

  • @nyrmetros I hope not

  • Well, Kamelot with Alestorm supporting, but fuckit, it's an Alestorm show to me. =)

  • Veritas, Alestorm has a Canadian leg to their upcoming tour, they're ripping through Ontario and Quebec. I'd love to get to the Toronto show but it's going to be tricky =)

  • I never thought I would hear a non Canadian band cover this song. Greatest drinking song ever.

  • I WISH I WAS IN SHERBROOK NOW!!

  • I hope Alestorm comes to the Maritimes, just so I can hear this track.

  • Definitely, I will not be a pirate and I'll buy this album!! \m/

  • As another Haligonian Alestorm fan, I must concur. And now I must go rock out.

  • @yqg Is'nt the Halifax mentioned in the song the one in England?

  • @yqg Nevermind i looked into it... it makes sense cause there is'nt a pier in the english Halifax ;)

  • As a Haligonian Alestorm fan, I love this song to no end.
