I went on it in the 80's 3 times in a row at the end of the day when it was quiet. Fantastic experience. All you could see was the dangling spaceman in the middle of the ride who started out above you until you spiralled up above him. No other lights on that I could see... at the top and alien head lit up and told you to 'hold tight'. Then you wizzed down and around in near total blackness not knowing which way you would go next. Brilliant.
Space mountain in Magic kingdom (Orlando florida) was one of the best most fun rides i ever went on. Was it the fastest no, the highest no, but its so much fun.
Themeing is also top notch. Sadly alton towers themeing sucks balls, its true dont try and defend it.
BlackHole is definately no longer being used but i was there recently and the dome the ride was in is still there, apparently its going to be used for a new ride possibly in 2013

My mum was on this ride, and her "safety"Belt, snapped, my auncle had to pin his legs around her, until the ride had come to an end. - This IS a true story, I Swear to god. :|
See all the huge trees at alton towers? NOTHING is aloud to be built over the top of them, they pushed there luck with Oblivion, so dont be expecting anything huge or phenemonal.

Pleasure Beach re-opened space invader later on with improved safety belts.

You may be mistaken with "Space Invader" and BlackPool pleasure beach a similar indoor space rollercoaster where a young Child un-did their seat belt and stood up during ride which decapitated them. This was NOT The BlackHole at Alton Towers.

I remember going on it a couple of years before it closed and thinking how bad its state was. The tenting was coming away from the uprights in some places... though they apparantly fixed that a couple of weeks later.

Sadly, everyone seems to remember The Black Hole as being better than it was. It was a draughty tented structure, what few lighting and sound effects there were hardly ever worked, there were no inversions, the track was always in disrepair and you had to squeeze two people in each train section in a very intimate way. It was Space Mountain on the cheap.
It was a nice coaster, it's just a shame they did fuck all with it. Could have been way better! I remember everyone coming out of it making their hands into claws and doing monster sounds. Even though I thought it was a bit shit, me and my cousin did the same to the poor bastards waiting to get on it! =D

I went to Alton towers and one of the memberz of sarf showed me inside black hole tent they use it for storage now and in the winter they store enterprise in there but there still are bits of track in there and I sore car 3 aswell and this was in the summer 2009
@jessandjon05 a kid never stood up on this ride. it had H&S issues with the lift stairs and evacuation procedures . Also it was getting old and hard to maintain
The ride is still in the tent just not assebled so in theory Alton Towers could re- open the ride. Wish they did and got it refurbished, it was such a classic.

@coolcabbage43 Not only Health and Safety... the fact that Alton Towers couldn't be bothered to spend the money on it to bring it up to H&S specs. They could have done it if they wanted to... but they deemed it too expensive.

Hi guys, i spoke to the guy at altont owers today and he said that they have took it all down and are using the room as a storage room now, and corkscrew is in there at the moment.

THE BLACK HOLE - Check the construction video - It was a METAL COASTER! So no WOODEN BEAMS to Hit! It also used ELECTRIC RESTRAINTS which you could NOT REMOVE until the ride was over.
No not scary at all. If I remember correctly it didn't even go upside down. It was a bit unique though, being indoors and dark. A bit of a laugh but not worth cueing more than 20 minutes for.
I can tel you that i know the director of the black hole who is an expert in roller coaster design and he is working on a all new black hole but will not be sure if he will get the go ahead on contracts with any of the theme parks in the uk. Keep a listen out for 2010 - 2011
God I still miss Black Hole, such a thrilling ride which was also my first ever 'proper' roller coaster ride.
As far as I'm aware, the track is still in the tent gathering dust (It was to head to Brazil but the deal was called of for some reason) so It is poissble to re-build it again but what ever this rumour of a new coaster going into the tent should be intresting but is likely just another rumour.
I would rather them re-build black hole than any other ride , it just would'nt be right having a different ride inside the tent.
lol my first ''proper'' coaster was corkscrew , i did'nt want to go on the Black Hole because it was dark , this was when i was very young , and i was scared of the dark xD

@coolcabbage43 Not only Health and Safety... the fact that Alton Towers couldn't be bothered to spend the money on it to bring it up to H&S specs. They could have done it if they wanted to... but they deemed it too expensive.

@luccy that is a load of bullshit the coaster itself has been removed from the park so dont start chatting lots of bullshit they would never redo the ride it wouldnt pay off and another thing if it was they wouldnt be working on that yet because sw6 then there is atleast a 3 year gap between the next major project nufff said end of story

Yer i live near oakwood and the only reason they kept hydro open was because the girl took her seat belt off and stood up to wave to her m8s so she fell and luccy102 they aint rebuilding it there taking it down slowly as it is a unstable deconstruction

THE BLACK HOLE - Check the construction video - It was a METAL COASTER! So no WOODEN BEAMS to Hit! It also used ELECTRIC RESTRAINTS which you could NOT REMOVE until the ride was over.
A death by Unbuckling was IMPOSSIBLE!

It was on national news in the UK.
The rider (a teenager) unbuckled their lap-belt, fell out of the ride and broke their neck, dying instantly.
Alton Towers had a history of safety-related issues prior to 1995 when a modernisation programme took place.

No not scary at all. If I remember correctly it didn't even go upside down. It was a bit unique though, being indoors and dark. A bit of a laugh but not worth cueing more than 20 minutes for.

I can tel you that i know the director of the black hole who is an expert in roller coaster design and he is working on a all new black hole but will not be sure if he will get the go ahead on contracts with any of the theme parks in the uk. Keep a listen out for 2010 - 2011

God I still miss Black Hole, such a thrilling ride which was also my first ever 'proper' roller coaster ride.
As far as I'm aware, the track is still in the tent gathering dust (It was to head to Brazil but the deal was called of for some reason) so It is poissble to re-build it again but what ever this rumour of a new coaster going into the tent should be intresting but is likely just another rumour.

I would rather them re-build black hole than any other ride , it just would'nt be right having a different ride inside the tent.
lol my first ''proper'' coaster was corkscrew , i did'nt want to go on the Black Hole because it was dark , this was when i was very young , and i was scared of the dark xD
