That is not quite accurate. The Pawnee saw their service as a part of their own continuing warfare against the Sioux. The Sioux had invade their land and killed the Pawnee years before the American army had trouble with the Sioux. What is very sad about this is the manner the Pawnee were treated by the settlers whom they helped protect. The locals did not care who were hostiles and who were friendlies. It certainly smacks of racism.
The American Army are good in using native tribes to fight thier own War. They did the same thing in the Philippine American War 1899. US Army used the native group in the Philippines the Macabebe as Scouts in the US Army. They were the unpopular group of people back at home because what they did in that war siding with the Americans.
I have read about this situation and it is disgraceful. The Pawnee people gave so much tremendous service to our country and it is so very very sad how they were treated. The Pawnee trail of tears from Nebraska to Oklahoma was certainly a path of sadness. Thank you for sharing this video with us.
Requiem in pace.
