Whether you can understand the language or not, Sir Salif Keite's music has a universal meaning of its own; that of: love, peace, happiness, nature, and human understanding. In his music, these are the elements that truely count.....that's why I consider him a true African Legend.
This is my song, Gosh, I can't believe I lost his dvd and all his CD's. It's killing me.
If you have a problem watching this clip, just let it run like that for the first time to its full 6:59 then replay it - you will not have the problem again. I hope you understand what I mean. The music is sweet, the instruments original African instruments - let sweetness come. Thank you for posting this wonderful clip.
I have a feeling in understand what the man says though. Weird feeling, as if I had actually spoken the language in a distant past before the slave ships picked up my ass.
excactly..u may love someone and he may not feel the same with u...i may not understand the words but i feel them... donc la chanson parle par rapport la greque et le malien :)!!!nbife trop...mmm
I am Malian but Salif is hard to translate sometimes because he s a purist when it comes to the mandingo language, most of us from the capital are more used to the diluted, slang like, version. From what I can gather he s talking about his lost love, he sending his greetings to her via messengers (travelers by whatever means (bike, car, plane). He mixes it with some hard to translate proverbs, as purists usually do. Hope this helps.
hey... I love this music! I like the language too, I mean I don't understand much but I would like to learn Malenke and Wolof. I am coming to Africa in few months hopefully. Are those languages hard to manage?
I don't know much about Wolof but Malinke or maninka kan (to be more accurate)is learnable, actually dyula, an offshoot of malinke, is one of the most widely spoken languague in Western African. Therefore, it shouldn't be too hard for u to learn, I actually met American Peace Corps who speak hard-core malinke and bambarra (another offshoot). Good luck, it will open a whole new universe to u :).
He has the most mesmerizing voice. It's just beautiful. I wish I understood what he is saying. Anyone care to translate? Please? Even just a little bit of it. Love this man and his music.
please can somebody send the new video or clip of salif keita especially the title " katolon" because the one we have here is not that gud it stops a lot
let us make sure that we support these wonderful artist on here so. so they can keep doing this beautiful art for the world to have and essence and vibration of peace flowing thru. give thanks..
Breath taking and so wonderful a video. Salif Keita's music is so overpowering and one goes places just listening to those sweet melodies and voices.Keita is my number one in all of Africa.
yup from mali....what can I say dont give me signs i know its good i dont need yr approval this is what africans are all about watch and learn something i just sharing with the youtube community thats all
salif is great and is music is strictly african, especially manding.he plays here in a pure griot style.hear at the kora, it just evokes great feelings.this is a music for elite souls.
Not related to this video, but can someone who knows post the lyrics to "Mandjou"? I've read online that it's a song of praise to a leader who went on to become a ruthless dictator. The song's still fantastic though. Thanks
Salif Keita defied tradition by becoming a musician. He is a direct descendant of Soundjata Keita, who founded a kingdom Mali in 1240. As a member of the Royal Family in Mali he caused an uproar and protest as he chose his path as musician. Amazing, charismatic artist, recognized as a major African artist and he is very well known and respected as a musician outside of his country as well.
but today i ask someone that knows his family n the person told me that his parents stay in Mali 4 a while but they r origin from Guinea.his father rejected him bcz they use to say that if u r light skin then is u r white.sop he grow up in the street n singing...
You can choose to sing in any language you want, no matter where you come from. Why does there have to be restrictions on variant forms of communication?
can someone write the lyrics and the meaning of it, pls.I dont understand even one word of the song, but i havent listened such meaningful song these days
je sais pas mais grace a ce son , je ne ressens plus que du bonheur lorsque jentends ce son et ce instrument en bas est tellement bien joue que je reve : merci bcp keita je recommande ce son a tous , une des grandes voix de l'afrique
