  • Whether you can understand the language or not, Sir Salif Keite's music has a universal meaning of its own; that of: love, peace, happiness, nature, and human understanding. In his music, these are the elements that truely count.....that's why I consider him a true African Legend.

  • If you have a problem watching this clip, just let it run like that for the first time to its full 6:59 then replay it - you will not have the problem again. I hope you understand what I mean. The music is sweet, the instruments original African instruments - let sweetness come. Thank you for posting this wonderful clip.

  • I have a feeling in understand what the man says though. Weird feeling, as if I had actually spoken the language in a distant past before the slave ships picked up my ass.

  • It's sweet music though one may not understand the words, just like many of his love songs - sweet and simple. The ladies look natural and lovely.

  • nice tune mann. can somebody tell me d name of this women

  • This song is super!!!!

  • WHY DOES OT KEEP STOPPING!!!!!!!!

  • i really love this songe its just so nice..

  • I am Malian but Salif is hard to translate sometimes because he s a purist when it comes to the mandingo language, most of us from the capital are more used to the diluted, slang like, version. From what I can gather he s talking about his lost love, he sending his greetings to her via messengers (travelers by whatever means (bike, car, plane). He mixes it with some hard to translate proverbs, as purists usually do. Hope this helps.

  • hey... I love this music! I like the language too, I mean I don't understand much but I would like to learn Malenke and Wolof. I am coming to Africa in few months hopefully. Are those languages hard to manage?

  • I don't know much about Wolof but Malinke or maninka kan (to be more accurate)is learnable, actually dyula, an offshoot of malinke, is one of the most widely spoken languague in Western African. Therefore, it shouldn't be too hard for u to learn, I actually met American Peace Corps who speak hard-core malinke and bambarra (another offshoot). Good luck, it will open a whole new universe to u :).

  • @Taagama You don't speak your own language? I'm sure you speak perfect French!

  • hes saying car person airplane person and bike person

  • He has the most mesmerizing voice. It's just beautiful. I wish I understood what he is saying. Anyone care to translate? Please? Even just a little bit of it. Love this man and his music.

  • Not related to this video, but can someone who knows post the lyrics to "Mandjou"? I've read online that it's a song of praise to a leader who went on to become a ruthless dictator. The song's still fantastic though. Thanks

  • Salif Keita is one the gratest African singer of all time. His style and performance have always amazed me. Beautiful song!

  • Salif is a genuis!

  • he's better than 50cent or Michael jackson. anyway it's my opinion.

  • Everything is better than 50 cent or Michael Jackson :)

  • that is right

  • I don´t understand a word of the song, but it is so beautiful, that it doesn´t matter to me: I love it!

  • Salif Keita defied tradition by becoming a musician. He is a direct descendant of Soundjata Keita, who founded a kingdom Mali in 1240. As a member of the Royal Family in Mali he caused an uproar and protest as he chose his path as musician. Amazing, charismatic artist, recognized as a major African artist and he is very well known and respected as a musician outside of his country as well.

  • nice song

  • he is from Guinea that's why....

  • he is from mali

  • u're right he's a malian guy

  • so if he is from Mali,so why does he sing malinke then...

  • 'cause even in mali they do speak malinke

  • but today i ask someone that knows his family n the person told me that his parents stay in Mali 4 a while but they r origin from Guinea.his father rejected him bcz they use to say that if u r light skin then is u r white.sop he grow up in the street n singing...

  • if u search it with Google or any search Engine,u'll have many informations,

but as long as i can remember, Salif never grown up in the Street.

  • plus he must not be from guinea to sing in malinke.

it's like u said a french must only sing in french....

  • it was my mistake.confuse him n sekouba bambino...

  • cool, it's OK girl

  • don't mind me.the person that tell was so stupid.she told me that she was just kidding...but i did find out that he is from Mali...soooooooory

  • You can choose to sing in any language you want, no matter where you come from. Why does there have to be restrictions on variant forms of communication?

  • Preciosa canción que llega al corazón

  • bravo! nice song

  • Super Salif, tu es le meilleur des meilleurs, you are the best of the best, thank you for all the beautifull songs....

  • i love the beauty of the vocals.
