NIce vid bro.... I just got mine about 3 days ago. I needed a small caliber rifle. Happy i got mine, shoots good and reliable. Just a quick question, i think you mentioned it in the vid, but would you know if they make a larger cap magazine, other than 10 rounds? I bought a case of 500 round federal ammo. Went through 400 on the first day. Idk if it was the ammo, or what, but i had several jams. The rounds wouldn't feed all the way through. I have heard some complain of some issue with the mag
@refriedwrench21 They don't make larger capacity mags. The issue with the jamming is caused by the feed ramp built into the mag not being polished. If u have a dremmel tool u can polish the mag up in about 5 seconds, other wise a fine grit sand paper and a cloth with some polishing compound will fix that problem right up in about 5 minutes
is this rifle capable for hunting small foxes or just rabbits and such? im new to hunting and want to start with a reliable .22... how is this firearm for a person like me please reply with an answer
@nick33v Well you could definitely hunt fox with it, I might rather have a 223 over a 22 for that but I wouldn't hesitate going after a fox with a 22 if thats what I had. It is a reliable 22, the only thing I'd recommend when getting this rifle is to polish the feedramp on the magazine. For some reason the mags that come with them don't have polished feed ramps and the rifle runs alot smoother when they're polished
Shot mine for the first time yesterday. Had it sighted in so fast. With a stabilizer (terrible shot with free floating) I was easily making a single hole at just under 50 yards. However the clip blows ass. If you load the full 10 rounds in it the gun has problems getting started... that is the first bullet just gets stuck in the clip. Definitely buying different clips. :)
@orywilliam Yeah the mags that ship with the gun aren't finished very well, they need to have the feed ramps polished to work right. The mag that Savage sells seperately work great but cost $19.99
@NeverEnuffAmmo definitely buting different mags. So the extra ones work better? They looked to be the same... guess I'll find out next time I go shooting huh :) Thanks man
@NeverEnuffAmmo They look the same except they're better finished, the feed ramp is already polished and the finish on the outside of the mage is a better coating
i've likled tis gun i've had it for about 2 years now. but i never had the jamming problems only thing i dont like is the eject switch for the mag its hard to get with out having to fully turn the barrel and push it with my index finger
@poopis91 Yeah the jamming issue has to do with the mags and the feed ramp on the mag, I think its hit or miss depending on what mag ships with your rifle, I just polished the feed ramp on my mag and there was no issues with it jamming. I know what u mean about the mag release, it works but its kind of a pain, but all in all still a grwat rifle
I have one of these as well but i seem to not have as good of luck. I currently have about 300 rounds through it and still have alot of cycling problems and jams. I tried CCI as suggested but still have the same problem any ideas.
@steelhorse5778 Polish the feedramp on the mag (its on the mag instead of the chamber on this rifle), I do that to all my firearms especially the .22's ...... it makes a big difference
Would have to agree. bought this gun unboxed it loaded up the mag and it would not chamber a single round. After a full "take down" i figured out it was the mag ramp. The machined ramp was not "de-bured" and had an almost knife edge on the inside lip of the mag. catching in the soft lead everytime. They need to check this better. If im not mistaken with it being a rimfire if that action slams forward into it in the right position wont it set off the round?
@slyder2k6 Yeah the mags that come with the gun are poorly finished yet the spare factory mags that Savage sells work great and have fully polished feed ramps, not sure why that is.
@weedcrackice Well u could definitely use it for that, but I'd personally perfer to use something with a little morre power behind ot for coyote, something like .223. Not that this won't do the job but you'll run the risk of loosing your prey before they drop from this wound, I'd rather drop 'em a little quicker. This would be geared more towards smaller game like possum, coon, rabbit, squirrel, things like that that will drop with one shot.
good review, i feel the same way about the mag release, but the dam thing makes up for it in accuracy. had mine for about 15 years now, its a stevens model 62 pretty much the same rifle. i stuck a bipod and a decent scope on it too, my daughter calls it the sniper, lol. id like to see the disassembley vid some time. good shootin.
@slyder2k6 what man, I got a bipod at my local gunstore paid like 60 bux for it, kinda of a bummer cuz i saw the same bipod at walmart for around 30. so check them out. yer gonna have to tap a hole in your stock to secure the new hardware but its a breeze. its not made by savage but it works well. later & happy shootin.
The savage 64 is a Cooey model 64. Same design same gun as it was 60 years ago lol. Savage is an American company they just build the rim fires in Lakefeild Ontario Canada.
i got one of these for christmas this year and i have used it for about 200 rounds and everything you said i agree with, the mag and mag release are annoying, reloading sucks but really a good gun, but mine has a nice shinny mag, although it is getting scraped up pretty bad, yea just wanted to let you know about what im finding :) hope your lovin the gun
i have a savage 64 and it is the best shooting 22 i have ever shot great trigger and very light this is a great gun just to target shoot and shoot birds and other small game
i have this rifle is great... if u want to fit the scope properly, remove the original sight on the rifle that way u can put the scope closer to ur eyes cause the way u have it there it sits to far from u...
just got one for christmas lol. havent got a chance to shoot it yet, so was wondering if the bolt stayed open after the last shot. doesnt look like it from what ive seen, but i dont know for sure. thanks for the video :) and merry christmas
about to buy this for my dad for xmas, he loved shooting iron sights on my 10/22 then I put a bipod tapco intrafuse stock, millet red dot, and a tac light on it, he aint loving it as much.
@Duckss23 Nevr had an issue with mine jamming, but that may be because I polish the feed ramps on all my guns, just takes about 30 seconds and a dremel with a polishing bit. On these models the feed ramp is on the mag not the chamber
Ok I've shot a friends marlin and we've put them into chamber and they flip out normally by them selves so this shouldnt be much different? And I want a semi auto though cause this is gonna be a off and on thing shorts for squirrels and then Lr for range when we go just to mess around ,so I should be able to get away with it though right?
Ok so I've been looking at this gun for a while and on the vid u said u can't shoot shorts? Not even if u insert them manually? I'm just asking cause If I get it I'd need some shorts for certain situations but will be able to use Lr so can u shoot shorts manually is my question?
@rockintt125 Well u technically could stick a short in the chamber, but it might not extract because of it being fed without the extractor over the rim to extract. and thats going to be the same for any semi-auto .22 u buy, if u want something thats made to shoot both then u might want to look at a bolt action .22
These are underrated little rifles. I had one as a youngster (Lakefield) and Savage's rimfire division is in Lakefield, Canada. No coincidence there. About 3 years ago I bought a full stainless steel (receiver and barrel) and synthetic stock version of the gun with weaver mounts and put a Bushnell 1.5x4.5 scope on it. It is an accurate and reliable rifle and I like the feeling of nostalgia that it brings with a few extra added bells and whistles to boot. It is an excellent buy.
i just purchased this gun one complaint I have is i went to put my bipod on it and noticed theres no Sling studs! stupid me now i cant put my sling on it or use my bipod with it wouldnt of bought it if i had noticed it had no sling studs
I've had a lakefield 64 (same gun) for about 25 years, only problem was feeding.Cleand up the magazine where the shells feed out with a file, haven,t had any trouble with it since.have fired probably several thousand rounds through it.
@outinthecold1 Yeah polishing the feed ramp on the mags can make a big difference, never had any issues with mine but have heard from a couple people who had the same issue and that fixed the problem
@ThePassionforbikes I know exactly what ya mean, there are a couple of well known & liked gun models out there that I will never buy simply because I had a bad experience with them, so understand
@ThePassionforbikes Everybody makes lemons, just send it back to get repaired, thats the mark of a good company, that they fix their problems, if it comes back without being fixed and it's still a piece of shit, then sell it and get something else, and it shows that Savage isn't as good a company as they claim
I went to the Ruger Rimfire Challenge by us over the weekend and the gun was cleaned and oiled the night before. on the very 1st shot or should I say 1st charge or the rifle it stovepiped. sent it back to savage yesterday, now it's wait and see.
Have you ever heard of a constant failure to feed problem with the 64? I've had nothing but trouble with mine--just sent it back to savage for them to take a look at. when it does shoot it is great
@toddbunn I've got about 1,500 rounds through mine at this point and the only time I had an issue was after about 600 rounds with no cleaning whatsoever and it failed to feed, but after a spray of oil and a wipe with a rag it went right back to normal
Have you ever heard of a constant failure to feed problem with the 64? I've had nothing but trouble with mine--just sent it back to savage for them to take a look at.
@schmidtydotcom thats pretty normal. it takes quite a long time for the bolt to break in on this gun and sometimes it doesnt open far enough to cycle a round. other times the bullet just doesnt load right
@schmidtydotcom thats pretty normal. it takes quite a long time for the bolt to break in on this gun and sometimes it doesnt open far enough to cycle a round. other times the bullet just doesnt load right oh and one more thing, try using round tip bullets instead of hollow points. this gun wont take hollow points very well
I shoot a 80% success rate at 150 yards no problem using open sights with my Savage Mark ll , I hit 4x6'' piece of steel at 200 yards but I adjusted the sights the whole way forward. and went half mass on the sights
@poopis91 Well that's a longshot, it could if the conditions were right, it would certainly severly wound and more than likely scare off a coyote, and theres a good chance it's gonna die from the wound, but it's more than likely not gonna "drop" a coyote right there on the spot, although it is possible if u hit 'em in the right spot, just not likely.
Hello again. Well, after 8 months or so - With all that shooting -- Have you had to a disassembly complete take apart cleaning yet?? I watched the 3 videos on SFCGrazier channel regarding a complete take apart cleaning & it does indeed look like quite a bit of work & quite a lot of pieces. Have you done your cleaning yet? Thank You. Sincerely, JAMES.
i got mine in 2000 for $115 at walmart. i sold it last year and im trying ot get it back from the guy i sold it to. it jammed alot compared to my 10/22 but the mag was wore and these guns dont like to feed hollow points. O and you must be on crack because 10/22 mags cost $8 for 30rd eagle mags and go up to $25 for ruger made 25rd mags. they make 50rd mags to for around $22 but the ruger mags are said to work flawlessly. my savage 64 was more accurate than my 10/22 both with 3-9x32 scopes.
@SupremeAmerican I've taken it out to 100 yards and gotten 2 in groups with a benchrest and a good scope. I'm sure it can do better than that if I tried it.
@SupremeAmerican I paid $100 for mine brand new at Academy sports for their Black Friday special, it was a hell of a deal, but they are damn accurate rifles for the price, plus .22 is accurate anyway.
I've got the camo stock and I use no scope I don't know why but it's just alot more fun for me, I've shoot over 5000+ rounds with 2 mags. My mag tends to scrap up my thumb when I manually take the cartridge out of it and it tends to feel as if it is too high up into the chamber but it all works out really well.
@gearbox227 Well it is extremely accurate with iron sights so depending on what u plan on doing with it u may or may not want a scope for it. There are several good scopes out there, I suggest something not too pricey, after alll it is a .22 and not a sniper or big game rifle, try something like a Bushnell or Tasco, something simple and fairly inexpensive but that still works. The one I use is just a little 3 - 9 x 40 Tasco and it works great.
I am considering purchasing a model 64, but I have heard alot of complaints about the magazines wearing out faster than other box mag 22s. Now that you have had this thing for a while, what is your experience on this?
@thelurch987 Had no issues with the magazine, In fact I'm not sure how the magazine could "wear out" at all or even faster unless your talking about the mag spring loosing tension which can happen in any mag over time if u keep it loaded, but even then it takes a very long time for that to happen & I've haven't had a problem with mine as far as that goes. As for it wearing out in another way, I don't see how, it's a metal mag that locks into place via a notch cut into it just like any other mag.
@thelurch987 the last savage 64 i had brand new lasted about 500 rounds before the mag tooka dump and got chewed up behind the feed lips making it double feed every round
I just got one of these for Christmas to plink around and shoot squirrels and birds with and I love it!!!!! Shoots so smooth and has dead on accuracy!!!!!
@FireArmsResQ Yeah I like it better than the 10/22's I've shot. And I've never been a big fan of 22's made to look like bigger, tactical guns, I just think it's over kill, and unnessacary. I like my .22's to look like .22's ...... lol.
Yeah I froze my ass off at 4 in the morning for an hour in 40 degree weather wearing a t-shirt fleece, and shorts.
The Mossberg 702 Tactical was looking good but the damn fake charging handle threw me off so I might pick up a Makarov instead. The a 1911 when I get my tax money.
That fake charging handle to me is the equivalent of a Honda Civic with a Spoiler and Bumble Bee muffler.
@NeverEnuffAmmo Hello again Matt. Would you consider yourself an experienced, really good shot? I have a 10/22 & I really fire it well at 25 yards. I was considering this Savage as my next rifle purchase. I do not like the semi-auto & would prefer a bolt action - BUT if it REALLY REALLY was quite a bit better accuracy wise THAN the 10/22 then I would be sold on it & wait for the next Big 5 Sporting Goods sale. I'd appreciate your feedback on these items. Thx very much. Sincerely, JAMES.
@buzzclark I'm not going to be on "Top Shot" or anything but I'm good enuff. As for it being better than the 10/22 I can say is that for me I'm more accurate with this rifle that I am with a 10/22, not by alot or anything, but I was able to notice a difference. Now that may just be me, this particular rifle may just suite me better, but I feel confident in saying that if you went with the Savage you'd be happy with it. Now if your a die hard bolt action fan then that might still be your best bet
@crippycrippy Yeah it was a really good deal, u should have went up there bro, I was at the Academy close to the mall at 4 in the morning, u could've came and froze your ass off with me ...... lol
@k1111117 Thanks 4 watchin. My kids have been trained from a very young age to know how to act around firearms, I know its hard to tell from the vid, but they are well away from where I'm shooting at down range.
Hello. Would you say this Savage is more accurate than the Ruger 10/22? I have a 10/22 & for me it is really accurate. Big 5 Sporting Goods has sales ever now & then & has the Savage for $139.00. So, maybe next time I see it advertised I may pick one up. The only bummer is it is a really complicated dis/assembly. Lots of parts. Ruger is Simple. ThX. Sincerely, JAMES.
@buzzclark I've shot both, and honestly for the price I didn't expect the Savage to be better than the Ruger, and it really isn't better, but it is just as good. For me it was more accurate than the 10/22s I've shot, but it may just be a better fit for me personally. But overall the are on equal footing as far as accuracy, reliability & function, but the advantage for me goes to the Savage because of the price. But as I said thats just my opinion, the Ruger may be a better fit for u. Thanks!!
@ootdega The mossy 802's are great guns, I'm not as big a fan of the bolt action on my .22s but I've had plenty of time behind one, a friend of mine has one, and it's a hell of a shooter!!
great vid/reveiw bro, savage arms have been around for a long time, the founder spent time in Australia b4 heading to the US, i have the Mrk3 bolt .22 (semi's are banned here grrr) they have a great rep here, very accurate out of the box, good to 150-175 yards. FYI you can get "hot lip" plastic mags for them and i think there is a 25 rnd version for them too (i think not 100% sure) great vid best wishes and take care mate.
A disassembley vid would be greatly appreciated. I would like to learn from a vid from you instead of another guy with god knows how much experince.
Also Savage-Stevens in based in Westfield, Mass. They have a factory in Canada, It was the Lakefield Arms co. Which they bought out. Also all new Lakefield Arms are Savage-Stevens re-branded. The Canadian factory only makes .22 rifles [I think]. They also currently export 97% of there rifles to the US.
@rebelraider5 That's good to know, like I said in the vid, I'm not as familiar with the Savage history, or production as I am with other companies. I'll try and get a disassembly vid up soon.
@NeverEnuffAmmo Cool. Can't I can't wait for the disassembley vid. Another fun fact Arthur Savage the founder of Savage arms, most popular and widely used invention are radial tires, and second is the modern detachable box magazine.
@rebelraider5 You know way too much about firearms, u need to make your own vids and call it "TheFirarmsHistory" channel, bet you'd get alot of views!!
Killer review. I love Savage-Stevens, It's my favorite gun maker. I've been meaning to pick up one of these one from Dick's for $150. Your review was great as it gave me more of what to expect. Mine will be for target and teaching my brother how to shoot. My state [Pa] doesn't allow semi-auto for able bodies to hunt with. Thanks for the review man.
Cool review and a great little riffle! Might get that for my nephew for x-mas, seeing as he just got his hunting license and his dad's guns are just too big for him as he's only 14! ;-)
Great review man. I love it when people put shooting clips before the review. Makes the review more complete. Thats why I havent reviewed more of my guns. I just have to get out and get some shooting clips before I review them.
@FireArmsResQ Actually that was my mother in law's backyard, I live in a condo next to the golf course, if I lived in her house I might get to shoot a little more and get it on camera, most of the ranges around here have a "no pictures or recording" policies, which is why u don't see alot of shooting vids on my channel.
Really nice rifle, I actually like it. Very good review on the specifics as well. I have the same problem with the mag release and the crappy finish on my new mossy. I guess all of the cheaper model 22's have that rustic matt finish on the mags. LOL. I guess for the price we cant expect to get it all. hahaha. I certainly did expect to get it all, but hey. Thats ironic nonetheless. Great review
@awomansworld123 Hey thanks alot, appreciate u checkin it out. Yeah the mag is definitely easy to get used to, its just a small thing I wanted to mention in case it mattered to someone, but I honestly loved this rifle, I was highly impressed with it, it was alot of fun, and suprisingly accurate.
I have the same rifle. I've had it for 3 years, me and my 12 year old daughter love to go plinking with it. My daughter uses it more than I do. Thanks for the great video and I agree with everything that you said about it. Later---
Great review Matt. Saw the academy add mid last week, saw a .22 for 99, guess it was that one. Savage does make some great rifles. Looking to get my son one for Christmas, but wasnt gonna get up that early on Friday to deal with all the people. My first rifle was a Marlin .22, miss that rifle tremendously! lol. Think i was 12 when i got that. Oh, gave me a laugh looking to the right and seeing your 100th vid shoutouts vid. Wow, time flies! lol
@tim12161974 Yeah that's the one from Academy, the only reason I went was cause I was already up, cause all the girls went out for the midnight sales, and didn't get back until 3:30 in the morning, so I figured why not. It's a great rifle, I was really impressed with it, I was getting it for everyone to enjoy but after shooting it I want to keep it for myself lol. Wish I would have gotten more vid of the shooting, but oh well. Yeah time definitely flies, seems likeyesterday when we started.
@NeverEnuffAmmo LOL, i dont see how women do that, shop like that on Black Friday. Dont blame ya, if youre already up, why not... its a gun! lol. Its a Christmas gift to you from you! Yeah, and meant to say earlier that its great to see ya outside shooting, always good to see from ya. You should do more vids outside if possible, even reviews or just talkin. Driving was a good one! lol If i did that, id get in a wreck.
@tim12161974 Yeah I almost never do vids outside the house, mostly cause I never remember to bring the camera, and if I do the battery is about to go dead .... lol. Academy had alot of good deals last week, some of the guns were on sale for some really good prices, they had a Taurus cc 9mm for $210 bucks off, and the Rough Rider was $99 bucks, it was a great sale, I just wish would've had more money to spend, but I'm holding out for the gun show in 2 weeks.
@NeverEnuffAmmo lol, $99 is what I paid for my Heritage, and its the same one, you know, the one without the magnum cylinder that you harrassed me about!! Lol! She still isn't the same! Don't blame ya at all, hold out for the gun show!
great price! I keep hoping for that 10/22 used deal.. but never gonna happen. Wish companies would start making extended mags for the budget 22's. Keep up the great vids man
@Survivalonabudget Yeah I wish they made something bigger than a 10 rounder, but for $99 bucks I'm not gonna complain, especially givin how well this thing shot. Thanks 4 watchin bro!!
@xxFRANKENZTEINxx Thanks bro, it's a really nice rifle. For $99 bucks I wasn't gonna pass it up, but I was pleasently suprised that it was as good as it is, it is by far the nicest .22 rifle I've shot .
what... where do you live? they just let you shoot in your backyard like that? i wanna move there

@Duckss23 Nevr had an issue with mine jamming, but that may be because I polish the feed ramps on all my guns, just takes about 30 seconds and a dremel with a polishing bit. On these models the feed ramp is on the mag not the chamber
NeverEnuffAmmo 3 months ago
Thank you hoping to add one to the slowly starting collection!!
rockintt125 3 months ago
Ok I've shot a friends marlin and we've put them into chamber and they flip out normally by them selves so this shouldnt be much different? And I want a semi auto though cause this is gonna be a off and on thing shorts for squirrels and then Lr for range when we go just to mess around ,so I should be able to get away with it though right?
rockintt125 3 months ago
@rockintt125 Yeah like I said the only issue I see is u might have an issue with the shell ejecting properly but it'll fire fine
NeverEnuffAmmo 3 months ago
Ok so I've been looking at this gun for a while and on the vid u said u can't shoot shorts? Not even if u insert them manually? I'm just asking cause If I get it I'd need some shorts for certain situations but will be able to use Lr so can u shoot shorts manually is my question?
rockintt125 3 months ago
@rockintt125 Well u technically could stick a short in the chamber, but it might not extract because of it being fed without the extractor over the rim to extract. and thats going to be the same for any semi-auto .22 u buy, if u want something thats made to shoot both then u might want to look at a bolt action .22
NeverEnuffAmmo 3 months ago
These are underrated little rifles. I had one as a youngster (Lakefield) and Savage's rimfire division is in Lakefield, Canada. No coincidence there. About 3 years ago I bought a full stainless steel (receiver and barrel) and synthetic stock version of the gun with weaver mounts and put a Bushnell 1.5x4.5 scope on it. It is an accurate and reliable rifle and I like the feeling of nostalgia that it brings with a few extra added bells and whistles to boot. It is an excellent buy.

i just purchased this gun one complaint I have is i went to put my bipod on it and noticed theres no Sling studs! stupid me now i cant put my sling on it or use my bipod with it wouldnt of bought it if i had noticed it had no sling studs
gardbee 5 months ago
@gardbee Most people just drill a pilot hole in the stock and use a screw in sling swivel.
NeverEnuffAmmo 5 months ago
I've had a lakefield 64 (same gun) for about 25 years, only problem was feeding.Cleand up the magazine where the shells feed out with a file, haven,t had any trouble with it since.have fired probably several thousand rounds through it.
outinthecold1 5 months ago
@outinthecold1 Yeah polishing the feed ramp on the mags can make a big difference, never had any issues with mine but have heard from a couple people who had the same issue and that fixed the problem
NeverEnuffAmmo 5 months ago
$9 for a 10/22 25 round mag or you can get a Ruger 25 round mag for $30 that will last the life of your gun
fatass5036 6 months ago
@ThePassionforbikes I know exactly what ya mean, there are a couple of well known & liked gun models out there that I will never buy simply because I had a bad experience with them, so understand
NeverEnuffAmmo 6 months ago
@ThePassionforbikes Everybody makes lemons, just send it back to get repaired, thats the mark of a good company, that they fix their problems, if it comes back without being fixed and it's still a piece of shit, then sell it and get something else, and it shows that Savage isn't as good a company as they claim
NeverEnuffAmmo 6 months ago
I went to the Ruger Rimfire Challenge by us over the weekend and the gun was cleaned and oiled the night before. on the very 1st shot or should I say 1st charge or the rifle it stovepiped. sent it back to savage yesterday, now it's wait and see.
toddbunn 6 months ago
@toddbunn Well every manufacturer has some issues, the important thing is that they take care of the issue for u
NeverEnuffAmmo 6 months ago
Have you ever heard of a constant failure to feed problem with the 64? I've had nothing but trouble with mine--just sent it back to savage for them to take a look at. when it does shoot it is great
toddbunn 6 months ago
@toddbunn I've got about 1,500 rounds through mine at this point and the only time I had an issue was after about 600 rounds with no cleaning whatsoever and it failed to feed, but after a spray of oil and a wipe with a rag it went right back to normal

@schmidtydotcom thats pretty normal. it takes quite a long time for the bolt to break in on this gun and sometimes it doesnt open far enough to cycle a round. other times the bullet just doesnt load right oh and one more thing, try using round tip bullets instead of hollow points. this gun wont take hollow points very well
Hunterman841 6 months ago
I shoot a 80% success rate at 150 yards no problem using open sights with my Savage Mark ll , I hit 4x6'' piece of steel at 200 yards but I adjusted the sights the whole way forward. and went half mass on the sights

could this take down a coyote?
poopis91 7 months ago
@poopis91 Well that's a longshot, it could if the conditions were right, it would certainly severly wound and more than likely scare off a coyote, and theres a good chance it's gonna die from the wound, but it's more than likely not gonna "drop" a coyote right there on the spot, although it is possible if u hit 'em in the right spot, just not likely.
NeverEnuffAmmo 7 months ago
@NeverEnuffAmmo and hollow-points would help...
caseyreavis 6 months ago
@poopis91 Well, with 10 well placed rounds it should go down, but good luck hitting it after the first shot - it's gonna run fast!

Hello again. Well, after 8 months or so - With all that shooting -- Have you had to a disassembly complete take apart cleaning yet?? Thank You. Sincerely, JAMES.
buzzclark 7 months ago
@buzzclark I've yet to completely strip down the rifle, at some point I'll do a complete tear down but for now it hasn't been nessecary
NeverEnuffAmmo 7 months ago
i got mine in 2000 for $115 at walmart. i sold it last year and im trying ot get it back from the guy i sold it to. it jammed alot compared to my 10/22 but the mag was wore and these guns dont like to feed hollow points.

"Savage Arms" Used to be Sears Roebuck
dragula876142 10 months ago
@gearbox227 Well it is extremely accurate with iron sights so depending on what u plan on doing with it u may or may not want a scope for it. There are several good scopes out there, I suggest something not too pricey, after alll it is a .22 and not a sniper or big game rifle, try something like a Bushnell or Tasco, something simple and fairly inexpensive but that still works. The one I use is just a little 3 - 9 x 40 Tasco and it works great.
NeverEnuffAmmo 11 months ago
I am considering purchasing a model 64, but I have heard alot of complaints about the magazines wearing out faster than other box mag 22s. Now that you have had this thing for a while, what is your experience on this?
thelurch987 11 months ago
@thelurch987 Had no issues with the magazine, In fact I'm not sure how the magazine could "wear out" at all or even faster unless your talking about the mag spring loosing tension which can happen in any mag over time if u keep it loaded, but even then it takes a very long time for that to happen & I've haven't had a problem with mine as far as that goes. As for it wearing out in another way, I don't see how, it's a metal mag that locks into place via a notch cut into it just like any other mag.
NeverEnuffAmmo 11 months ago
@thelurch987 the last savage 64 i had brand new lasted about 500 rounds before the mag tooka dump and got chewed up behind the feed lips making it double feed every round

I didn't catch you saying this is your black friday purchase in this review. Very important to say that in the beginning =P
I think this is a better looking gun then the 10/22 because it looks like a gun and not a bb gun.
Of course the 10/22 has a lot of cosmetic kits but if thats the case I rather get one that was built to looks like an AR to begin with like the 15-22.
FireArmsResQ 1 year ago
@FireArmsResQ Yeah I like it better than the 10/22's I've shot. And I've never been a big fan of 22's made to look like bigger, tactical guns, I just think it's over kill, and unnessacary. I like my .22's to look like .22's ...... lol.

NeverEnuffAmmo 1 year ago
@NeverEnuffAmmo Hello again Matt. Would you consider yourself an experienced, really good shot? I have a 10/22 & I really fire it well at 25 yards. I was considering this Savage as my next rifle purchase. I do not like the semi-auto & would prefer a bolt action - BUT if it REALLY REALLY was quite a bit better accuracy wise THAN the 10/22 then I would be sold on it & wait for the next Big 5 Sporting Goods sale. I'd appreciate your feedback on these items. Thx very much. Sincerely, JAMES.
buzzclark 1 year ago
@buzzclark I'm not going to be on "Top Shot" or anything but I'm good enuff. As for it being better than the 10/22 I can say is that for me I'm more accurate with this rifle that I am with a 10/22, not by alot or anything, but I was able to notice a difference. Now that may just be me, this particular rifle may just suite me better, but I feel confident in saying that if you went with the Savage you'd be happy with it. Now if your a die hard bolt action fan then that might still be your best bet

ThX. Sincerely, JAMES.
buzzclark 1 year ago
@buzzclark I've shot both, and honestly for the price I didn't expect the Savage to be better than the Ruger, and it really isn't better, but it is just as good. For me it was more accurate than the 10/22s I've shot, but it may just be a better fit for me personally. But overall the are on equal footing as far as accuracy, reliability & function, but the advantage for me goes to the Savage because of the price. But as I said thats just my opinion, the Ruger may be a better fit for u. Thanks!!

great vid/reveiw bro, savage arms have been around for a long time, the founder spent time in Australia b4 heading to the US, i have the Mrk3 bolt .22 (semi's are banned here grrr) they have a great rep here, very accurate out of the box, good to 150-175 yards. FYI you can get "hot lip" plastic mags for them and i think there is a 25 rnd version for them too (i think not 100% sure) great vid best wishes and take care mate.

Wow, time flies! lol
tim12161974 1 year ago
@tim12161974 Yeah that's the one from Academy, the only reason I went was cause I was already up, cause all the girls went out for the midnight sales, and didn't get back until 3:30 in the morning, so I figured why not. It's a great rifle, I was really impressed with it, I was getting it for everyone to enjoy but after shooting it I want to keep it for myself lol.
