And that's one of my favorite Arnold quotes to. If you want no bullshit then consider the following facts carefully. Mentzer in 1979 at 210 pounds (his first Olympia) got a perfect 300 score (his third) and placed second. In 1980 he was more ripped, better tanned, with better presentation and was 225 pounds (same as Arnold despite being 5.5" shorter). What did he get in Sydney? 284 points and 5th place.
Mentzer was hurting Weider, who run the IFBB, who host the Mr Olympia, commercially, placing him 2nd for the 2nd year in a row might not
mentzer indeed had a very powerful looking physique, and to think he acheived it by just training for 20 minutes once every 5 days is phenominal considering the volume and duration arnie trained for. I watched some of his lectures, he was also a really intelligent guy.
have discouraged him enough to quit competing, so a ridiculous placing like 5th might (and did). Arnold was allowed to break IFBB regarding the time of his entry, and also broke rules during the contest, but got away with it. Whether he was Arnold or not, rules are meant to be objective - not subjective - and apply to all. The Weiders turned a blind eye. What does that tell you?
There is no dispute over Arnold 73 or 74 would have walked away with the Olympia in 1980 (or any other year IMO), the only man close to Arnold prime was Sergio 72. That was the sad part of the whole thing in Sydney, objective Arnold fans were not impressed with his "win" and he damaged his reputation - if had only taken an extra 3 or 4 months there would have been no question marks, he would clearly have won, fairly. And the same the next year, with Franco, who should have been 5th (at best).

You also forgot that todays bodybuilders benefit from much more potent drugs and know alot more about diet and training, have better equip., ect. then in Arnolds days. If Arnold was 30(ish) years old now, he could look like a freak just like todays bodybuilders, and he would also be the champ again. He is the best ever! (also don't forget he is alot taller than alot of todays champions, which makes him even more impressive.)

You know my 2 idols are Michael Jordan and Arnold. What both men had in common are they were classic examples of being supremely physically gifted overachievers. In other words they would have been the best or close to it with little effort. Instead they took their gift and maximized it to the absolute fullest potential. That is why they are LEGENDS and cultural icons and not just great athletes. The mental toughness coupled with incredible genetics and physical gifts is why they are mythical.

If you want no bullshit then consider the following facts carefully. Mentzer in 1979 at 210 pounds (his first Olympia) got a perfect 300 score (his third) and placed second. In 1980 he was more ripped, better tanned, with better presentation and was 225 pounds (same as Arnold despite being 5.5" shorter). What did he get in Sydney? 284 points and 5th place.
Mentzer was hurting Weider, who run the IFBB, who host the Mr Olympia, commercially, placing him 2nd for the 2nd year in a row might not

mentzer indeed had a very powerful looking physique, and to think he acheived it by just training for 20 minutes once every 5 days is phenominal considering the volume and duration arnie trained for. I watched some of his lectures, he was also a really intelligent guy.

All the nonsense about Arnold being 85 or 90% of his best shape - you are an Arnold fan, look at Arnold 73 or 74 v 1980, he is a shadow of his former self, even from 75 he is way down in size, pecs and biceps very good but that was all. If you do not beleive it was fixed then I can e-mail you two sets of judging score sheets that are full of anomalies. And all of the judges were friends of Arnolds

and one judge was replaced at short notice before the show, with a young guy who was a friend of Arnolds. Paul Graham, the promoter, was a long time friend of Arnold. Arnold was allowed to break IFBB regarding the time of his entry, and also broke rules during the contest, but got away with it. Whether he was Arnold or not, rules are meant to be objective - not subjective - and apply to all. The Weiders turned a blind eye. What does that tell you?

There is no dispute over Arnold 73 or 74 would have walked away with the Olympia in 1980 (or any other year IMO), the only man close to Arnold prime was Sergio 72. That was the sad part of the whole thing in Sydney, objective Arnold fans were not impressed with his "win" and he damaged his reputation - if had only taken an extra 3 or 4 months there would have been no question marks, he would clearly have won, fairly. And the same the next year, with Franco, who should have been 5th (at best).

Disregarding previous results n all that, if u just look at the pictures from that mr O, mentzer isnt all that impressive, and standing side by side with arnold he looks smaller and less cut with a bloated looking stomach. Arnold was little more than pecs and biceps, and other than those two bodyparts Mentzer was better in forearms, triceps, delts, back and legs. Mike had more signature poses than any competitor that day and was widely acclaimed as having one of the best routines. Mr Olympia is about the best physique on the day - not a name, a reputation, or friends judging. I met them both in 1981.Try commenting on something you know about kid.

Arnold had slender thighs, terrible forearms, small triceps, and flat back. Mike's posing confidence? His poses were completely original and among the best of all time. Arnold neglected to do some of the compulsory poses in this contest, in fear that he missing too many bodyparts. Your assumptions are ridiculous.

Mentzer acheived 3 perfect 300-scores in top level competition, and had a greater understanding of exercise & stress physiology than anyone before - or since. Alas, Arnold was certainly not numero uno on October 4th 1980 - 73 & 74, yes, without a doubt.
